Vol.18 No.3

This study was carried out in order to investigate the compressional deformation of cut-pile carpet. The results are summarized as follows; 1) Pile density being constant, as pile height increases compressional load decreases and pile height being constant, compressional load increases as pile density increases. 2) There is non-linear relationship between the compressional deformation and the load. Linear relationship can be obtained by In-ln plotting of the ratio of load and time. 3) The equation for the relation between the load and pile height is 4) Though the time dependence of compressional deformation exists, relaxation time is very short.

Vol.17 No.4

Tensile properties of spun yarn can be evaluated from lea strength and single end strength. In this paper, lea strength and single end strength with varying yarn counts and twists were measured experimentally and also relationships between lea strength and single end strength were investigated in various yarns. In the given TM (twist multiplier) 3.2-4.8, maximum strength and minimum strength CV% were found to occur at the level of TM 4.0-4.4 in CD (carded yarn) 20's, CD3O's and at a point of TM 4.0 in CM (combed yarn) 40's ring-spun cotton yarn. Regression coefficient increased as the count of ringspun cotton yarn became higher (fewer fibres per cross section) and increased as the level of TM in this yarn became higher or lower than optimum TM, which could be explained by the fact that single end strength variation became higher as TM deviated from the optimum value. In the Open-End yarn, strength CV% and regression coefficient decreased as the yarn became finer.

Vol.27 No.10

Twenty samples of polyurethane foams for automobile seat were obtained from potyol and isocyanates of TDl/MDl base with index of 95~100 and MDI based foam with indices of 90~100. The detailed physical and compressional properties of the foam were investigated as a change of mixing ratio of isocyanate content, density and the values of indices. The following results were obtained from our study. 1. Better performances of the foam, such as higher tensile strength, elongation and tear siren이h are observed with increasing the content of TDI in isocyanate component when the density and index are maintained at constant. 2. The performances of the foam from constant load deflection and constant deflection comperession are improved with increasing content of MDI in isocyanate component when the density and index are maintained at constant. 3. Shorter curing time of MDI based foam than that of TDl/MDl based foam brings the increase in productivity of the foam. 4. Compression-recovery test reveals that permanent deformation is negligible to give a hysteresis loop.

Vol.21 No.4

Pressure developed inside wool assemblies under constant-volume, cyclic, compressive loading has been investigated. Measured pressure value decreases with an increase in number of repeat cycles whilst it registers a higher value as the off-load interval (the time interval between two consecutive loading intervals) is increased. The regression curve is in excellent agreement with a decreasing exponential curve of the form Y=C+A exp (BX). Pressuer is affected strongly by the number of cyclic repeats and only slightly affected by the cyclic time interval when it is short whereas it is significantly affected by the cyclic time interval when it is longer. Volume deformation under constant compressive load increases with time, and this is expressible as decreasing exponential curve represented by this Y=C+A exp(Bt). By employing a three-parameter solid rheological model for the random fibre assembly at the constant load compression, two elastic moduli and a coefficient of viscosity were found to vary linearly with the density of fibre assembly at the first compression.

Vol.27 No.1

Studies on the compressional behaviour of wool fiber mass at the dynamic compression have been carried out, and the following conclusions are derived. 1. The relationship between peak pressure and the number of repeat of dynamic compression is well fitted into the regression equation of Yp=Ap exp(BpX)+Cp. 2. The relationship between fatigue and the number of repeat of dynamic compression is well fitted into the regression equation Yf=Af exp(BfX)+Cf. 3. Resilience of fibre mass tested on dynamic compression maintains constant value with increased number of repeat. 4. Bent compressive curves were found on higher speed compression more than 5Hz.

Vol.2 No.-

The numbers of hairs of the lengths, over 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 6mm and 8mm on the worsted single yarns are increased with the decrease of twist multiplier insected on them. When we coated oils on the surface of the yarns, the number of short hairs less than 6mm is significantly decreased compared with those of non oiled yarns. However the number of longer hairs more than 6mm is not decreased with the oiling to the yarn surfaces. Gas singeing of the yarn fairs was very effective to decrease the number of longer hairs than 3mm and with the result of singeing the remained number of hairs for raw white single yarn was only 6-8% of the number of the hairs before singeing and 10-11% for dyed single yarns.

Vol.13 No.3

The authors investigated the yarn irregularities caused by the different break drafts i.e., 1.21, 1.38, 1.65, 1.91, 2.20, the different tensor openings i.e., 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 5.0mm, and the results were as followings; 1. The effect of break draft on the irregularity of spun yarn(U%) was significant at the 99% level and the minimum irregularity was obtained with the break draft of 1.38 for CD30's and CM38's, and with the break draft of 1.21 for P/C45's. 2. Irregularity of spun yarn was increased as the tensor opening was increased, and the increasing rate was the largest at the minimum value of break draft i.e. maximum value of main draft. 3. Total added irregularity(above the normal curve on the spectrum) was significantly increased as the break draft was increased. The minimum value of total added irregularity was obtained with the break draft of 1.38 for CD 30's and CM 38's, and 1.21 for P/C 45's. Total added irregularity was also significantly increased as the tensor opening was increased. 4. The effects of break draft and tensor opening on the short-term added irregularity were very significant at the 99% level. Short-term added irregularity was decreased as the break draft was increased. It was also increased as the tensor opening was increased. 5. The effect of break draft on the long-term added irregularity was very significant at the 99% level. Long-term added irregularity was increased as the break draft was incresed, and its increasing rate was the largest for CD 30's and the smallest for P/C 45's. And the long-term added irregularity was not changed as the tensor opening was increased. 6. IPI value (thick places and thin places) was increased as the break draft was increased, and it was minimum with the beak draft of 1.38 for CD 30's and CM 38's, and 1.21 for P/C 45's. It was also increased as the tensor opening was increased. 7. There was no significant change in single strand strength for all kinks of spun yarns with different break drafts and different tensor openings.
