Purpose: This study was to identified differentiated genes concerned with apoptosis that are up-regulated or down-regulated in OLETF corneal keratocytes stimulated with interleukin-1α. Methods: Otsuka Long Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) corneal keratocytes were primarily cultured and treated with 20 ng/ml of IL-1a for 6 hours. Hybridization was carried out using Oligonucleotide microarray. A sample of normal keratocytes was labeled with Cy 3, and a diabetic keratocytes sample was labeled with Cy 5. Results: Diabetes showed 20 down-regulated genes and 24 up-regulated genes compared with normal keratocytes. Also, IL-1α-treated diabetic keratocytes expressed 31 down-regulated and 33 up-regulated genes. Compared with diabetic keratocytes, the newly expressed genes in OLETF treated with IL-1α were Bcl, Lam, Timp, Mmp, Socs, Bmp, Ccl, Lcn, C7, etc. Conclusions: There were some genes related with apoptosis that expressed differently between normal and diabetic keratocytes of OLETF. Also, IL-1α may stimulate differing effects of apoptosis on diabetic corneal keratocytes. Studies analyzing the apoptotic significance of these differences identified in diabetic keratocytes are needed.

Purpose: To report a case of secondary pigmentary glaucoma after implantable contact lens (ICL) implantation successfully treated with trabeculectomy without ICL removal. Case summary: A 29-year-old woman presented with refractory intraocular pressure (IOP) increase in both eyes. IOP was 22 mm Hg in the right eye and 39 mm Hg in the left eye. The patient received posterior chamber phakic intraocular lens implantation in both eyes 22 months prior. Slit lamp examination revealed patent iridotomy sites in both eyes. Gonioscopy revealed open angles with 4-degree pigment deposits on the trabecular meshwork in both eyes. Ultrasound biomicroscopy examination confirmed contact between ICL and the posterior surface of the iris. In spite of well tolerated medical therapy and selective laser trabeculoplasty, IOP was 46 mm Hg in her left eye. Trabeculectomy was performed in her left eye without ICL removal. At 6 months postoperative, IOP measured 6 mm Hg without any anti-glaucoma medication and bleb was maintained in good condition in the left eye. Conclusions: The results from this case study indicate that ICL implantation can lead to secondary pigmentary glaucoma and trabeculectomy without ICL removal may help to decrease the IOP.
구강 편평세포암에서 EGFR과 C-erb-B2 유전자 발현에 관한 면역조직화학적 연구

The clinical staging systems for oral squamous cell carcinoma is limited as a prognostic indicatior because of different biological characteristics of cancer in this region and variable microenvironment depending on subsites, there have been study to determine prognosis by evaluating malignancy, that is the nature of tumor cells. Many studies have been tried to determine prognostic indicator in various malignancies for the evaluation of differentiation capacity and the expression of oncogene product. EGF make a role in cellular growth and differentiation and to be essential in cellular survival. EGFR is an intergral membrane protein, stimulate cellular differentiation and hormonal secretion, and has structural homology with V-erb-B transforming protein. Recent reports have demonstrated that EGFR is overexpressed in stomach, breast, vagina, dermis, head and neck, genitourinary and lung tumors, and possibly used as a tumor marker. In head and neck region, most of studies were mainly carried out on laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. In the present study, immunohistochemical study for EGFR and C-erb-B2 gene in paraffin sections of 45 squamous cell carcinoma in oral cavity was performed to evaluate the presense of EGFR and C- erb-B2 gene in this lesion, to evaluate them as a prognostic indicator by analysing the correlation between these expression and subsites, primary stages, clinical stages, pathologic grades, neck node metastasis, recurrences and treatment results, and to determine relation between EGFR and C-erb-B2 gene.
PP섬유 혼입량에 따른 세그먼트 라이닝의 화재저항성 평가

세그먼트 라이닝의 고품질/고강성/고강도화에 따라 세그먼트 라이닝을 터널의 최종 라이닝으로 삼는 경우가 증가하고 있다. 프리캐스트 콘크리트 라이닝은 현장타설 콘크리트에 비해 품질 및 강도가 높다. 역설적으로 이러한 점은 터널 내 화재 시 콘크리트의 손상을 더 크게 하는 요인이 된다. 본 연구에서는 PP 섬유와 같은 합성섬유를 이용한 내화방법에서 섬유함유량에 따라 세그먼트 라이닝의 화재저항성능을 파악하기 위한 시험을 수행하였다. 그 결과, PP섬유 1.5 kg/m<sup>3</sup> 사용 시 관련 프로젝트에서 요구한 화재저항성능을 확보할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 더불어 유사한 함성섬유인 PET를 사용하였을 경우와 PP섬유의 결과를 비교한 결과, PP섬유가 PET섬유를 사용하였을 경우에 비해 더 좋은 화재저항성능이 나타냄을 알 수 있었다. With the high quality/high stiffness/high strength of segment lining, segment lining is increasingly used as the final lining of the tunnel. Precast concrete lining has higher quality and strength than field concrete. Paradoxically, this contributes to greater damage to concrete in the event of a fire in a tunnel. In this study, tests were conducted to determine the fire resistance performance of segment linings according to fiber content in fire resistance methods using synthetic fibers such as PP fibers. As a result, it was confirmed that fire resistance performance required by the relevant project can be secured when using 1.5 kg/m<sup>3</sup> of PP fiber. In addition, comparison of the results of PP fibers with PET, a similar synthetic fiber, showed better fire resistance performance than when PP fibers were used.
