The work aims to review Hawthorne’s Irony through studying various ambivalence in The House of the Seven Gables, especially focusing on Clifford's altered state of consciousness. In the Preface to The House of the Seven Gables, Hawthorne famously distinguishes between romance and the novel, also claims that his narrative is a romance in “its attempt to connect a by-gone time with the very Present that is flitting away from us.” Hawthorne’s romance is taken to be integrative mode seeking to reconcile self and other, past and present, spirit and matter, actual and imaginary. By this ambivalence, his romances are full of various ironies of fine intelligence and sensibility. Clifford is an ambivalent figure in the site of considerable anxiety and altered state of consciousness in The House of the Seven Gables. At one point in the novel, Clifford in the crowd of a political procession passes, is immersed in the surging stream of human sympathies. But after discovering Jaffrey dead in the study, Clifford and Hepzibah fly from the House of the Seven Gables boarding a train. The train is a figure for their displacement. The writing of romance takes place in a kind of altered state of consciousness, analogous to mesmerism. As a final irony, Holgrave’s daguerreotype of the dead Judge serves, because of it’s presumed minute fidelity, as evidence not only in the case of Jaffrey’s sudden death, but also that of the earlier death of his uncle, which it is assumed to repeat. The ambivalence and the irony in Hawthorne’s romance is linked with the discrepancies between the idealism and the reality in American society.

The purpose of this paper is to revisit Hawthorne's perspective of feminism in The Scarlet Letter. The study is motivated by the argument of Hawthorne's attitude toward feminism. Some critics understand him as feminist, others, anti-feminist. In advance, it is essential to examine Hawthorne's background, regarding his close relationships with women and the 19th- century Woman Movement. They are main factors that influenced Hawthorne's view of womanhood.
In order to know Hawthorne's view of womanhood, this paper explored the 19th-century Woman Movement, tracing evolving images of ideal womanhood was found in American culture. These ideals included True Womanhood, Real Womanhood, Public Womanhood and New Womanhood. The study examined Hawthorne's fiction, The Scarlet Letter as well as several short stories looking specifically at these evolving images of womanhood.
Hawthorne was very close to his elder sister Elizabeth, his mother Manning and his wife Sophia. He had good relationships with some public women such as Elizabeth Peabody and Margaret Fuller. These women had much influence on the shape of Hawthorne's view of womanhood. Hester in The Scarlet Letter was sometimes associated with Hawthorne's mother or Margaret Fuller.
The Scarlet Letter revealed Hawthorne's reaction to the 19th-century Woman Movement and Hawthorne's view of womanhood. Hester in The Scarlet Letter becomes gradually transfigured into a progressive and reformative woman, free from submissive and conventional woman.
In the conclusion and at the base of this response, Hawthorne is deserved to be understood as a 19th-century early feminist novelist.

BLT nanotubes were synthesized by using simple and convenient method template-wetting process. Porous alumina membranes were prepared by 2 step anodic oxidation as the template. To improve wetting properties and make low surface energy, BLT solution was mixed with polymer. Polymer was removed completely during annealing. After completely etching the template in 30 wt% KOH solution, we demonstrate that BLT nanotubes with a diameter of 200 nm can be fabricated. Grain growth process of BLT nanotubes during baking, and furnace annealing was examined by FE-SEM and XRD.

Hawthorne wants to reveal his view of womanhood through the central female characters in The Marble Faun. Miriam and Hilda are living independently in Italy, free of financial support or male guardianship as new women. Both also have careers as artists and are able to support themselves. However, there are major differences in their view of life, art and marriage. Miriam’s art seems to reveal her own deep suffering and unconscious desire for revenge. She is attracted to Donatello because of his innocence and sexure allure. On the other hand, Hilda elevates softly reality through her art. She maintains a distance from Kenyon, while not rejecting the idea of marriage. Hawthorne made every effort to solve women’s problems and promote women’s positions in his works. Hawthorne also can be understood as a 19th-century pre-feminist novelist as well as progressive and reformative novelist.
Nanoscale Orientations of ferroelectric BLT films for nonvolatile semiconductor memories

Nanoscale control of microstructures of ferroelectric lms with large switching polarization has been one of the issues in obtaining uniform electrical properties for realization of high-density memories. In this study, the grain orientations and size distributions of BLT lms made by spin-on coatings were examined by FEG-SEM and EBSD techniques. Ferroelectric-domain characteristics were also investigated by a piezoelectric scanning probe microscope to study the dependence of the properties of domain switching on grain orientation and distribution. It is demonstrated that the EBSD technique is successful in characterization of lm orientations. Ferroelectric-domain studies indicate that c-axis-oriented grains with plate-like morphology show almost linear dielectric behavior. a- or b-axis-oriented grains (< 0.1 m) with superior ferroelectric properties show ellipsoidal morphology. Consequently, suppression of the plate-like structure through process controls is important for the realization of high-density BLT-based memories.
