Inflation from Gaugino Condensation in Supergravity

계범석 한국물리학회 2017 New Physics: Sae Mulli Vol.67 No.12

The mass parameter responsible for inflation in the simplest original F-term inflationary model can be generated if the gauginos in a hidden sector condense and the inflaton field linearly contributes to the relevant gauge kinetic function. We point out that the relevant local and/or global symmetries in the F-term inflationary models can be broken even during inflation if the inflaton field couples non-linearly to hidden sector gauginos and waterfall fields. Accordingly, the resultant topological objects are diluted away during inflation, so the monopole and/or the cosmic string problems in the simplest original F-term inflationary model can be resolved in this case.

Non-minimal D-term hybrid inflation in supergravity

계범석 한국물리학회 2021 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.79 No.5

We investigate the effects of logarithmic corrections to the minimal Kähler potential in supergravity. They provide a constant Fayet–Iliopoulos term, but can induce singularities in the “F-term” scalar potential. If a proper superpotential is supplemented, such singularities can be avoided at the minimum of the scalar potential and the relevant U(1) gauge symmetry as well as supersymmetry can be broken. We apply this mechanism to a D-term hybrid inflationary model such that the U(1) gauge symmetry is broken during the inflation era and the resultant cosmic strings are diluted away. We employ a nonminimal form of the gauge kinetic function that includes an inflaton’s contribution such that the spectral index in the minimal D-term inflationary model is cured to the observed value. The tensor-to-scalar ratio is extremely small.

        Sterile Higgs Boson

계범석 한국물리학회 2019 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.75 No.11

To address the “little hierarchy problem,” we introduce two extra scalar fields neutral under the standard model gauge symmetry on top of the standard model. One linear combination of them has an almost flat potential, and so it can dynamically compensate the large Higgs mass parameter, while its small negative mass parameter can play the role of the electroweak symmetry breaking source. Thus the smallness of its mass parameter is responsible for the relatively small Higgs vacuum expectation value compared to a cut-off energy scale of the standard model. This scenario should eventually be embedded e.g. in a supersymmetric model, where the small mass parameters of the neutral singlets can be explained by employing both the gravity- and gaugemediated supersymmetry breaking mechanisms. Their mixing angles with the Higgs boson can be suppressed enough (∼ 10 −2), avoiding the phenomenological constraints. The mass of the lighter scalar field is of order sub-electroweak scale (∼ 10 GeV), when the heavier one is above TeV scale (∼ 5TeV).
