Although some pharmacological studies of Korean cultivated wild ginseng, such as antioxidant and anticancer effects have been described, there have been no studies on the expression of tumor suppressor gene p53. Colon cancer chemotherapy in vivo improved in case with high p53 expression in the tumor tissue. The restoration of p53 levels could be a potential strategy to increase chemoresponsiveness. This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of cisplatin(CDDP), 5-fluorouracil(5-FU), and/or extract of tissue cultured mountain ginseng(CBN) against human colon carcinoma HCT-116 cells by tumor suppressor gene p53 expression. The expression of p53 was confirmed by the results of Western blotting assays after treatment of the cells with CDDP, 5-FU, and/or CBN. The present findings demonstrated that CBN caused upregulation of p53 expression and increased the susceptibility of colon cancer cells by CDDP, 5-FU. These results suggest that the chemotherapeutic effect of CDDP or 5-FU on colon cancer can be enhanced by CBN.

Objectives: This study aims to understand the effects of job stress and emotional labor on perceptive health status of dental hygienist's. And provide basic data by for establishing the plan for the effective management of job stress and emotional labor and the promotion of health. Methods: Self-evaluation questionnaires were surveyed for 441 dental hygienist's who agreed to participate in the survey, using questionnaires used in the preceding study were modified and complemented. We analyzed the data with frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, chi-square test와 ANOVA, Spearman correlation coefficient by using IBM SPSS Statistics 21.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). The significance level for significance was set at 0.05. Results: health status were job stress, emotional labor significant negative correlation. The factors having significant effects on health problem were physical health status, the job culture of job stress, lack of job autonomy, organizational instability, and workplace culture. In addition, social health status was affected by emotional expressionism, relationship conflict, organizational instability, organizational system, and workplace culture. Conclusion: Recognizing the importance of the management of job stress and emotional labor in the working environment to dental clinic and hospital managers and managerial dental hygienists, a dental hygienist health promotion intervention program is needed to mitigate and cope with job stress and emotional labor.

Green tea is one of the most popular beverage consumed by over two thirds of the world's population. Epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG), a cathechin polyphenol component, is the main ingredient of green tea extract. Several studies reported the oxidative effects of EGCG, suggesting that EGCG had a dual function of anti-oxidant and pro-oxidant potentials. Although the anti-carcinogenic and cancer inhibitory effects of EGCG have been widely reported, its genotoxicity is not clear and seldom reported. In this study, author examined the effects of EGCG on human chromosome in lymphocyte induced chromosomal aberration by anticancer agents, cisplatin(CDDP). The results showed that EGCG at concentrations of 2uM suppressed the chromosomal aberration induced by CDDP in blood lymphocytes. From these findings, author propose that EGCG might have a function of anti-oxidant in healthy human lymphocytes, which would involved in its inhibitory effects against chromosomal aberration induced by CDDP.

It is known that most cytotoxic drugs have the potential of not only killing cancer cells by many of them impairing synthesis of nucleic acids by reacting with certain DNA bases but also resulting in inevitable damages to normal cells through more or less similar mechanisms, thus invoking suppression of cell division and proliferation, or even chromosomal aberration. Cis-dichlorodiammine platinum Ⅱ (cis-DDP), cyclophosphamide, adriamycin are only the several anticancer drugs employed, singly or in combination, in the treatment of various malignant neoplasms. This study was initiated to evaluate the effects of these anticancer drugs on human lymphocyte. Peripheral bloods from twenty-seven cancer patients treated with these chemotherapeutic agents and two control patients, with ovarian cancer with no prior history of anticancer chemotherapy nor irradiation were incubated. Using the techniques of sister chromated exchage (SCE) and chromosomal aberration, chromosome analysis in each group was made ; the following results were obtained : 1. Incidence of SCE and chromosomal aberration in vivo in the three groups, each treated with cis-DDP, cis-DDP and adriamycin, and cis-DDP, cyclophosphamide and adriamycin were all higher after than before treatment : it was the highest in the group given cis-DDP, cyclophosphamide and adriamycin, followed by the group given cis-DDP 2. The types of chromosomal aberration encountered in patients treated with anticancer chemotherapy were “chromatid gap”, “chromatid break”, “chromosome gap”, “chromosome break”, “dicentric”, .“ring”, and “exchange figure”. The exchange figure was not noted in the group treated with cis-DDP alone. However it was common in the group treated the regimen of cis-DDP, cyclophophamide, and adriamycin ; the incidence was higher than that noted in the treated with cis-DDP and adriamycin. 3. Three of the four patients continually treated with at least two anticancer drugs showed a decline in the incidence of SCE two to five weeks following treatment compared with control. However, the high incidence of other chromosomal aberration remained unchanged Further, incidence of SCE and chromosomal aberration tended to increase with the number of clycles of treatment.

The purpose of this study was to estimate industrial workers health habits by sex. Data was collected from 900 workers at 57 industries in Inchon. The research has been carried out through self-administered questionnaires and from the analysis of health examination records. The results were as follows: 1. The most prevalent age group of women were 20-30 years age group(44.3%) and of men were 30-40 years one(45.6%). As for the marital status, 48.1% of women were single and as were 30% of men. High school graduates were over 62.2% of both sex, 32.5% of the men and 58.0% of the women worked between 1 and 5 years. 2. As far as the health habits, women practiced better than men in smoking, drinking and breakfast habits while men practiced better than women in exercise, sleeping and snack habits(p<0.001). 3. According to the odds ratio of health habits by sex, gender was related to health practices in the present study, men had worse health habits than women by 139.83 times in smoking, by 6.97 times in drinking consumption(p<0.001). And as for eating regular breakfast habits, women had better health habits than men by 2.53 times(p<0.001). 4. Good health practice scores(5-7) were 25.0% in women and 12.6% in men and those had bad health practice (0-4) were 75.0% in women and 87.5% in men(p<0.001). 5. According to the results of multiple logistic regression to examine the difference of health habits by sex, men had worse health habit than women by 114.5 times in smoking, by 3.1 times in alcohol consumption more than once per week in control of the other factors. Women had better health habits than men by 4.5 times in regular breakfast habits. 6. Health habits had a statistically significant association with good health status among men, but the relationship was nonsignificant in the women. According to the odds ratio, men who had bad health habits were poorer health status than who had good health habits by 1.95 times(p<0.05).
