Influence of Korean Celebrity Endorsement on Chinese Consumers' Purchase Intention towards Fashion Goods

( Yu Hua Cui ),( Yu Ling Bai ) 한국패션비즈니스학회 2020 패션 비즈니스 Vol.24 No.6

Korean celebrity endorsement is a common practice adopted by companies in China. This study assessed the impact of celebrity endorsement (trustworthiness, attractiveness, congruency, and expertise) on Chinese consumers’ intention to purchase clothes endorsed by Korean celebrities. This study used reliability and validity tests and structural equation model analysis to explore the relationship between variables using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. This study conducted an online survey (www.sojump.com) from August 10, 2020 to August 20, 2020 and collected 370 respondents. Results show that all constructs of celebrity endorsement positively affected purchase intention and that celebrity expertise had the strongest impact. With respect to the influence of demographic variables on the constructs, gender, age, and education had a significant effect on trustworthiness; gender and age had a significant effect on attractiveness; and income had an effect on purchase intention. Marketing executives should consider using Korean celebrities for different purposes in brand advertising. Particularly, celebrity expertise, such as experience, knowledge, and skills, should receive attention while publicizing to Chinese consumers. This study contributes to the academic and practical implications of Korean celebrity endorsement.

      • Association of a Pre-miR-27a Polymorphism with Cancer Risk: an Updated Meta-analysis

        Bai, Rong-Pan,Weng, Yu,Su, Li-Ling,Jin, Ming-Juan,Xu, Zheng-Ping,Lu, Li-Qin,Chen, Guang-Di Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.23

MicroRNA-27a is highly expressed in cancers and has been identified as an oncogenic microRNA. A genetic variant in pre-miR-27a (rs895819) with a transition of A to G has been demonstrated to be associated with cancer risk; however, the results of these studies remain conflicting rather than conclusive. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to derive a more precise estimation. Through searching PubMed or other databases up to March 2014 using the following MeSH terms and keywords, "miR-27a", "polymorphism" and "cancer", seventeen case-control studies were identified in this meta-analysis, including 7,813 cases and 9,602. Crude odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated to investigate the association strength between rs895819 and the susceptibility of cancer. The results of the overall meta-analysis did not suggest any association between rs895819 polymorphism and cancer susceptibility, and this remained in Asians as a subgroup. In Caucasians, however, the rs895819 was associated with a reduced cancer risk in heterozygous (OR, 0.83; 95%CI, 0.75-0.93) and dominant models (OR, 0.84; 95%CI, 0.76-0.93), and the [G] allele of rs895819 showed a protective effect (OR, 0.90, 95%CI, 0.84-0.97). Further studies showed a significant association between the [G] allele of rs895819 and decreased risk of breast cancer (0.91; 95%CI, 0.85-0.98), and stratified analyses indicated a protective effect of the [G] allele in Caucasians (OR, 0.89; 95%CI, 0.82-0.98), younger breast cancer cases (OR, 0.87; 95%CI, 0.79-0.96), and in the group of unilateral breast cancer patients (OR, 0.90; 95%CI, 0.83-0.97). These findings suggest an association between pre-miR-27a polymorphism rs895819 and cancer risk in Caucasians. The protective effect of rs895819 [G] allele in younger breast cancer and in the group of unilateral breast cancer patients await further confirmation since the included studies in this meta-analysis were limited.

Exploring the Relationships between Regret, Dissatisfaction, and Repurchase Intention of Fashion Goods

( Yu Hua Cui ),( Yu Ling Bai ) 한국패션비즈니스학회 2021 패션 비즈니스 Vol.25 No.6

In the current economic downturn, it is easy for consumers to be emotional and regret their fashion product purchases. The purpose of this paper was to understand the effect of customer regret on the dissatisfaction and repurchase intention of fashion consumers in China, which is the world's largest fashion trading country. A total of 275 participants were recruited from a Chinese online survey system (www.sojump.com). The SPSS 22.0 statistical package was used for various data analyses. This study conceptualized the positive relationship between customer regret and dissatisfaction and the negative relationship between dissatisfaction and the repurchase intention of fashion goods. The findings indicated that customer regret could be categorized into two distinct types, chosen and forgone regrets. Chosen regret had a greater effect than forgone regret on dissatisfaction. The negative influence of dissatisfaction on repurchase intention was weak in consumers with a high level of regret-solving effort. The results of this study will help fashion businesses retain their customers, thus gaining long-term and repurchase economic value for the fashion industry.

Empirical Study of Chinese Consumers Perception-Attitude-Behavior in Clothes Rental Platform

( Yu Hua Cui ),( Yu Ling Bai ) 한국패션비즈니스학회 2019 패션 비즈니스 Vol.23 No.6

This paper aims to stretch the technology acceptance model (TAM) approach by investigating a clothes rental network. One of the understudied geographies of the world economy is the large-scale international trade in clothes, which are consumed by Chinese consumers. An online (www.sojump.com) survey was conducted by including 303 Chinese respondents. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the proposed hypothesis. The results indicated that external influence has a significant impact on the perceived ease of rental. Furthermore, consumers’ perceived ease of rental influences the attitude towards renting, and perceived ease of rental plays a complete mediating role between them. However, external influence has no significant impact on perceived usefulness, and consumers’ perceived usefulness has no impact on rental intention. In addition, attitude towards renting works as an indispensable mediation between perception and behavior. This study highlights the role of perception, attitude, behavior on clothes rental, and provides guidance and suggestions for clothes rental platform.

tae-miR9674a, a microRNA member of wheat, confers plant drought and salt tolerance through modulating the stomata movement and ROS homeostasis

        Wang Ling,Bai Xinyang,Qiao Yuanjinzi,Si Lili,Yu Zidi,Ni Chenyang,Li Tianjiao,Guo Chengjin,Xiao Kai 한국식물생명공학회 2023 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.17 No.4

The members of the microRNA (miRNA) family exert essential roles in modulating plant growth and development as well as responses to diverse stresses, through negatively regulating their target genes at posttranscriptional or translational levels. In this study, we characterized taemiR9674a, a miRNA member in T. aestivum, in mediating plant responses to drought and salt stresses. Seven genes in total were predicted to act as the targets of tae-miR9674a via modulation of transcript cleavage. The transcripts of tae-miR9674a in roots and leaves were response to both stresses of drought and salt, displaying to be gradually upregulated following the progression of a 27-h regime of above stress treatments. The transgenic tobacco lines of tae-miR9674a exhibited modified growth traits under drought and salt treatments. Of these, the line with miRNA overexpression (i.e., Sen 1) improved drastically on plant biomass, leaf area, and root length, whereas that with its knockdown expression (Anti 1) significantly alleviated on above growth traits compared with wild type. The modified stress responses of tae-miR9674a were shown to be closely associated with the role of miRNA in regulating a suite of physiological parameters, of which Sen 1 displayed improved osmotic stress defensive-related traits, such as fastened stomata closing rate, increased leaf water retention capacity, enhanced osmolytes contents, and elevated antioxidant enzyme (AE) activities. The expression of NtP5CS1 involving proline biosynthesis and NtFeSOD, NtCAT1 and NtPOD4, the AE genes involved in modulating ROS homeostasis, was upregulated in Sen 1 upon drought and salt stresses, suggesting their involvement in miRNA-mediated plant drought and salt responses. Transcriptome analysis indicated that tae-miR9674a leads to modified expression of quantities of genes that functionally associate with GO terms “biological process”, “cellular component”, and “molecular function”, which are overrepresented by the biochemical pathways of phytohormones (i.e., ethylene and jasmonic acid), salt response, salt/drought osmotic stress response through abscisic acid-dependent pathway and reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis. Our investigation suggested that tae-miR9674a is an essential mediator in plant osmotic stress tolerance by positively regulating osmotic stress acclimation, cellular ROS homeostasis, and related defensive processes.

Antioxidant activity and metabolic regulation of sodium salicylate on goat sperm at low temperature

        Shen Wenzheng,Fu Yu,Bai Haiyu,Zhang Zhiyu,Cao Zhikun,Liu Zibo,Yang Chao,Sun Shixin,Wang Lei,Ren Chunhuan,Ling Ying-hui,Zhang Zi Jun,Cao Hongguo 아세아·태평양축산학회 2024 Animal Bioscience Vol.37 No.4

Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of sodium salicylate (SS) on semen preservation and metabolic regulation in goats. Methods: Under the condition of low temperature, SS was added to goat semen diluent to detect goat sperm motility, plasma membrane, acrosome, antioxidant capacity, mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and metabonomics. Results: The results show that at the 8th day of low-temperature storage, the sperm motility of the 20 μM SS group was 66.64%, and the integrity rates of the plasma membrane and acrosome were both above 60%, significantly higher than those of the other groups. The activities of catalase and superoxide dismutase in the sperm of the 20 μM SS group were significantly higher than those of the control group, the contents of reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde were significantly lower than those in the control group, the MMP was significantly higher than that in the control group, and the contents of Ca2+ and total cholesterol were significantly higher than those in the control group. Through metabonomics analysis, there were significant metabolic differences between the control group and the 20 μM SS group. Twenty of the most significant metabolic markers were screened, mainly involving five metabolic pathways, of which nicotinic acid and nicotinamide metabolic pathways were the most significant. Conclusion: The results indicate that SS can effectively improve the low-temperature preservation quality of goat sperm.

      • Verification of the Correlation between Progression-free Survival and Overall Survival Considering Magnitudes of Survival Post-progression in the Treatment of Four Types of Cancer

Liu, Li-Ya,Yu, Hao,Bai, Jian-Ling,Zeng, Ping,Miao, Dan-Dan,Chen, Feng Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.3

Background: With development and application of new and effective anti-cancer drugs, the median survival post-progression (SPP) is often prolonged, and the role of the median SPP on surrogacy performance should be considered. To evaluate the impact of the median SPP on the correlation between progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), we performed simulations for treatment of four types of cancer, advanced gastric cancer (AGC), metastatic colorectal cancer (MCC), glioblastoma (GBM), and advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (ANSCLC). Materials and Methods: The effects of the median SPP on the statistical properties of OS and the correlation between PFS and OS were assessed. Further, comparisons were made between the surrogacy performance based on real data from meta-analyses and simulation results with similar scenarios. Results: The probability of a significant gain in OS and HR for OS was decreased by an increase of the SPP/OS ratio or by a decrease of observed treatment benefit for PFS. Similarly, for each of the four types of cancer, the correlation between PFS and OS was reduced as the median SPP increased from 2 to 12 months. Except for ANSCLC, for which the median SPP was equal to the true value, the simulated correlation between PFS and OS was consistent with the values derived from meta-analyses for the other three kinds of cancer. Further, for these three types of cancer, when the median SPP was controlled at a designated level (i.e., < 4 months for AGC, < 12 months for MCC, and <6 months for GBM), the correlation between PFS and OS was strong; and the power of OS reached 34.9% at the minimum. Conclusions: PFS is an acceptable surrogate endpoint for OS under the condition of controlling SPPs for AGC, MCC, and GBM at their limit levels; a similar conclusion cannot be made for ANSCLC.

Causes, Features, and Outcomes of Drug-Induced Liver Injury in 69 Children from China

( Yun Zhu ),( Yong Gang Li ),( Jia Bo Wang ),( Shu Hong Liu ),( Li Fu Wang ),( Yan Ling Zhao ),( Yun Feng Bai ),( Zhong Xia Wang ),( Jian Yu Li ),( Xiao He Xiao ) 대한소화기학회 2015 Gut and Liver Vol.9 No.4

Background/Aims: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a frequent cause of pediatric liver disease; however, the data on DILI are remarkably limited. Methods: All 69 children hospitalized with DILI between January 2009 and December 2011 were retrospectively studied. Results: A total of 37.7% of the children had medical histories of respiratory infection. The clinical injury patterns were as follows: hepatocellular 89.9%, cholestatic 2.9%, and mixed 7.2%. Liver biopsies from 55 children most frequently demonstrated chronic (47.3%) and acute (27.3%) hepatitis. Hypersensitivity features, namely, fever (31.9%), rash (21.7%), and eosinophilia (1.4%), were found. Twenty-four children (34.8%) developed chronic DILI. Antibiotics (26.1%) were the most common Western medicines (WMs) causing DILI, and the major implicated herbs were Ephedra sinica and Polygonum multiflorum. Compared with WM, the children whose injuries were caused by Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) showed a higher level of total bilirubin (1.4 mg/dL vs 16.6 mg/dL, p=0.004) and a longer prothrombin time (11.8 seconds vs 17.3 seconds, p=0.012), but they exhibited less chronic DILI (2/15 vs 18/39, p=0.031). Conclusions: Most cases of DILI in children are caused by antibiotics or CHM used to treat respiratory infection and present with hepatocellular injury. Compared with WM, CHM is more likely to cause severe liver injury, but liver injury caused by CHM is curable. (Gut Liver 2015;9:525-533)
