이 논문은 어린이 독서 현상과 관련하여 볼 때 ‘문제적’ 텍스트 유형이라 할 수 있는 학습만화에 대해, 독자의 흥미와 몰입을 이끌어낼 수 있는 주요 특징인 독특한 스토리텔링 방식과 실제 학습만화의 독자인 어린이들의 반응에 관해 탐구함으로써, 독서 대상으로서의 학습만화의 가치와 교육적 활용의 시사점에 관해 논의한다. 논의 대상은 학습의 의도성이 보다 분명한 교양만화를 논의 대상으로 한정하였다. ‘지식·교양 만화’에 속하는『WHY? 시리즈』와 ‘학습 중심 서사만화’에 속하는 『살아남기 시리즈』를 선택하여, 공통된 주제를 다루고 있는 한 편 분량의 스토리텔링 방식을 분석하였으며, 이에 대한 어린이 독자의 반응에 대해 설문 조사를 통해 조사하였다. 연구 결과, 지식과 교양을 보다 쉽게 전달하기 위한 목적을 지닌 학습만화가 재미와 학습의 균형을 유지하기 위해 인물 설정과 이야기 구조를 적절히 활용하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 어린이 독자의 반응을 분석함으로써, 어린이들 스스로 학습만화의 장·단점을 상당히 정확히 파악하고 있다는 점도 알 수 있었으며, 그럼에도 불구하고 학습만화를 통해 관심을 갖게 된 분야에 대한 보다 심화된 독서 지도가 필요하다는 점 등의 시사점을 이끌어낼 수 있었다. This study sets out to investigate the storytelling of educational cartoons and the readers` responses, in order to explore the educational values of the genre. Educational cartoons have a unique storytelling mode to maintain balance between knowledge and fun. 『WHY? series』 and 『Survival series』, which deal with science, are examined as case studies of bestselling educational cartoons. The storytelling mode was analyzed in terms of the characteristics of character types(hero, professional and assistant) and of the narrative structure of explaining knowledge within an adventure story. The visual expressions of the characters were also analyzed. 244 elementary school children from Year 3 to Year 6 participated in the survey on their responses to educational cartoons. Main findings show that educational cartoons seem to work on scaffolding, expanding the scope of knowledge and motivating children for learning more about the subjects dealt with in the cartoons. Children seem to understand the cons and pros of educational cartoons in reading for knowledge. The study also suggests that children should be provided more in-depth reading materials, in order to learn more about the subjects dealt with in the educational cartoons.

In naval ships, pump machineries are the major sources of airborne and structure-borne noise. Noise is critical issue in ships not only it causes annoyance to crews, but also it can increase the underwater radiated noise, which is crucial in anti-submarine warfare. In present study, it is discussed the reduction of structure-borne noise of pump machineries by showing several examples. The most typical and effective solution is to use double resilient mount system. However, in cases where double resilient system cannot be applied due to space and weight increase, rubber pad can be used to reduce the structure-borne noise. In principle, the concept of structure-borne noise reduction is the same as that of vibration isolation.

This paper deals with the noise measurement and evaluation method of a reciprocating air-compressor and its noise reduction. Lead-wrapping techniques are employed to identify the contribution of principal noise sources which are generally known as motor, belts, suction/discharge valves, moving piston, and flow-induced noise which are caused by edges or discontinuities along the flow path e.g. expansions, contractions, junctions and bends. As a result, it can be found that main noise sources of the air-compressor can be categorized by the suction/discharge noise, valve noise, and compressed-air tank noise. Based on the investigations, mufflers are designed to reduce both the suction/discharge noise and the compressed-air tank noise. Instead of the conventional valve plate, engineering plastics are used as a new one for the reduction of valve impact noise. In addition, attempts are made to reduce the valve noise propagation to the cylinder head and the compressor tank by using the insulation casings in the cylinder head. As a result of the countermeasure plans, it can be achieved that the noise reduction of the air-compress is up to 10 dB.
