Firefighters are always exposed to physically and mentally stressful environments resulting in three times higher death rate than any other occupations. Physiological signal monitoring for firefighters is critical and essential to protect firefighters’ lives because more than half of deaths are attributed to stress or overexertion including heart attacks, cerebrovascular events (stroke) or other types of cardio-respiratory system collapse. In current study, we have demonstrated that PVDF wearable sensor can monitor respiration rate successfully. The principle is based on the piezoelectric sensing mechanism to detect the periodical deformations on the chest wall of human body during respirations. For a fabricated sensor involving a 28um thick PVDF film, measured to respiration rate by making the simulator. Respiration simulator at 10 to 90 bpm can make respiration rate. Small changes in the electrical signal output to be punched in the PVDF film. As a result, changes in the length of 1mm were possible to output an electrical signal. PVDF film banding worn on the human body due to aerobic exercise respiration rate was measured. As a whole, this study has developed a PVDF based sensor which was capable of monitoring the respiration rate with high sensitivity. Other distinctive features include its small size, light weight, ease of use and low cost.
This study was performed to assess the financial performance of medical institutions and examine the affecting factors in Taegu metropolitan and Kyungpook province. The major results are as follows ; The liability to total assets was significantly different according to the ownership type of medical institution. It was the highest in the case of juridical person having a special status. The total assets turnover and value added to total assets were significantly different according to the type of medical institution, period of establishment, and ownership type of medical institution. They were higher in the tertiary medical institution, in private hospital and university hospital, and they were increased with establishment period of medical institution. The growth rate of patient revenues were significantly different according to the type of medical institution, period of establishment, and the growth rate of adjusted inpatient days were significantly different by period of establishment. The return on assets and net profit to gross revenues were the highest in private hospital. Private hospital went into the black, but other hospitals went into the red figures. According to the multiple regression analysis for the net profit to gross revenues, ownership type, period of establishment, and management strategy of medical institution were significant. It was higher in private hospital and medical institution with prospector management strategy, and it was increased with establishment period of medical institution. In multiple logistic regression analysis for the status of financial performance in medical institution, period of establishment, management strategy of medical institution were significant. It was better in medical institution with prospector management strategy and longer period of establishment.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the state of computer use, VDT related symptoms and its related factors in adolescents. Methods : A questionnaire survey was performed for 921 students in 4 (1 boys and 1 girls middle and high school) schools in a city from April 23 to April 28, 2001. The students who had musculoskeletal symptoms due to previous injury or disease and who submitted incomplete Questionnaire were excluded. The final study subjects were 826 students. Degree of VDT related symptoms was measured with Likert 5 (0 to 4) scales. Results : Average score of subjective symptom for VDT syndrome was 1.08 for musculoskeletal symptoms, 0.89 for eye-related symptoms, 0.80 for psychosomatic symptoms, 0.78 for psychological symptoms, and 0.54 for skin-related symptoms. In multiple regression analysis, eye-related symptom score was related with the duration of computer use at one time (p<0.05) and illumination (p<0.01). Psychologic symptom score was related with sex (p<0.01). degree of noise (p<0.01), and distance between monitor and eyes (p<0.05). Psycosomatic symptom score was related with duration of computer use at one time (p<0.05), experience of staying up all night (p<0.05), and degree of noise (p<0.01). Musculoskeletal symptom score was significantly higher in high school than in middle school students (p<0.05), and it was related with duration of computer use at one time (p<0.05), experience of staying up all night (p<0.01), illumination(p<0.05), height of desks and chairs(p<0.01), and distance between monitor and eyes(p<0.05). Skin-related symptom score was related with experience of staying up all night (p<0.01), computer use after 10pm at night (p<0.05), and degree of noise (p<0.01). Conclusions : These findings suggest that a systematic health education for proper use of computer is necessary for prevention of VDT syndrome in adolescents.
