분야별 책표지디자인의 시각적 요소 분석을 통한 시각적 특징

인터넷을 중심으로 다양한 커뮤니케이션 미디어가 등장하면서 책표지는 더욱 고급화되고 다양한 디자인이 늘어나고 있다. 책표지디자인을 보고 책의 내용을 상상하고 구매하게 되는 중요한 역할을 한다. 그러므로 책표지디자인의 다양한 디자인과 기법이 독자들의 시선을 끌어야 하며 분야별로 책의 내용을 잘 표현한 디자인이 되어야 한다. 본 연구는 교보문고 성인도서 분야 중 판매량이 높은 소설, 에세이, 인문분야와 아동분야로 4개의 분야로 한다. 분야별로 최근 3년간 교보문고의 베스트셀러1위부터 5위까지의 도서 중 중복되는 도서를 제외한 각 분야별 10권씩을 분석대상으로 하고 책표지디자인의 시각적 요소인 타이포그래피, 이미지, 색채 분석을 통해 분야별 책표지디자인의 시각적 특징을 알아보았다. 분석결과를 토대로 향후 분야별 책표지디자인을 하는데 있어서 바람직한 디자인 방향을 설정하는데 도움이 되고자 한다. 소설분야에서는 감성적인 표현을 위해 캘리그라피가 주로 사용되었다. 호기심과 감성을 자극하는 일러스트레이션이 주로 사용되었으며, 친근감과 편안함을 주는 내츄럴한 색채가 사용되어 감성적으로 표현되었다. 이를 통해, 감성적이고 호기심을 자극하고 상상력을 증폭시킬 수 있는 시각적 특징이 있음을 알 수 있었다. 에세이분야에서는 부드럽고 섬세함이 느껴지는 명조체와 캘리그라피가 주로 사용되었고, 일러스트레이션을 통해 독자에게 편안함과 감동을 주었으며, 우아하고 은은한 색채를 사용하여 안정되고 잔잔한 이미지를 표현하였다. 편안하고 부드럽고 감성적인 시각적 디자인 특징이 있었다. 인문분야에서도 명조체를 사용하여 가독성과 신뢰성을 높였으며 컴퓨터그래픽 사용을 통해 시각적 정보 전달에 인지도를 높였으며, 다이나믹한 색채를 통해 메시지가 강하게 표현되었다. 개성 있고 강하고 신뢰성을 고려한 시각적 특징이 있었다. 아동분야에서는 장식체를 사용하고, 일러스트레이션과 귀여운 색채를 통해 독자의 호기심을 자극하여 아동틱하고 사랑스러운 느낌의 시각적 디자인 특징이 있었다. 이러한 결과를 통해 책표지디자인은 분야별로 다른 시각적 특징을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 디자이너는 분야별 책표지디자인의 시각적 특징을 고려하여 디자인 방향을 세워 디자인 하는 것이 바람직하며 다양한 변화와 응용을 통해 보다 차별화된 디자인으로 발전시켜 나가야 할 것이다. As various communication media based on the Internet appear, books become more luxurious and various designs are increasing. It can be imagined the contents from the book cover design. Various designs and techniques should be used to draw reader``s attention and proceed with succeeding researches and concepts in compliance with book``s characteristics should be designed. This study is largely divided into four fields in order to examine the visual characteristics of book cover design by field. The ranging top 1 to top 5 best sellers of Kyobo Book Center for the recent 3 years are selected for the objects of this research to understand design concept after analysis of typography, image and color as visual elements of a book cover design. It is going to help establish a desirable design direction to design a book cove based on the analysis results from the analysis of the visual characteristics of the current book cover design. The novel field mainly uses calligraphy and natural colors for emotional expressions. In the essay fields, the readable Myeongjo font and calligraphy is often used and reliability is rendered to readers through illustration and ideas and emotions are expressed by using subtle colors. In the field of liberal arts, the Myeongjo font is used to raise readability and messages are transferred through computer graphic and individual feelings are expressed through dynamic colors. In the children field, decorative fonts are used and reader``s interest is stimulated through illustrations and cute colors. It could be resulted that there are different visual characteristics in different fields. The book cover designer should be fully aware of book``s characters and contents by field and provide readers with visible beauty and pleasure. It is desirable to design it after planning of a design concept in compliance with a book content. It should be developed with more differentiated types and formative characteristics through various changes and applications.
