Jo,Man-Hyun,Ham,In-Ki,Park,Sang-Kyu,Seo,Gwan-Seok,Han,Gyu-Heung,Woo,In-Shik 한국자원식물학회 2003 Plant Resources Vol.6 No.2
Allium wakegi Araki was grown at plant spacings of 5, 10, 15, and 20 cm to determine the effect of planting density on the growth and yield. Allium wakegi Araki plants grown at the 5 cm plant spacing had the lowest bulb diameter and bulb weight, while plants at the lowest density (20 cm spacing) had the highest bulb diameter, bulb number, bulb weight and fresh weight. In general, plants grown at narrower spacings produced significantly smaller bulb diameter and bulb weight, but resulted in the highest yields and plants per hectare and lower fresh weights per plant.

This study was conducted to develop the clonal propagation technique through in vitro culture using basal stem explants in Phalaenopsis hybrid grown in vitro. The highest frequency of protocorm-like body (PLB) formation was obtained when basal stem explants were cultured on VW medium containing 30g/L sucrose, 500 mg/L activated charcoal, 150 ml/L coconut water, 1 mg/L NAA, 5 mg/L 2iP and 2.5g/L gel rite. PLBs transferred to Hyponex medium were regenerated to plantlets. Plantlets transferred to plastic pots containing spagnum moss were developed and successfully acclimatized under greenhouse. The flower was bloomingly opened in plants regenerated from basal stem explants. The flower was not different from both mother plant and plant induced through clonal propagation of Phalaenopsis hybrid.

<P>Nurr1 is a transcription factor specific for the development and maintenance of the midbrain dopamine (DA) neurons. Exogenous Nurr1 in neural precursor (NP) cells induces the differentiation of DA neurons in vitro that are capable of reversing motor dysfunctions in a rodent model for Parkinson disease. The promise of this therapeutic approach, however, is unclear due to poor cell survival and phenotype loss of DA cells after transplantation. We herein demonstrate that Nurr1 proteins undergo ubiquitin-proteasome-system-mediated degradation in differentiating NP cells. The degradation process is activated by a direct Akt-mediated phosphorylation of Nurr1 proteins and can be prevented by abolishing the Akt-target sequence in Nurr1 (Nurr1Akt). Overexpression of Nurr1Akt in NP cells yielded DA neurons in which Nurr1 protein levels were maintained for prolonged periods. The sustained Nurr1 expression endowed the Nurr1Akt-induced DA neurons with resistance to toxic stimuli, enhanced survival, and sustained DA phenotypes in vitro and in vivo after transplantation.</P>

<P>The current decay of High temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet is larger than that of low temperature superconducting (LTS) magnet due to its lower n-value and higher joint resistance. To compensate the current decay in HTS magnet, various power supplies have been required. From this reason, as an option of power supply for HTS magnet, we have proposed a flux pump with heater trigger switch. In this paper, a performance and experimental analysis on a transformer type flux pump were presented. Characteristics of pumping rates with respect to change in the temperature and sequential timing of the heater-triggered switch were investigated. As well as, the pumping rates were carried out in the charging mode. Furthermore, the compensating actions were carried out in the persistent current mode using a feedback control unit.</P>

Sung Jai Park,Kwang-Soo Baek,김현섭,Byeong-Soon Jeon,Tai-Young Her,Hyun-Joo Lim,Seok-Jin Kang,Hyun-June Lee,Woon-Mo Jo,김상범,Young-Hun Jung,Byeong-Seog Ahn 사단법인 한국동물생명공학회 2009 Reproductive & developmental biology Vol.33 No.3
The purpose of this study was to assess for re-breeding concentrate period in postpartum in milking cows. The 48 cows aged 3.5~5.5 years and of 400~600 kg body weight were examined every 3rd day from 15 to 36 day postpartum. Blood samples for progesterone and estradiol 17 β hormone analyses were withdrawn from the coccygeal vein every third day until the end of the experiment. The ovarian follicular numbers were verified and measured using a multi frequency probe. The least squares means are presented for each day by GLM of SAS. The results showed that ovary lengths (right ovary; 1.64±0.62 cm, left ovary; 1.44±0.46 cm) were similar in right and left ovary activity level during estrous cycle of postpartum cows. We were judged completed uterus on day at 2.31±0.17 cm level of cervix diameter. And we were monitoring started at 6.44±2.03 cm from day 15 after postpartum. The results showed that mean plasma concentration of progesterone (3.28 ng/ml) in large follicle gradually increased days 30 in postpartum. And, monitoring of estradiol 17β (22.18 pg/ml) hormone during postpartum period would be useful to predict the ovarian and uterus activity for re-breeding in postpartum milking cows. From these results, we conclude that cervix diameter (mean: 2.31 cm) was very important for reproductive organ recovery standard level of postpartum milking cows, hormone secretion level (P4: 3.28 ng/ml, E2: 22.18 pg/ml) and body condition score (2.5~2.75) level about 30 days in postpartum period.

Background : Some of invasive plants, which were introduced from foreign countries, have caused problems in Korea. Invasion of these invasive plants in the ecosystem threatens the habitat of endemic species, reducing biodiversity, and causing a disturbance in the ecological system. Hypochaeris radicata L. (Asteraceae), the most invasive plants in Korea, particularly in Jeju Island, invade farmland, and autochthonous forest, establishing monocultures and modifying the ecosystem structure. This invasive species has become a serious environmental problem because they displace the indigenous plant species. This study was conducted to evaluate the antioxidantive effects of ethanolic extracts from different parts (root, stem, seed and leaf) of the invasive exotic species Hypochaeris radicata L. Methods and Results : The aim of present study was to estimate the total phenolic and flavonoid contents and to investigate in vitro antioxidant potential of ethanolic leaf, root, seed, and stem extracts of the Hypochaeris radicata. Antioxidant activity was assessed by using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) assay, reducing power activity, [2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)] ABTS+ assay and ferrous ion chelating activity. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were also determined and expressed in gallic acid and quercetin equivalent respectively. The results of the study indicate that the ethanolic extracts of the leaf, root, seed, and stem of H. radicata posses significant scavenging activity against DPPH (21.25% for leaf, 34.98% for root, 60.76% for seed and 45.25% for stem at 250 μg/ml each) and ABTS+ radical scavenging activity (14.85% for leaf, 17.40% for root, 35.91% for seed and 24.70% for stem at 250 μg/ml each), reducing power activity (0.178 absorbance at 300 μg/ml for leaf, 0.211 absorbance at 300 μg/ml for root, 0.447 absorbance at 300 μg/ml for seed, 0.276 absorbance at 300 μg/ml for stem). The free radical scavenging and antioxidant activities may be attributed to the presence of adequate phenolic (gallic acid content is 361.92.98 μg/g in leaf, 356.59μg/g in root, 719.72 μg/g in seed and 512.08 μg/g stem) and flavonoid compounds (219.52 μg/g in leaf, 75.67μg/g in root, 281.39 μg/g in seed and 215.66 μg/g stem). This study revealed that the ethanolic extracts of both leaf, root, seed and stem of H. radicata has demonstrated significant antioxidant activity. Conclusion : In conclusion, the present study has demonstrated that Hypochaeris radicata seed ethanol extracts are rich in phenolics and have a strong antioxidant activity and a radical-scavenging action in all of the tested methods. This suggests that Hypochaeris radicata is a good source of natural antioxidants.

Background/Aims: A link between G protein β3 (GNB3) polymorphism and functional dyspepsia (FD) has been suggested. The aim of this study was to determine the role of GNB3 polymorphism in the long-term prognosis of FD in Koreans. Methods: FD patients and normal healthy controls were recruited from patients who visited our center between December 2006 and June 2007. All of the subjects completed Rome III questionnaires before undergoing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy. Genomic DNA was extracted for GNB3 genotyping. After 5 years, the subjects were reevaluated using the same questionnaires. Results: GNB3 825T carrier status was significantly related to FD in Koreans (p=0.04). After 5 years, 61.0% of the initial FD patients and 12.2% of the initial normal subjects were diagnosed with FD (odds ratio [OR], 11.7; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.3 to 31.1; p<0.001). Regardless of the GNB3 genotype (p=0.798), female sex was strongly correlated with FD after 5 years (OR, 3.3; 95% CI, 1.2 to 9.1; p=0.017). Conclusions: The T allele of GNB3 is linked to FD in Koreans but does not predict long-term prognosis. Female sex is related to a higher prevalence of FD after 5 years.
