The physical education held today all over the world has originated from ancient Greece. Women in ancient Greece were excluded from systematic physical education and comprehensive educational institution and debarred from entering the gymnasium. The equality with men that women enjoy in sport today developed lagely from the ideas of the Enlightenment and those propagated by physicians and educationlists in the 19th centry. Classical models have hardly contributed to this development at all. The women of the nobility could participate in the sport activities within their social and educational milieu and emotional well-being were the factors that motivated their participation in sport. They participated in dance, hunting, horseback riding, hawking, archery, ball-games, chess, backgammon and schools. With the incredible changes in consciousness and the economic growth after world war Ⅱ, girls sports went beyond the limits of school life so that the population and age group of girls participating in sports expanded. It can be said that this resulted in the improvement of women's consciousness, economic capacity and independence. Despite De Coubertin's attitude toward women's sport the year 1900 was the first time when women participated in the olmypic games held in Paris. Now the participation of women in all kinds of sports has increased and, women is expanding rapidly. However the situation is not entirly satisfactory. Women sports has indeed some a long way and may still have a long way to go.
