Spontaneous rupture with internal bleeding of solid tumors has rarely been described at the time of diagnosis or during chemotherapy. This rare event must be regarded as a life threatening condition. In these emergency situations, control of hemorrhage, which is life-saving, can be achieved by transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) and/or surgical resection. This report describes two infants presenting with acute hemorrhagic shock due to spontaneous tumor rupture of hepatoblastoma and neuroblastoma during chemotherapy. TAE successfully arrested the tumor bleeding and a visibly reduced the tumor size in both children. Spontaneous rupture of solid tumors occur infrequently in children, but is a life threatening situation. Careful monitoring for the occurrence of this rare event especially in very young children presenting with a large tumor mass.

國産天然 Bentonite에 의한 플랑크톤 藻類의 沈降除去實驗

An experimental investigation was conducted in a sedimentation basing to remove a certain freshwater algae using natural bentonite as a flocculant, and some results obtained are summerized as followings : 1. With dosing of 1500㎎/ℓ of bentonite suspension, the predominant species Spirogyra fluviatilis were removed by 71% and 81% at 50Cm and 100Cm of depth, respectively. 2. pH and turbidity showed almost the inital levels in two hours after temporary slight rise by sprinking of bentonite suspension. COD, DIN, and PO^(3-)₄ -P, however, were not affected by sprinkling of the bentonite suspension.

본 연구는 음절어의 형성 과정을 재검토하고 한자어 음절어의 한 유형인 ACE(<AB CDE)형 음절어의 형성에 대하여 살핀다. 음절어의 형성은 ‘선택+결합’을 거치는데 ‘선택’은 ‘선택[단어]’과 ‘선택[음절]’으로 구분된다. 전자는 원형식 전체를 대상으로 핵심적인 구성단어를 선별하는 작용이고, 후자는 구성단어에서 대표 음절을 가려 뽑는 작용이다. 그리고 이후의 ‘결합’은 선별된 대표 음절들이 의미변화 없이 형태만 새로운 단어를 형성하는 작용이 된다. 이때 결합은 원형식이 서술어구일 때 제한적으로 명사로의 범주적 변화를 일으킨다는 점에서 파생의 결합과 유사한 측면이 있다. 이를 바탕으로 ACE형 음절어의 형성에서 ‘C’가 보충적으로 선택되는 이유는 다음과 같이 설명할 수 있다. 첫째, 기존 2음절 한자어의 저지 현상을 회피하기 위함이다. 둘째, 접미한자어 ‘E’가 명확히 인식되게 하기 위함이다. This study revisits the formation process of acronyms, and examines ACE-type Sino-Korean acronyms (derived from expressions structured AB CDE). The formation of these acronyms involves the process of “selection + combination.” The “selection” phase is divided into “Selection[word]” and “Selection[syllable].” The former entails selecting essential words from the entire original expression, while the latter identifies representative syllables within each selected word. The “combination” phase then involves merging the selected syllables to form a new word, which retains the original meaning but adopts a different form. When the original expression is a predicate phrase, this combination process may induce a limited nominal shift, bearing some similarity to derivation. Thus, the additional selection of “C” in the ACE-type acronyms can be explained by the following factors: (1) to avoid blocking by preexisting two-syllable Sino-Korean words, and (2) to ensure a clear recognition of the Sino-Korean suffixal “E.”

Culture tests are very important in choosing the appropriate antibiotics for bacterial infections. In some cases, bacteria that could not be identified in standard culture bottles could be detected using blood culture bottles. A previously healthy 13-year-old boy visited our emergency room. He experienced pain, redness, and hardness of periumbilical skin and a fever for five days. There was no history of abdominal surgery and penetrating trauma. Computed tomography showed abscess with cellulitis at the periumbilical soft tissue with no congenital anomaly. Ultrasonography-guided aspiration was performed, and about 8.5 mL of the purulent abscess was aspirated. The abscess was cultured using blood culture bottle. The pus grew Actinomyces radingae and Clostridium ramosum. When performing the pus culture, using blood culture bottles can be more effective and rapid than the standard culture method for the detection of bacterial pathogens.
