지역 R&D의 발전을 통한 지역발전 전략의 가능성을 서부경남지역의 사례를 중심으로 검토하는 것이 이 논문의 주된 내용이다 서부경남 지역 산업 중 진주의 기계산업은 다소 발전하였다고 볼 수 있고, 사전은 우리나라 우주항공산업의 중심지이다. 하지만 전체적으로 보아서는 대체로 낙후된 수준이며, 여전히 농업인구가 많다 서부경남의 R&D 역량은 진주와 사전지역에 거의 집중되어 있으며, 지역 산업체의 요구를 충족시키기에는 크게 부족하다고 할 수 없다. 지역 R&D역량 강화는 즉각적으로는 대학에서의 역량 강화에 크게 의존해야 하는데, 현재 가용한 대학 내의 R&D 역량의 최대한 발현을 위해서는 연구단위 및 대학 전체에서의 리더십의 역할이 중요함을 역설하였다. The possibility of the regional development strategy through regional R&D is reviewed with special reference to western GyeongNam Province. On the whole the level of regional industry in western GyeongNam Province is somewhat backward and the proportion of agrarian population is higher than the national average, though machine industry in Jinju city is a bit developed and Sacheon city is the center of space-aero industry in Korea. R&D manpower in this region is concentrated in Jinju and Sacheon city, especially at local universities. It is estimated that much of local industrial needs for R&D could be met with this region’s R&D capacities. For the strengthening of R&D capabilities of universities, the importance of leadership power in research units and whole university is emphasized.

2007년 경상대학교 학생들을 대상으로 40개 직업의 위세에 대한 평가를 조사하였다. 직업 대분류 상으로 전문직, 관리직이 상층을 차지하며, 준전문직, 중간관리직이 그 다음 층을 이룬다. 사무직과 여러 직종의 자영층이 그 아래층에 위치하며, 생산직과 하급 서비스직 및 판매직이 하층부를 이룬다. 이런 조사 결과는 2001년의 진주시민 조사와도 비슷하며, 2005년 KGSS의 전국조사 결과와도 아주 흡사하다. 트라이만의 국제표준직업위세척도와의 비교를 통해 오히려 2001년 조사에 비해 더 높은 정도의 상관관계를 확인하였다. 급격하게 보이는 경제 사회적 변화에도 직업 구조의 강한 안정성을 다시 확인한다.

사회적 경제와 사회적 가치- 경상남도에서의 활동에 주목하면서

The recent increase in interest in the social economy could be understood in terms of situations in which the economic depression cannot be resolved through political upheaval. This pater examines the discussion on social economy and social values through various documents and legislation. I have argued that the activation of the social economy is ultimately the key to realizing social values i n all sectors of society. In order to revitalize the social economy in our society, I point out that it is important to nurture new social economic organizations and to make existing organizations pursue social values, and in addition there is a need to pay close attention to organizations that already have existed as social economy organizations. The activation of the social economy suggests that it can be an important apparatus not only to alleviate the problems raised by the capitalist economic system, but also to find alternatives. 최근의 사회적 경제에 대한 관심의 증대를 경제위기를 정치적 격변을 통해서는 해소할 수 없는 상황과 관련하여 이해하려고 하였다. 사회적 경제와 사회적 가치에 대한 논의를 여러 문헌들과 법안들을 통해 살피고, 사회적 경제의 활성화는 결국 사회 모든 부문에서 사회적 가치를 실현하는 것이 핵심임을 주장하였다. 우리 사회에서의 사회적 경제 활성화를 위해서는 새로운 사회적 경제 조직의 육성과 함께 기존의 조직체들이 사회적 가치를 추구하게끔 하는 노력도 중요함을 지적하고, 실질적으로 사회적 경제 조직으로 활동하는 조직체에도 주목할 필요가 있음을 지적하면서, 경남의 한 예술공동체를 사례로 들었다. 사회적 경제의 활성화는 단순히 자본주의 경제 체제가 제기하는 문제점을 완화하는 수준이 아니라 대안을 모색하는 중요한 과정이 될 수 있음을 시사하였다.

With regard to the class location of white collar workers, six theories of middle class are reviewed. They include the new working class theory, the Professional-Managerial Class of the Ehrenreichs, PCF's intermediate strata theory, the new petty bourgeosie theory of N. Poulantzas, E.O.Wright's contradictory class location theory, and G.Carchedi's new middle class theory. Carchedi's theorizing seems to more promising despite some theorical shortcomings, so that it could be a good starting point for further development of class analysis. Thus white collar workers might be decomposed into the working class and the new middle class according to the social and technical characteristics of jobs. For proper understanding of the class composition, the following facets should be considered: the capitalist relation of production, the capitalist process of production, the capitalist process of reproduction and the historical tendencies. Also, future prospects of the concepts such as boundary strata within classes and patterns of class trajectories are briefly suggested.
