The single-modal Weibull model has been assessed on Tyranno ZMI Si-Zr-C-O fiber if a set of shape and scale parameters accurately reproduced the effect of the size of the diameter on strength. The tensile data of a single fiber have been divided into two expedient groups as 'small diameter' group and 'large diameter' group in deriving the parameters, which should be consistent if the Weibull model accurately reproduced the size effect. However, the derived Weibull parameters were inconsistent between the two groups. Thereby the authors have concluded that the parameters of the single-modal Weibull model are dependent on the fiber diameter, so that the model is inadequate to reproduce the strength size effect. On the other hand, Weibull parameters were found consistent between the two groups by excluding the data of 'large mirror zone' sample, which was defined as the sample around 10% mirror zone area of the fracture surface. What is more, the exclusion reduced the strength variance more drastically in the 'large diameter' group than in the 'small diameter' group, even though the 'large mirror zone' samples were found identical in the percentage between the two groups. The authors therefore conclude that diameter limitation to the 'small diameter' group level can lead to drastically less distributed strength values than the estimated strength through the Weibull scaling on the present Tyranno ZMI Si-Zr-C-O fiber.

In recent years, dysphagia is problem among elderly people. Therefore, it is necessary to accurately evaluate swallowing function in order to prevent swallowing disorder beforehand or to detect it early. And it is considered that evaluation of swallowing function using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is useful. In order to accurately analyzing of the swallowing motion using a computer aided diagnosis (CAD) system on MR imaging, automatic extraction of the esophagus region, which is a region of interest by the image analysis method, is required. Extraction of the spinal region is required as a preliminary step of the esophagus region extraction. Therefore, in this paper, we develop an analysis method of swallowing movement by three steps of extraction of spinal region, extraction of esophageal region, and analysis of swallowing movement. As an analytical method of swallowing movement, we emphasize the liquid part at the time of swallowing movement using an emphasis map, then follow the liquid tracing by using the AKAZE feature quantity and the particle filter algorithm, and analyze the swallowing motion.

In order to accurately analyze the swallowing motion, automatic extraction of the region of interest by the image analysis method is necessary. In this paper, as a pretreatment of a method for automatic extraction of esophageal region on dental MR image, we develop automatic extraction method of spinal candidate region. We first extract the posterior region of the spine and then extract the intervertebral disc region. Then we perform the detection of the anterior region of the spine and finally we extract the region between the anterior region of the spine and the posterior region of the spine as a spinal region. The proposed method was applied to 5 cases of dental MR images, and the results of TP 91.2 [%] and FP 8.8 [%] are obtained.

Background: Connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) is a multifunctional cellular protein and playing a role as a central mediator in tissue remodeling and fibrosis. The physiological function of CTGF in psoriasis is unknown. Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the function of CTGF in psoriasis using the established imiquimod (IMQ)- induced psoriasis murine model and psoriasis patients. Methods: Anti-CTGF monoclonal antibody was applied to IMQ induced psoriasis mice and those skin were clinically, pathologically and immunologically analyzed. Additionally, CTGF expression was analyzes using skin samples and plasma from psoriasis patients. Results: CTGF expression was observed in the dermis from both IMQ-induced psoriatic mice and psoriasis patients. CTGF inhibition using an anti-CTGF antibody slightly worsened IMQ-induced dermatitis. In addition, the increase of CTGF showed tendency to suppress the psoriatic dermatitis through inhibition of suprabasal cells proliferation and macrophage infiltration in the skin. CTGF was also detected significantly higher in plasma from psoriasis patients comparing with healthy control. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that CTGF could contribute to the healing rather than the worsening of psoriasis skin lesions. (Ann Dermatol 30(1) 47∼53, 2018)
