        전통 옻칠/갈이기법을 이용한 목기 디자인에 관한 연구

        When harmonized with modem design, the Korean traditional lacquered woodenware with a history of about two thousand years has the potential to appeal to the global sense of industrial craftsmanship as it is superior to any in terms of material used and is very friendly environmentally. To maximize this potential, however, it is necessary to develop a firm infrastructure for the supply of lacquer, including the forestation for the lacquer wood, the production of lacquer, the improvement of refining skills, and the development of better paints. Also ways must be found to induce the craftsmanship at the turning lathe to be elevated to a major independent industrial craft. Only then the mass-produced lacquered woodenware for everyday use and as tourist goods, showing the best merits of the Korean lathing technique, will be displayed and accepted with a new appreciation.

        상관개념(相關慨念: Correlative Concept)을 적용한 가구디자인에 관한 연구

        Recently, the aspect of consumers' preference for design has been changed to a pattern of respect for personality, based on 'personal value of passion'. The differentiated personal passion of modern people does not allow them to select mass-produced industrial product, and leads them to choose life style different from others. Specially, consumers want to express. their differentiated personality by preferring and possessing the originally designed products. Therefore, the originally designed products that are clearly identifiable become the object of consumers' consideration, and stimulate the consumers' desire to purchase. According to new needs of consumers, it is required to reconsider the old design pattern of furniture based on simplicity and propose new design for furniture to meet the needs of consumers. Mass production has resulted in a strong focus on simplicity rather than difficulty and complexity of the production process. This tendency shows the design pattern that leans toward one side excluding the expression of correlative concept among design elements. This one sided design leads modern people to have no personality, and shows only simple and uniform expression of passion. Therefore, this paper is purposed to develop furniture with more personality by applying correlative concept that has been taken less seriously in the field of design to furniture design.

        전통소재와 자연물을 활용한 조명디자인 개발 연구

        As modern society attaches important to a value in mental aspect and characteristics of consumers who become diverse and individualistic, lighting design also changes closely with everyday life. This study suggests a new concept of indoor lighting design, combining natural objects with lattice and Korean paper, one of our representative traditional materials in lighting design used in everyday life. In particular, it was designed with aesthetic sense of traditional culture and Korean sentiment besides external effect and function by combining Korean paper with natural objects such as insect and plant, material that could be easily obtain around us. As a result, it is intended to enhance quality of life and pursue happiness by suggesting a new concept of lighting design which is modern, harmonizes with everyday life of modern humans who become individualistic, and can arouse sensibility, overcoming the limitations of traditional lighting in indoor lighting.

        국내 가구디자인 공모전의 방향성 모색에 관한 연구 - 일본 ‘아사히카와 국제 가구디자인 공모전’을 중심으로 -

        오늘날 디자인 공모전은 기업의 수요와 맞물려 우수한 디자인을 발굴하여 궁극적으로 수익창출에 직접적으로 반영하고 기업경쟁력을 높이는데 그 목적을 두고 개최되고 있다. 본 연구는 현재의 국내 가구디자인 공모전의 상황 진단을 통한 분석으로 지속 가능한 가구공모전의 방향성을 모색하였다. 대표적인 사례로 2개의 국내 가구디자인 공모전의 현황과 문제점을 조사하고, 이어 해외의 선행(先行) 사례로 이웃 일본의 성공사례를 분석하였다. 이를 통해서 우리의 가구산업을 개선하고 활성화시키기 위하여 국내 정서와 여건에 맞는 가구디자인 공모전의 개선 방안을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 특히, 2000년 이후 국내에서 10년 이상 개최된 대표적 가구디자인 공모전인 ‘경기가구 우수디자인 공모전’과 ‘GaGu 디자인 공모전’을 구체적인 사례로 들었다. 또한 해외 사례로 일본 북해도의 아사히카와(旭川) 시에서 매3년마다 개최되고 있는 ‘아사히카와 국제 가구디자인 공모전(IFDA)’을 분석하였다. IFDA는 2005년부터 2014년까지 4회에 걸쳐 논자가 직접심사에 참여해서 구체적으로 경험했던 내용으로 실증적인 사례 연구가 되었다. 이를 통해서 공모전의 수상작이 향후 가구업체와 연결되어 제품화가 되기 위한 방법을 모색하고, 지속 가능한 국내 가구디자인 공모전의 방안을 제안하였다. Today, the design competitions are held for the purpose of creating the corporate profits and increasing the competitiveness by discovering the excellent designs. This study sought for the direction of sustainable competitions by diagnosing the current conditions of domestic furniture design competitions. As the representative cases, the current status and problems of two domestic furniture design competitions were researched, and then a successful case of Japan was analyzed as the foreign preceding case. The objective of this study is to suggest the measures of furniture design competition suitable for the domestic sentiment and conditions. Especially, 'GaGu Design Competition' and 'Gyeonggi Furniture Design Contest' held for more than ten years in Korea since 2000 were used as the cases. As a foreign case, 'The International Furniture Design Fair Asahikawa(IFDA)' held in Asahikawa of Hokkaido, Japan was analyzed. The writer participated in the screening of IFDA four times, and the empirical case study was conducted based on the experiential contents. Through this process, this study sought for the methods to commercialize the prize-winning works of competitions in the connection with furniture companies in the future, and also suggested the measures for the sustainable furniture design competitions of Korea.

        거실문화와 소통가구 디자인 연구

        Communication has increasingly become important between peoples in the modern society. The change in the composition of a family brought by urbanization and industrialization caused structural changes in the society, and the lack of communication between people have incited various social conflicts rising from individualism and ego-centrism. Thus in this era, domestic environment is one of the most significant environment that enables one to transform into an appropriate member of the social community as well as develop appropriate traits of one. The living room, which served as an arena of communication for family members is now replaced with TV, a popular media, and has lost its original role in the house. The living room furnitures today are designed to facilitate people in viewing TV, not to enhance communication between family members. Thus in this research, I would like to propose a new concept of ‘communication furniture’ and various examples to suggest appropriate, desired role of living room furniture in households today. In addition, I hope this research contributes to forming a beneficial living room culture and a domestic environment as well as a heart-warming, human society.

        공간활용과 간이가구(簡易家具)의 유형에 관한 연구 - 소형가구(Space-saving Furnitures)를 중심으로

        The typical Korean style of living, in which very large cabinets tor clothes and quilted mattresses (called "jang" and "nong" ) have a big cultural importance, inherently leaves much room for improvement, because of the space they occupy as well as the efficiency problems that they cause when moving. <br/> Furthermore, recent IMF-induced negative conditions of the Korean economy, e.g., high unemployment rate and the subsequent downsizing of the household budget, have made it necessary to reduce the overall living space and to manufacture home furniture, of all sorts, according to the shrunken space.<br/> Considering these factors, it is desirable to do a study on small portable furniture which is easy to store and move, so that even small spaces can be used most efficiently.<br/>

        국내 금속가구 디자인 개발에 관한 연구

        While furniture making in general has been traditionally regarded as labor-intensive industry, the making of metal furniture has immense potential in terms of its growth and as a value added industry. Granted that the technology and designing of metal furniture in Korea are still behind the standards enjoyed by the developed nations of the world, still its future here is promising when we consider the comparatively short history of its industry. Korea depends on imports from abroad for almost all the natural resources she needs for industry. Metal (especially iron) industry is, however, one field where she has some advantage over other nations. Korea is a major producer of iron and her technology in this field is competitive in the international market. When viewed from the points of environment and ecology metal furniture has good points, as metals are recyclable when they are discarded and collected properly according to their reusability. This adds to the merits its industry has here as this country, with her limited natural resources, has yet to solve the pressing problem of disposing ever-increasing waste matter from homes and factories.<br/>
