We investigate the effects of the immune function (HI titer) in broilers fed diets containing Hermetia illucens (H. illucens) peptide extract over a 40-day period. Twenty-four broiler chicks (Arbor Acres, 1 d old) were divided into four groups and fed different diets (control, 0.1%, 0.5%, and 1% H. illucens peptide extract). To evaluate HI titer, all broilers were vaccinated with H9H2 vaccine subcutaneously on the lateral thorax, according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Similar HI titer was observed with 1% H. illucens peptide extract treatment compared to the control after 40 days (p>0.01). Groups fed 0.5% H. illucens peptide extract demonstrated the most effective immune effects (p<0.01), followed by groups fed 0.1% H. illucens peptide extract. In conclusion, using 0.1% or 0.5% H. illucens peptide extract before or after vaccination improved HI titer immune function in broilers.
열가소성 폐플라스틱 연소 보일러용 펠렛 연료의 용융특성 실험

Experiments were performed to investigate the melting characteristics of pellet fuel made of LDPE and PP for a waste plastic firing boiler. Pellet fuel in a burner goes through conduction, convection and radiation transferred from flame in a furnace, and complex thermo/chemical processes. To figure out effects of ambient temperature and size of pellet on melting time pellets with a diameter from 5 ㎜ to 40 ㎜ were made to contact high temperature flue gas generated by a LNG firing pilot burner. Though melting processes of plastics include complicated heat transfer in a burner, parameters are limited to flue gas temperature and size for the simplicity in this study. From the results, melting times of LDPE and PP with a diameter of 5㎜ are 63 and 62 sees respectively at 600 ℃ while 677 and 583 sees respectively for a diameter of 40 ㎜. At 900℃, melting times of LDPE and PP with a diameter of 5㎜ are 21 and 24 sees respectively while 408 and 337 sees respectively for a diameter of 40 ㎜. It is found that melting time of LDPE is longer than that of PP, and melting times of both in general increase with diameter of pellets. It is thought melting is dependent mostly on melting temperature of plastic. It is expected melting times obtained from the study might be taken into account in designing a pellet firing burner for a boiler

This paper deals with the analysis of AC copper loss in a high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor used in an air compressor of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. In order to drive the motor at high speed, a high frequency input current is required, which causes large AC loss due to skin effect and proximity effect to the motor winding. For the analysis of AC copper loss, it is very time consuming to analyze 3D-FEM by modeling the number of turns and strands of the motor coil. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a simple analysis method of AC copper loss prediction by dividing the active part winding loss and the end winding loss with the 2D-FEM. The effect of AC copper loss according to the number of strands was verified through the 2D-FEM and experiments by evaluating the actual motor applied to an air compressor.

We aimed to evaluate antithrombotic efficacy of Protaetia brevitarsis extract during 21 days. Rats (SPF rat, weight 240~260 g) were divided into 16 groups (5 rats per group), they were: control group and Protaetia brevitarsis extract groups with dose of 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2.5, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 200, 250, 500, 750, 1,000 mg/kg kg of body weight. Thromboplastin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPPT) as antithrombotic efficacy were tested in this animal experiment (at 7, 14 and 21 days). Overall, the admistration dose of Protaetia brevitarsis extract over 50 mg/kg at 7, 14 and 21 days for PT and over 25 mg/kg at 7, 14 and 21 days for aPPT tented to be longer than that of other groups. In addition, the optimal admistration doses of Protaetia brevitarsis extract to improves antithrombotic efficacy were 75, 100, 200 and 250 mg/kg at 7, 14 and 21 days for PT (p<0.05) and 50 and 100 mg/kg at 7 days, 75 mg/kg at 14 days, or 50, 100, 200 and 250 mg/kg at 21 days for aPPT (p<0.05). It can be concluded that Protaetia brevitarsis extract at optimal levels have antithrombotic efficacy.

This study was conducted to evaluate the growth performance of broilers fed different levels of Hermetia illucens powder. A total of 400 broiler chicks (1-day old Arbor Acres) were fed commercial diets containing H. illucens powder at 0%, 0.1%, 0.5%, and 1% with four replicates (25 chicks per replicate), for 35 days. Weight gain in broilers fed diets containing different levels of H. illucens powder increased significantly at 28 and 35 days, compared with that of the control (p<0.05). However, feed intake and mortality showed no differences among the treatments as a function of time. At 21, 28, and 35 days, broilers fed different levels of H. illucens powder had lower feed conversion rates (p<0.05) than their counterparts fed the control diet. In conclusion, 0.5% H. illucens powder is the optimal level for improved weight gain and feed conversion.

Background: During the past several decades, advances in burn treatment, including the improvement in fluid ressusitation, the evolvement of antibiotics, and the early excision of the wound, have increased the survival rate of burn patients. How ever sepsis and organ dysfunction are major causes of death after burn trauma. This study focused on finding the demography of burn mortality and the cause of death and on characterizing the time course of severe burn injury. Method: From January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2002, 543 patients were treated at the Burn Unit of General Surgery, Han Gang Sacred Heart Hospital after burn trauma. Among them, 112 patients expired. We reviewed their medical records and analyzed their demography, the cause of death, and the survival period, retrospectively. Results: Among the 112 patient, the cases of death are most common in the male patients aged 40 to 49. The most common cause of burn was flame (94.6%). They expired from sepsis (63.39%), pulmonary complication (13.39%), burn shock (13.39%) and acute renal failure (6.25%). Unill 72 hours after the burn injury, burn shock was the most common cause of death, between the 3rd day and the 7th day, pulmonary complications were the most common cause and after the 7th day, sepsis was. Conclusions: Even nowadays, many burn patients expire from burn shock and sepsis. Rapid transportation to a specialized burn center, judicious fluid ressusitation, wound care for wound healing, and prophylaxis of secondary infection can save more massive-burn victims.

Purpose: Monoclonal antibody Ki-67 has been employed to evaluate the growth fraction of various tumors. The purpose of this study is to determin the prognostic value of the Ki-67 index for colorectal cancer. Methods: The Ki-67 index was investigated by counting the immunohistochemically stained cells. We described this as the permillage. We reviewed the test results of 36 colorectal cancer patients and we compared the Ki-67 index with other clinical factors. Results: There was no correlation between the Ki-67 index and the other established risk factors, and only the number of invaded lymph nodes and their degree of differentiation were related with the Ki-67 index. Conclusion: The Ki-67 index is an important marker of the growth fraction of tumor. The pattern of tumor growth is determined not only by the growth fraction, so the discovery of other parameters that can reflect tumor growth and the Ki-67 index can help the patients with respect to their prognosis & treatment.
