Machinble Ceramics have some excellent properties as the material for the mechanical components. It is, however, very diffcult to grind ceramics with high efficiency because of their high strength, hardness and brittleness. Lapping used diamond slurry and lapping by in-process electrolytic dressing is developed to solve this problem. On this paper, a comparative study of processing ability of lapping used diamond slurry and lapping by in-process electrolytic dressing.

In this study, the analysis of micro groove machining characteristics of Si₃N₄-hBN composites are performed to optimum micro machining conditions for related applications. As a first step, material properties of the Si₃N₄-hBN composites are invested. Then, a set of micro groove machining experiments are performed to investigate the micro groove machining characteristics with variable h-BN contents and different conditions.

Ceramics are very difficult-to-cut materials because of its high strength and hardness. Their machining mechanism is characterized by cracking and brittle fracture. In this paper, to give good machinebility to the ceramics, BN powders are added to Si₃N₄ by volume of 20, 25 and 30%. And the machiniability of the produced ceramics are tested using micro drilling system. Through required experimental works, it is shown that the micro drilling machinability is varied along with the volumetric percentage of BN powders. Also, it is verified that the obtained results can be used to develop new machinable ceramics of good material properties and machinability.
