고전소설에 나타난 사찰공간의 실상과 활용양상

This study examines the real background facts and its practical aspect of temple-space expressed in classical novels. The temple-space in classical novels is a Utopian space that has two sides of religious sentiment of Buddhism and Taoism, and this space is used in various background settings. First, the temple-space of classical novels is used in the desire-space that actualizes a character’s wish. Second, this temple-space is also used in the deliverance-space that relieves a character in the misfortune of crisis. Third, this is a meeting space in which characters meet each other dramatically. Lastly, this space is used in the achievement-space in which characters obtain power. Thus, the temple-space is one of main background-settings of classical novels, and the concern about this space should be continued.(Chunagnam National University)

고전소설의 소상강 활용양상

본 논문은 소상강이 고전소설의 주요 작중공간으로 수용되고, 변모된 다양한 양상을 고찰한 것이다. 중국의 소상팔경도가 한국에 전래된 이후, 소상강 유역은 절경의 상징적 공간으로 인식되었다. 이러한 인식을 바탕으로 소상강은 작중인물의 주유공간으로 수용되었으며, 소상팔경에 대한 우울한 서정적 묘사를 이용하여 사로공간으로 변용되었다. 또한 소상강 유역과 관련된 역사전설을 바탕으로 이곳은 작중인물의 구원공간으로 수용되었으며, 작중인물의 억울한 처지를 부각시켜주기 위한 원령공간으로 변모되었다. 그리고 소상강 유역의 이상경적 이미지를 바탕으로, 이곳은 고전소설에서 탈속공간으로 수용되었으며, 여기에 풍수사상이 결합되어 길지공간으로 변용되었다. 이처럼 소상강은 고전소설에서 다양한 유형의 작중공간으로 활용되면서 작품구성에 기여하였다. 따라서 고전소설에 나타나는 소상강이라는 작중공간에 대한 논의는 보다 본격화될 필요가 있다. This study examined the various aspects of Sosang-river accepted as a major space in a story and how it is transformed. Since chinese 'Sosang palkyung do' has been passed down in Korea, the area of Sosang-river is perceived as a space of magnificent view. Based on this perception, it is accepted as a traveling space of character and transformed as a path to death in a play using gloomy lyrical description of 'Sosang Palkyung.' Also based on historical legend about the area of Sosang-river, it is accepted as a space to help character get out of the crisis and transformed as a space of revengeful spirit to emphasis character's undeserved mind. Based on the ideal image of Sosang-river, it is accepted as a space to be free from conventionality and combined Feng-sui Thought to this, it is used as a space of suspicious earth. Likewise, Sosang-river is utilized as various types of spaces in a story contributing to a composition of work. Therefore it is essential to discuss a space, Sosang-river used in lots of classical novels.

<심청전>에 등장하는 화주승의 인물유형과 변모양상

This study examined the transformation aspect and the character type of 'Hwajuseung' appeared in <Shimcheongjeon>. 'Hwajuseung' is embodied as the godhead existence, type of a Bodhisattva incarnate in the different version of <Shimcheongjeon>. And it is represented as an extraordinary monk who acts as a Bodhisattva, performing the order of a Bodhisattva or the revelation appeared in a dream. Also it is described as the type of charity monk who prepares the expense for a Buddhist service. 'Hwajuseung', the type of a Bodhisattva incarnate·monk acting as a Bodhisattva is transcendental existence and intervenes lots of affairs unlike charity monk. And according to the fact 'Hwajuseung', the type of a Bodhisattva incarnate·monk acting as a Bodhisattva shows only in the early stage of different version of <Shimcheongjeon>, we can know the buddhistic superhuman skill was weaken as well as the narrative function in the process of <Shimchengjeon> transmission. In this process, degraded phenomenon about 'Hwajuseung', the type of charity monk is strengthen in the later. 이 논문은 <심청전>에 등장하는 화주승의 인물유형과 변모양상을 고찰한 것이다. <심청전>의 이본에서 화주승은 보살화신 유형의 신격적 존재로 형상화되기도 하고, 불보살의 하명이나 현몽계시를 수행하는 보살 대행승 유형의 신통승으로 나타나기도 한다. 또한 화주승은 불사에 필요한 재원을 마련하기 위해 시주를 받던 세간의 시주승 유형의 승려로 그려지기도 한다. 보살화신‧보살 대행승 유형의 화주승은 시주승 유형의 화주승과는 달리 초세간적‧초탈적 존재이며, 심봉사 구출‧시주약속 대목에만 등장하는 시주승 유형의 화주승과는 달리 다수의 작중 사건에 개입한다. 그런데 보살화신‧보살 대행승 유형의 화주승이 <심청전>의 초기 이본에서만 그 모습을 드러내고 있다는 점으로 미루어 볼 때, <심청전>의 전승과정에서 화주승의 불교적 신이성이 점차 약화됨은 물론 서사적 기능이 축소되었음을 알 수 있다. 아울러 <심청전>의 전승과정에서 후대로 가면서 시주승 유형의 화주승에 대한 비속화 현상이 강화되는 변모양상도 나타난다.

<춘향전>의 팔선녀 수용과 그 의미

This study examined acceptance aspects and the meaning of Eight angels in <Chunhyangjeon>. Eight angels are accepted as a Korean authentic precedents to describe Chunhyang’s figure and the love with Lee Mong-ryong in <Chunhyanjeon>. This shows that Eight angels in <Kuunmong> are counted for typical taoist fairy and the love between Seong-jin and Eight angels is considered as our classic love story at that time. Eight angels in <Chunhyangjeon> are used as some names of Kisaeng or its description. Eight angles are accepted as a splendidly dressed up existence in <Chunhyangjeon> as well. Its specular change is the result of situations in the late of Chosun Dinasty that Eight angels are downgraded as Kisaeng. Gye Seom-wol is accepted frequently in <Chunhyangjeon>. It reflects the awareness of readers of <Chunhyangjeon> that identifies Chunhyang with Gye Seom-wol. In this connection Gye Seom-wol is often accepted as a lover of Yang So-yu. It is also included some reader’s expectations that Gye Seom-wol would be the most loved woman from Yang So-yu. 이 논문은 다수의 이본 자료를 바탕으로, <춘향전>에 나타난 팔선녀의 수용 양상과 거기에 담긴 의미를 살핀 것이다. <춘향전>에서 팔선녀는 조선 후기의 관습적 표현인 ‘춘풍석교 희롱’ 내용 외에도 춘향의 자태나 이도령과의 사랑을 비유적으로 표현하기 위한 우리식 전고로 빈번하게 활용되고 있다. 이를 통해 당시 대중에게 <구운몽>의 팔선녀는 우리의 전형적인 절색 선녀로, 팔선녀와 성진의 사랑은 우리의 대표적인 애정고사로 폭넓게 인식되었음을 알 수 있다. 또한 <춘향전>에서 팔선녀는 기생의 묘사나 기생의 이름에 활용되고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 기생들이 화려하게 분장한 색주가 여인의 형상으로 그려지기도 한다. 이러한 기생의 팔선녀화는 조선 후기에 팔선녀가 기생으로까지 통속화되었던 상황을 반영한 결과다. 한편 <춘향전>에는 <구운몽>의 팔부인 가운데 계섬월이 다수 수용되고 있다. 이는 기녀이면서도 절개를 지키기 위해 갖은 고초를 겪은 계섬월을 춘향과 동일화한 <춘향전> 향유층의 인식이 반영된 결과라 보아진다. 이로 인해 <춘향전>에서 계섬월은 팔부인 중 양소유의 대표적인 연인으로 자주 수용되는데, 여기에는 양소유의 처첩 가운데 계섬월이 가장 사랑 받는 여인이길 바라는 <춘향전> 향유층의 기대 심리가 내재되어 있다 하겠다.

‘어사 제수’ 대목의 변이에 담긴 <춘향전> 필사층의 의식

This study examined a feature of variation represented in a manuscript and consciousness of transcribers based on a differentiated aspect of secret royal inspector appoint scenes according to a different version. On secret royal inspector appoint scenes, a time for lad Lee to be selected as the secret royal inspector and the variation of its way originated from the early transmission. But in the manuscript, it shows the aspect is changed in a way of strengthening legitimacy of secret royal inspector selection capitalizing on a qualification that led Lee has as the secret royal inspector. The selection of lad Lee as a Jeolla secret royal inspector is made up of his volunteering or pay decision. However in the manuscript, factor of selection is modified from the reason above to his express willingness. It is the result of the transcriber's wish to make lad Lee much more active in Jeolla secret royal inspector selection. On secret royal inspector appoint scenes, a duty in charge of lad Lee is presented. An image of king which is sage and wise or of lad Lee which is loyal and faithful emphasized depending on a disparity of contents and main agents. According to the different version, lad Lee is embodied as a savior of the people. And it is only found in the manuscript. Secret royal inspector appoint scenes completed a farewell speech of lad Lee appointed as a secret royal inspector in most different versions. But in the manuscript, some emotional parts that express Lee's desire to meet Chunhyang again are attached to the paragraph. This variation is the result that reflects transcriber's thought of wishing him to be a humane character. 이 논문은 <춘향전>의 ‘어사 제수’ 대목이 이본에 따라 변이된 양상을 토대로, 필사본에 나타난 변이의 주요 특징과 거기에 담긴 필사층의 의식에 대해 고찰한 것이다. 어사 제수 대목에서 이도령이 어사로 선발되는 시점과 방식의 변이는 <춘향전> 전승의 초기부터 비롯되고 있다. 그런데 필사본에서는 창본이나 판각본 계통의 이본과는 달리 이도령이 초계를 통해 어사에 낙점되도록 선발 방식을 변개시키기도 하였다. 이는 이도령이 지닌 어사로서의 자격을 부각시켜 어사 선발의 정당성을 보다 강화하고자 하는 필사층의 의식에 따른 것으로 보아진다. 이도령의 전라어사 선정은 창본이나 판각본 계통의 이본의 경우, 임금의 결정이나 이도령의 어사 자원에 의해 이루어진다. 그런데 필사본에서는 전라어사가 되고자 하는 이도령의 의지 표명에 의해 어사 파견지가 선정되는 것으로 변모되기도 한다. 이는 춘향과의 재회를 위해 이도령이 전라어사 선정 과정에서 보다 자발적이고 적극적으로 관여해 주길 바라는 필사층의 의식이 반영된 결과다. 창본과 판각본 계통의 이본에서 이도령이 담당할 어사의 소임은 임금의 특지나 이도령의 상주를 통해 제시된다. 이를 통하여 임금의 성군적 이미지가 부각되기도 하고, 이도령의 충성스런 어사 이미지가 드러나기도 한다. 그런데 필사본에서는 이도령의 상주 내용을 통해 그를 민중 구원자의 형상으로 그려내기도 한다. 이러한 민중 구원자의 형상은 <춘향전>의 필사층이 바라던 이상적인 암행어사상을 투영한 것이다. 어사 제수 대목은 창본이나 판각본 계통의 이본에서는 대체로 어사에 임명된 이도령이 하직 숙배하는 단락으로 마무리된다. 그러나 필사본에서는 이 단락에 춘향과의 상봉을 기대하는 이도령의 감정 표출 부분이 덧붙여지기도 한다. 이러한 변이는 이도령이 인간미 넘치는 인물이길 바라는 <춘향전> 필사층의 의식이 만든 결과물이다.

고전소설에 수용된 숙향의 형상과 문학적 의미

이 논문은 고전소설에 수용된 숙향의 형상과 거기에 담긴 문학적 의미를 고찰한 것이다. 조선후기에 이 폭넓게 향유되면서 숙향은 다수의 고전소설 작품에 다양한 형상으로 개입되고 있다. 그 주요한 유형은 선녀·절색·비애·비련의 형상인데, 수용양상이 보여주는 두드러진 특징은 광범위성과 가변성이다. 고전소설에 수용된 숙향은 당대 향유층이 숙향을 초월적 존재와 비극적 존재로 인식하였고, 이러한 이원적 인식을 토대로 숙향 형상을 외적 묘사나 정서표현에 주로 활용하였음을 보여준다. 또한 고전소설의 숙향 수용을 통해 숙향의 고난에 대한 향유층의 의식을 살펴볼 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 내용이 고사로 정착·활용되었음을 알 수 있다. This study examined the form and the meaning of Sukhyang accepted in the classical novels. The latter of Choseon, was enjoyed and Sukhyang has intervened as various form in lots of classical novels. The important types are angel, the beauty, sorrow, tragic forms. The aspect of acceptance shows some major features that are a wide scope and variability. We can see that readers understood Sukhyang as a transcendental and tragic existence at that time through classical novels. With these recognitions, form of Sukhyang was used in external description and expression of emotion generally. Also through acceptance of Sukhyang in classical novels, we can know the consciousness of readers about the hardship of Sukhyang and can understand that was utilized as a ancient story
