In recent years, a demand for micro-structure machining is increasing by the development of information and optics industries. Micro machining technology is in general well known in the field of lithograghy. However, the requirement of producing micro machine and/or micro mechanism with metal materials will be increased since a variety of workpiece configurations can be easily made. In this paper, ultra precision machine is developed to obtain micro groove and mirror surface using single crystal diamond tool. According to the cutting experiment, no burr was found at the edge of V-grooves, and the surface roughness of copper is about 1~3㎚ Ra. It is verified that ultra precision machine is effective to high precision machining.

An air spring was accepted for rail vehicle secondary suspension to reduce and absorb the vibration and the noise. The air spring for the electric railway was developed with domestic technology, which consisted of a cord reinforced rubber bellows, a upper plate, a lower plate and a stopper rubber spring. The fatigue test was conducted in laboratory by using servo hydraulic fatigue testing system to verify the durability. And to guarantee the adaptation of this air spring, the ride comfort and the air pressure variation were measured in train test on Boondang line.

The study aims to compare the characteristics of high temperature oxidation in various High Si Ductile Cast Iron (HSOCI) in order to improve the material for exhaust manifolds which require stronger heat resistance. The specimens containing 2~6% Si and 0~4%Mo were heated in 650℃~950℃ for 100hrs, and 650℃ for 5~20 day. Consequently, amount of oxidation were decreased<br/> with increase of Si, Mo, due to the formation of Fe₂SiO₄and Mo carbide. As the amount of Si and Mo increase, hardness is increased but charpy impact energy in deceased. This is because that the Si solution and Mo carbide in matrix increase with increase of Si, Mo. As a result of addition of various alloy elements in the cast iron which contained 3.5%C, anti-oxidation property is improved, but toughness is decreased with increase of Si, Mo
