Diesel engines provide merits in the aspect of higher thermal efficiency and less CO₂ emission, but more problems on PM and NOx emissions. Selective Catalyst Reduction(SCR) technology is well-known to be effective for the reduction of NOx emission. SCR system can be classified into three kinds of NSR, NH₃-SCR and HC-SCR depending on reducing agents in jet spray. Because of poisoning problem of sulfur and unstable gas condition, much stable Urea-SCR system has been preferred to use instead. However, this research used to NH₃ gas instead Urea solution to model gas test. It is general to use NH₃-SCR catalyst for the NOx reduction on a diesel engine. This research focuses on the effects of gas temperature, SV(space velocity) and AR(aspect ratio) of NOx reduction rate. In this experiment was used the model gas which is similar to a diesel exhaust gas. NOx conversion rate is higher than 90% at the temperature of near 400℃ for all cases. As SV is lower, NOx conversion rate is decreased. On the contrary, as AR is higher, NOx conversion rate is increased.

As an alternative energy in future hydrogen has been attracted since it might be a long-term solution to the limited global fossil energy. In particular, in automobile industries the technology of hydrogen fueled engine can bridge hybrid or fuel cell vehicles, and hydrogen fuel gives merits in wide ranges of combustion, improved thermal efficiency, close to zero harmful emissions except NOx and improved compression ratio by a higher octane number of hydrogen fuel itself. Despite many researches have conducted actively on the technique of directly injected hydrogen fuel rather than a pre-mixed type in order to reduce emissions and improve a power and response of combustion control, so far there are few comparison study on the performance and emission characteristics among direct injection and pre-mixed hydrogen engines and gasoline engines. This research aims to provide fundamentals of performance and emission characteristics between direct injection and pre-mixed type hydrogen engines comparing with gasoline engines, and may contribute in the development of a hydrogen engine in future.
바나듐과 Fe-Zeolite Urea-SCR 촉매의 NOx 저감특성에 관한 연구

Urea SCR system is well known technology to reduce NOx from diesel engine. In Korea, Vanadium SCRs have been used in heavy-duty commercial vehicles with introducing EURO-4. As vanadium is regarded as the material of causing cancer, Zeolite SCR would be technical alternative to meet next regulation stage. In this study, NOx reduction characteristics have been compared between Vanadium and Fe-Zeolite SCR depending on some parameters like space velocity, NO2/NOx ratio, NH3 concentration, etc. The tested vanadium and Fe-Zeolite SCR have similar tendency in NOx reduction as above parameters, but show quite different performance characteristics in low temperature.
