This article investigates how direct quotations are used in the editorials of two Korean newspapers, drawing on Bakhtin's notion of dialogicality. Recent research on the discourse functions of quotations has emphasized their genre-specificity, but newspaper editorials have yet to be analyzed. This study shows that direct quotations are recontextualized in the editorials to create textuality and to produce semantic and pragmatic transformations of the quotes that voice the ideology of each newspaper. With respect to textuality, it is suggested that direct quotations function to establish sentence/discourse topics (Ochs & Schieffelin 1976), and to create units for different kinds of rhetorical structure (Mann & Thompson 1988). The semantic and pragmatic transformations of quotations include the editorialist's subjective characterizations of the speech verbs, as well as interpretations, summaries, and paraphrases/repetitions, and generalization of the source of the quotes. A clearer picture of the ideological functions of the direct quotations is provided by quantitative analyses of the correlation between the direct quotes and discourse structure of editorials (Bolivar 1994), and of the positive/negative evaluation of the source of the quotes or a third party (van Dijk 2000). The paper concludes with a summary of the analysis and some theoretical implications related to genre, coherence, and 'participant framework' (Coffman 1981).

In this paper, we design UART using ODC computation that is one of methods for Clock Gating applicable at the register transfer level(RTL). The ODC computation Method is began at point that estimate the value considering Don’t Care Conditions from output of datapath to registers using elk in system. Using modified this value, we reduce consumption power due to controlling clock that was supplied at registers. In Experimental results, ODC computation Method reduce power reductions of around 30%.

This article investigates how the President Mu-Hyun Rho employes linguistic involvement strategies in his political speeches to elicit the support and engagement of the people. After critically reviewing some definitions of involvement suggested in the literature, the analysis redefines the term from ethnographic perspective, and treats Rho's involvement strategies at both macro and micro levels. At the macro level, it is shown that new genres such as "letters to the people" initially appeared only in Rho's speeches. At the micro level, it is shown that discourse strategies in his speeches, including "sharing of language", "dialogue and empathy/identification with the people", "shifts of identity", and "personalization of discourse", differ significantly from those of his predecessors in kind and frequency. This paper concludes with some theoretical implications related to the definition of involvement, the link between involvement and ideology, and discourse and social change (especially, democratization and conversationalization of discourse).

This article investigates how the ideology of 'Cwucheysasang' is linguistically represented in the editorials of North Korean newspapers. Within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis, this article examines topics, key values, and discourse structure at the macro-level, as well as reference to and predications about participants, assertive speech acts, deontic modality, and emphasis on national identity at the micro-level. This study reveals that, even though the editorials partially satisfy the basic requirements of the genre/register, there are some noticeable characteristics at each level. It also argues that those linguistic characteristics can be seen as factors which contribute to the effective instillation and socialization of the dominant ideology of North Korea, thereby ultimately strengthening the hegemony of the government.
