Vol.40 No.1
This paper aims to derive the attributes of architectural design elements and biometric indicators that affect the user’s positive emotion through the synthesis of previous studies and to confirm the feasibility of measuring bio-signals as an objective evaluation tool for architectural design and as a quantitative research method. As a result, the biometric data from EEG, ECG, EMG, GSR, and eye-tracking were used to measure the participants’ emotional responses. The attributes of Architectural design elements related to the positive emotion were the curved shape, high ceiling, openness of space, and soft tone colors. Standard lighting conditions and wooden spaces were related to stress reduction in terms of comfort and relaxation. Therefore we confirmed the feasibility of the emotional response measurement by using the biometric data.
Vol.17 No.-
This paper explores legal and policy improvement measures to provide adequate protection and support for LGBT runaway and homeless youth. First, it gauges the current situation faced by sexual minority youth in homes and schools by examining case studies and statistics, and how these circumstances drive them out of their homes. Sexual minority youth are exposed to hate speech, bullying, and physical and mental abuse on the basis of their sexual orientation and gender identity, which can be identified as the main cause for them to run away from their homes. Furthermore, they are highly susceptible to discrimination from other homeless youth, sex trafficking, and high-risk sexual behaviors, which makes their lives on the streets especially dangerous. Youth shelters, the most accessible form of social safety net for runaway youth, are often unsuccessful in fulfilling their roles when it comes to sexual minority groups. Hence, the paper also looks at the current state of youth shelters and identifies their main issues from the standpoint of an LGBT runaway youth. The issues are as follows: (1) youth shelter practitioners' limited understanding of young sexual minority people or the shelter's affiliation with a certain religion, (2) alienation of transgender youth who do not conform to the biological gender classification, (3) inadequate provision of medical service by the youth shelters, and (4) lack of sustainable support and care available to the LGBT runaway youth. The legal basis that guarantees the rights and interests of sexual minority youth is also examined. Many international human rights treaties ratified by South Korea prohibit discrimination based on one's sexual orientation or gender identity. Several laws including the Constitution call for the protection of sexual minorities and youth as well. Hence, it is a responsibility of the state to provide proper protection and care to LGBT homeless youth. Lastly, the paper proposes improvement measures for youth shelters to provide adequate protection and support to LGBT homeless youth. First, sexual orientation and gender identity must be added to the list of anti-discrimination items as stated by the Framework Act on Juveniles, and a shift in public perception towards the LGBT group must be encouraged through policy implementation. Second, provision of medical service must be enhanced, and diversification of youth shelters must be sought. Finally, youth shelters for LGBT homeless youth must be established in order to provide them with adequate public protection and service at the government level.

Neuroarchitecture explores the physiological and neurological effects of architectural space on humans for application to space design to ensure health and well-being based on human emotional and aesthetic experiences. This study aims to identify, based on neuroarchitecture, the emotional design of educational facilities that can positively affect students emotionally. Emotional design indicators include 20 items derived from elements of the healing environment and biophilic design and architectural design elements related to the positive emotions of users, classified under three design factors: restorativeness, stress reduction, and aesthetics and pleasure. The applicability of design indicators was assessed for the 30 best designs of common spaces of high schools in foreign countries, finding that the design indicators of the aesthetics and pleasure factor was highly applicable, but the restorativeness and stress reduction factors were less applicable. Therefore, it is necessary to supplement these design indicators. The design characteristics identified were “spatial form” as an open type with a void or atrium and “natural elements” as applying through windows with natural light and outdoor views. “Light” consists of being equipped with standard illuminance and “color” is monotone. This design strategy will ultimately support the emotional health of students, thereby facilitating learning efficiency and contributing to the well-being of school life.
