鳥取大學 蒜山演習林內의 60년생 졸참나무 임분안에 생육하고 있는 60년된 떡갈나무 한 그루로부터 자연 결실된 종자를 1981년에 채취하여 鳥取大學 시험포지에 식재하고 이들 중 2003년에 생육상태가 양호한 17본을 선정하여 이들의 일과 열매를 재취하여 잎, 털, 과실의 특징을 조사하였다. 17본 중에서 14본은 떡갈나무의 특징이었고, 3본은 떡속소리나무의 특징을 나타냈는데, 이중 떡속소리나무형 3개체의 잎은 떡갈나무 잎보다 작고 엽정 및 거치의 엽연이 뽀족하였다. 업병율과 기치밀도는 떡갈나무와 졸참나무의 중간 수치였고, 잎 뒷면은 성상모가 밀생하었는데 이 길이는 떡갈나무와 졸참나무의 증간정도인 것이 많았지만 졸참나무에서 볼 수 있는 소형성상모와 떡갈나무형의 대형성상모가 혼생함을 확인할 수 있었다. 위와 같은 특징을 근간으로 떡속소리형의 3개체는 떠갈나무와 졸참나무와의 자연교배에 의한 잡종으 판단된다. Open pollinated seeds were collected from one tree of Quercus dentata growing with middle-aged stands of Q. serrata in the Hiruzen Experimental Forest of the Tottori University, and 17 seedlings were planted in the experimental plot. The leaves and acorns from 22year old tree were collected, and their characters were investigated. From the characters of leaves, hairs and acorns, 14 trees were the type of Q. dentata which 3 trees, the type of Q. fabri. The leaves of the type of Q. fabri were smaller than those of Q. dentata, and the leaf apex and serration was tended to be sharp. The petiolate rate and serration density were intermediate between Q. dentata and Q. serrata. The stellate hair grew thick on the back of leaves. The length of the ray of stellate hairs was mostly middle length between Q. dentata and Q. serrata. From these characteristics, it was concluded that the trees of the type of Q. fabri must be natural hybrids breeded by the pollination of Q. serrata.

The difference in leaf bud flushing times of Quercus species and their hybrids was compared among the trees from natural forest, seedlings from natural pollination and artificial crossing. In the natural forest of the Hiruzen experimental forest of Tottori University, Japan, Quercus species flushed in the order of Q. crispula $gt; Q. anguste-lepidota $gt; Q. takatorensis ≒ Q. serrate $gt; Q. dentate. The flushing time of seedlings from natural pollination was in the order of Q. aliena ≒ Q. crispula $gt; Q. angustelepidota $gt; Q. takatorensis ≒ Q. serrate $gt; Q. dentate. The flushing times of F₁ hybrids by artificial crossing were between those of parental species. From the result of interspecific hybridization, it is shown that the earliness of flushing in Quercus species is a genetic character considered hereditable to progenies.
