This study utilized a semantic network analysis for Korean and Japan’s major newspaper article headlines concerning ‘Korean Wave’. The analysis of unit were Chosunilbo, Dong-A Ilbo for Korea, Yomiuri Shimbun, Asahi Shimbun for Japan. First, this study found there is significant difference of emphasized messages/meanings in newspaper article headlines between Korea and Japan. Second, while there were remarkable words that highlight economic/industrial implications on the Korean’s major newspapers, relatively, social/cultural implications for Japan’s. Third, there were particular frames formed on each country. In the results of Korea, (1) economic/industrial impact frame from ‘Korean Wave’, (2) globalization frame of the ‘Korean Wave’ fandom, (3) diversification frame of the Korean contents product, were shown. By contrast, (1) cultural exchange frame with popularity of ‘Korean Wave’ contents, (2) frame by the Korean drama as a medium for invigorating tourism industry/reviving region in Japan, (3) ‘Korean Wave’ star/fandom frame, were shown in the results of Japan. On the perspective of cross-cultural communication, the limitations of both countries’ coverage on ‘Korean Wave’ were revealed in the results. Therefore, it is required to seek ways to improve an understanding of each country’s cultural/social context and to remove obstacles which cause misunderstanding/gap between both countries.
