        The purpose of this study was to sum up some of current trends and issues which have been revealed importantly during the last two to three years in the field of the early childhood education in korea. For the last two years, the number of kindergarteners at 5-years old kindergarten were decreased continuously, comparing to the previous years, owing to IMF shock in the last 1997. However, some of progressive development could be accomplished, even in the gloomy circumstances of current years, keeping a few solicitous problems under the shadow of achievement. The followings, among the various accomplishment of the current education for young children, are considered as the most significant issues for the continuous development of this field; (1) Enactment of an act for promotion of the education for early childhood. (2) Remodeling of curriculum for the 6th kindergarten. (3) Some trials to reform the early childhood education into the publich schooling. (4) Some efforts to upgrade the quality of early childhood education, particularly the management of curriculum and education for teachers. The goal of this study, therefor, is to point out each progress of achievement and also lies in further analysis of the problems being considered as a factor of weakening such an achievements.

      • Reading과 관련된 Listening comprehension의 문제점 고찰

        The present paper is an attempt to analyze the types of difficulties which college freshmen learning English may experience with listening materials in the language laboratory. The basic assumptions here are (1) that college freshmen have already had six years of learning experience by the time they enter a college and acquired considerable proficiency in English, (2) that since their previous experience is mainly in written skills and almost none in listening, their listening abillity is frustratingly low compared with their relatively high reading ability, and (3) that if we admit that "reading is the process of transfer from sounds to written symbols" as Fries has said, this process of listening might be considered to be that of the transfer from written symbols to sounds. During the process some aspect of their previous experience in English may facillitate their listening comprehension in terms of grammar and vocabulary, but other aspects such as incorrect pronunciation and wrong reading habits may interfere with the development of oral skills in English. The procedures followed in the analysis are: The setting up of the hypotheses <Chapter Ⅱ>. The construction of tests based on the hypotheses. and the administration of the test to a group of freshmen at Sookmyung Wemen's University chosen at random <Chapter Ⅲ>, and the analysis and interpretation of the results of the test a copy of which will be found at the end of the present paper. The six hypotheses are the following: 1. Listening comprehension may be low when students cannot distinguish English sounds at both the phonemic and the allophonic levels. 2. Listening comprehension may be low when students have acquired incorrect pronunciations of English words through reading. 3. Listening comprehension may be low when numbers and dates are presented orally in English. 4. Listening comprehension may be low when individual words are blended in phrases and sentences. 5. Listening comprehension may be low when students are not thoroughly familiar with basic sentence patterns. 6. Listening comprehension may be low when sentences are long or structurally complicated. In conclusion, the results of the test validate the above mentioned hypotheses on the whole, and the students' proficiency which has been acquired mainly through reading seems to facilitate their listening. Their exclusive experience with written scripts, however, cause peculiar types of difficulties on the other hand. Presented in the degree of sericusness, they are difficulties in blending, the most serious, with numbers and dates, followed by wrong pronunciation acquired through reading, and with phoneme distinction, the least sericus, which however, constitutes a problem because after one semester's systematic practice, our students still have difficulties in this area.

        韓國文學에 나타난 傳統的 女性像 : 敍事文學을 中心으로 한 通時的 硏究 A Diachronic Approach to Narrative Literature

        This study is to find out traditional woman type in Korean literature by a diachronic approach. Considering that traditional concepts contained stability and change ability, this study pursued both stable woman type and changeable woman type in Korean literature. With a hypothesis that the further into the ancient times with no foreign influence, the more similar to the proto-woman the type is, and a critical theory of mythology that a myth has a proto-type retaining the mass unconsciousness of a race, Woong-nyo in Dan-goon Shin Hwa was considered as a proto-woman type of literature. In order to overcome the limitation of the proto-type theory (i.e. the simplification of the type); besides the mythic woman, Woong-nyo, who shows N. Fry's oneness frame of self or the `I', Tiger in Dana-goon Shin Hwa also was considered as a negative proto-woman type, and thought it is Woong-nyo's reflection based on psychology. The reason why stability as well as changeability of the positive and the negative woman type is that the proto-type has changed in different times, based on the historical consciousness by C.G. Jung and T. S. Eliot. Focusing on narrative literature, the folk tales of the three Kingdoms, the novels of Yi Dynasty and Modern Times. The conclusion is as follows: The revelation of the stability of the proto-type: i) The Era of the Three Kingdoms: the type of Queen Sun-duk the type of Moon-hoe the type of Mrs. Soo-roh the type of Do-mee's wife ii) The Era of Yi Dynasty: the type of Choon-hyang the type of Mrs. Park the type of Kyung-paethe type of Shim Chung the type of Mrs. Jung iii) Modern Times: the type of the revelation of motherhood the type of self-realization the type of the revelation of womanhood The stable woman types was divided into the two groups: the positive woman type (type of Woong-nyo), the negative woman type (the type of Tiger). Since Woong-nyo's unconscious revelation (i.e. her reflection) is the type of Tiger, which have revealed constantly. The revelation of the changeability of the proto-type: i) The Era of the three Kingdoms: the type with Confucian morality among the type of Do-ynee the type with faith and supplication among the type of maid Ook-m.yon ii) The Era of Yi Dynasty: the type of virtue among the type of Choon-hyang the type of helping husband among the type of Mrs. Park the type of a good wife among the type of hyung_Pa the type of a filial daughter among the type of .Shim Chung the type of a wise mother among the type of Mrs. .lung These types-show the coexistence of the proto-type and the changed one. iii) Modern Times: the type of changing old fatal sacrifice the type of self-control for life the type of unconciousness with immorality and vanity In the case of changeability, the types of Woong-nyo and Tiger have changed their natures under the influence of Buddhism or Confucianism or modernization. The type of Woong-nyo had the following natures: activeness, positivity, patience, motherhood (birth, generosity. the instinct of nurture and protection, the function of foresight, waiting eternity, supplication), morality, peacefulness. The type of Tiger had the following natures: activeness, positivity, impatience, escapism resistance, negative motherhood (exclusive possession, the desire for ruling, disagreement, betrayal). Therefore the two types have shown heir natures in Korean literature and their basis is the proto-type even if the nature of the prcto-type have changed under the influence of the chance of times. In conclusion, the traditional woman type in Korean literature is the type of Woong-nyo containing the natures of activeness, positivity, morality and peacefulness, which eras based on motherhood. Tiger, the negative type, existed in literature only for the prominence of Woong-nyo What is more, we recommend the women of Yi Dynasty a s the traditional woman type. The reason is that the type of Yi Dynasty is only the changed one of the proto-type. In short, the women of Yi Dynasty considered as the: traditional woman type is the changed form of the proto type.

        사회극놀이를 통한 다문화 교육활동이 유아의 사회적 능력에 미치는 효과

        This study was to analyze effects of multicultural education activities connected with social play activities on children's social skills. In order to achieve this purpose, the following research questions were established. Research question 1 : Does multicultural education activities connected with social play activities have an effect on the improving social skills?In order to achieve this purpose, this study composed multicultural education activities connected with social play activities through literature for social play and multicultural education activities. The concrete results of this study were:Multicultural education activities connected with social play activities was effective in improving social skills. There were great educational effect that when the multicultural education activities connected with social play activities applies to all of children the common families and multicultural families and so all of children should be constructed and applied. There were believed that children's social behaviors was improved by learning value of multicultural on cultural, language, ethnicities, country must be respected through talking activities based of knowledge rather than the multicultural program based of experience and process. 이 연구는 사회극놀이를 통한 다문화교육활동을 구성·적용하여 사회적 능력에 미치는 효과를 탐색하는데 주안점을 두었다. 구체적인 연구목적은 첫째, 사회극놀이를 통한 다문화교육활동이 유아의 사회적 적응능력에 미치는 효과를 밝히고 둘째, 사회극놀이를 통한 다문화교육활동이 유아의 사회적 순응능력에 미치는 효과를 밝히는데 있다. 연구대상은 만 5세 유아로 실험집단 60명(일반가정유아 50명, 다문화가정유아 10명), 비교집단 60명 전체 120명을 실험연구하였다. 실험자극도구 프로그램은 사회극놀이를 통한 다문화교육활동으로 선행관련문헌과 교육과정 내용을 참고하여 체계적이고 구조화된 전개방법으로 과제별 내용을 사전, 본시 2단계, 확장활동 4단계로 구성하여 적용하였다. 이 연구에서 구성된 다문화교육활동은 유치원 교육과정 속에서 반영하고 통합적으로 구성하여 적용함으로써 유아교육에서 이루어져야 할 다문화교육의 방향을 제시하였다는 점에서 학문적인 의의가 있다고 사료된다. 이 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 사회극놀이를 통한 다문화교육활동은 유아의 사회적 능력 향상(사회적 적응능력, 사회적 순응능력)에 긍정적인 효과를 미친다. 다문화교육활동은 대상을 분리하여 실시하기보다는 일반가정 유아 및 다문화가정 유아 모두에게 적용하였을 때 교육적 효과가 크므로 전유아를 대상으로 구성․적용되어야 한다. 또한 지식위주의 이야기나누기 교육활동 보다는 체험중심, 과정중심 다문화교육프로그램을 통하여 유아들이 자신의 문화․언어․인종․국가와 같은 다문화적 가치를 존중해야 함을 배움으로써 유아들의 사회적 행동이 증진될 것으로 여겨진다. 지면관계상 다문화교육프로그램을 구체적으로 제시하지 못하였으나 교육현장에서 유용하게 활용할 수 있을 것이다.

        Although the syllable has been mentioned as a significant unit in phonological studies, there is no agreed definition of this unit larger than the segment and smaller than the word, and no formal means of referring to it as a unit. Recently there arose attempts to define the syllable formally by rules and prove it a useful unit in linguistic description. Kahn among them tried to establish a thery of syllabic phonology. He defined syllable structures by applying syllable structure assignment rules, setting up a new tier, the syllable tier, other than the segmental tier. He justified formally the recognition of the syllable in phonological theory by discussing a large number of phonological processes of English. The purpose of this paper is to make a study on the syllable according to Kahn's theory of syllabic phonology and show the superiority of nonlinear description over the linear approach in phonological description. In the first chapter, definition and uses of the syllable as a phonological unit are observed. In Chapter 2, universal svllabication rules and syllable structure assignment rules are examined along with syllable structure constraints. In Chapter 3, some of the phonological processes of English such as aspiration, glotalization and flapped/t/are discussed, and finally, advantages of syllabic phonology, especially of Kahn's theory are mentioned in the last chapter.
