Porous ${\beta}-tricalcium$ phosphate $({\beta}-TCP)$ bioceramic was fabricated by pressureless sintering using commercial HAp and different volume percentages of PMMA powders (30-60 vol.%). The range of spherical pore size was about $200-250\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. By increasing the PMMA content, the number of pores and their morphology were dramatically changed as well as decreased the material properties. In case of using 60 vol.% PMMA content, network-type pores were found, due to the necking of the PMMA powders. The values of relative density, elastic modulus, bending strength and hardness of the 60 vol.% PMMA content sample, sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$, were about 46%, 22.2 GPa, 5MPa and 182 Hv respectively. Human osteoblast-like MG-63 cells and osteoclast-like Raw 264.7 cells were well grown and fully covered all of the porous ${\beta}-TCP$ bodies sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$.

Core-shell structured HAp-(t-ZrO2)/Al2O3-(m-ZrO2) composites were fabricated using a multi extrusion process. The shell of Al2O3-(m-ZrO2) phases was selected due to their excellent biocompatibility and mechanical properties and the core was designed with t-ZrO2 dispersed HAp matrix, In the 3rd passed sample, core/shell and fibrous microstructures having 4㎛ in diameter and 1㎛ in thickness were clearly observed. In the composite sintered at 1200℃, many pores were observed in both HAp-(t-ZrO2) core and Al2O3-(m-ZrO2) shell regions. However at 1500℃, the shell regions showed dense microstructure. The values of relative density, hardness, bending strength and fracture toughness in the sample sintered at 1500℃ were higher than those of 1200℃ and their maximum values were at 1500℃ about 95%, 967Hv, 278 MPa and 4.2 MPam(1/2), respectively. The fracture morphology was appeared with homogeneously rough surface due to the crack deflection and phase transformation of t-ZrO2 particles.
상처 치료용 하이드로겔에 적용을 위한 방부제의 세포독성평가

Phenoxyethanol과 Paraben류는 항균제로서 제약과 화장품, 식품 안에 공통적으로 사용된다. 우리는 상처 치료용 겔의 부패 방지를 목적으로 phenoxyethanol, methyl paraben, propyl paraben 그리고 이들의 혼합물 사용을 위해 유효한 농도를 결정하고자 세포 독성 실험을 수행하였다. 세포독성 실험은 상기의 방부제를 mouse fibroblast cell line(L929)에 농도별로 처리하여 세포의 생존률로써 확인하였다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 phenoxyethanol, methyl paraben, propyl paraben 그리고 이들의 혼합물을 처리시 E.coli와 S.aureus의 성장 억제 활성을 확인하여 상처 치료용 겔에 적용하고자 한다. Phenoxyethanol and Paraben derivatives are well known as preservative and used in cosmetics and pharmaceutics and foods. Therefore, an investigation was carried out to assess the effect on the cytotoxicity of those preservatives when the preservatives were subjected to a commercial sterilization procedure using gamma-irradiation. The cytotoxicity tests of these hydrogels were evaluated by cell viability of L929 (mouse fibroblast). As results, the preservatives have a good cell viability results.
Acinetobacter lwoffi PO8 에 의한 인산흡수 및 축적

To remove phosphate accumulated in the soil and water, Acinetobacter lwoffi PO8 possessing a high ability to accumulate phosphate was isolated from a active sludge. Bacterium was cultured in the liquid medium containing 150 ㎍/mL of phosphate at 30℃ in different culture conditions to examine intracellular phosphate uptake. The initial pH in the range of 7.5∼8.5 was effective on the growth and phosphate uptake of the strain. Glycerol and arabinose used as a carbon sources showed 93 and 91% the phsphate uptake, respectively. Among the nitrogen sources, ammonium salt such as NH₄NO₃ and (NH₄)₂SO₄ was effectively utilized on the phosphate uptake compared with amino compounds. The rate of the phosphate uptake of NH₄NO₃ and (NH₄)₂SO₄, was 95 and 96%, respectively. The growth and phosphate uptake ability in the strain were significantly promoted when metal ions were added in the medium; Co^(2+), however, was not utilized by the strain. The capacity of phosphate uptake was enhanced to 10∼20% when arginine, methionine, or lysine was added. Using ^(32)P to examine the uptake pattern of intracellular phosphate, experiment result showed that polyphosphate was largely found in the fraction of intracellular inorganic phosphate of Acinetobacter lwoffi PO8.
