宋昌吉 ( Song Chang-kil ),姜奉均 ( Kang Bong-kyoon ) 한국유기농업학회 2000 韓國有機農業學會誌 Vol.8 No.3
This experiment was conducted to investigate the changes of rate of infected common scab and yield characteristics of fall patato(Solanum tuberosum L.) where green manual crops had been previously cultivated, crushed and tilled and PㆍE transparent vinyl film had been mulched and tunneled to solar heating of soil from May 21. 1998 to July 28. 1998. The total yields of green manual crops which had been previousely cultivated were as followed order : pioneer 855F(64.3MT/ha), soybean(25.0MT/ha), red clover and orchardgrass. The average below-ground temperature at the depths of 5, 10 and 20cm were 54, 45 and 4 4V during the mulching period, respectively. The rate of infected area per potato tuber of common scab decreased by solar heating the soils with mulching after the soybean and red clover cultivation as with previous croppings. Plant height, SPAD(soil plant analysis development) reading, fresh weight of steins, and fall potato's tuber yields tended to increase by the cultivation of green manual crops and mulching of PㆍE film. Fall potato's tuber yields were remarkably affected in the plot of soybean, red clover and pioneer 855F+cultivation of fall potato. T-N, K and Ca contents of fall potato(stem and tuber) also tended to increase by the cultivation of green manual crops and mulching of PㆍE film. T-N, K and Ca contents of soil tended to increase after the cultivation of green manual crops and mulching of PㆍE film and then reduced to contents of soil before green manual planting after potato harvesting.

This study was conducted to evaluate effect of microorganisms in the production of seed potatoes based on the mobility rate of disease of common scab and bacterial soft rot and yield of seed potatoes. Two kinds of seed potatoes, the soil culture and the hydroponic were soaked in the culture solution of Bacillus velezensis GH1-13 strains (Soaked GH1-13) and dried at dark room. Seed potatoes were sowed in the field and culture solution of Chorella vulgaris was sprayed on the potato plants at the fifth and the sixth week after sowing. Soaked GH1-13 caused to decrease by 16.5% in the mobility rate of common scab and by 1.0% in that of bacterial soft rot than the control. The chlorella spraying caused to reduce by 12.6% in that of common scab and lowered by 1.1% in that of the bacterial soft rot than the control in the soil cultured seed potatoes. The production population of 30 to 330 grams potatoes per ha, specification of seed potatoes, was more 5,000 ea by the soaked GH1-13 and more 2,666 ea by the chlorella spraying than the control in the soil culture seeds. That was more 555 ea by chlorella spraying than the control in the hydroponic seeds. In the cultivation of soil culture seed potatoes, the soaked GH1-13 caused to increase the yield of seed potatoes by 1,167 kg and spray chlorella caused to increase by 1,405 kg per ha with statistically significant difference. In the cultivation of hydroponic seed potatoes, spraying chlorella caused to increase the production of seed potatoes by 412 kg per ha.

Through in vitro screening for biocontrol agents (BCAs) against Streptomyces scabiei causing potato (Solanum tuberosum) common scab, 19 streptomycete and 17 fungal isolates with antagonistic activity were selected as BCA candidates. For the selection of BCA candidates which are highly resistant to 10 kinds of antibiotics or pesticides, chemical susceptibility testing was initially performed in vitro. A remarkable degree of variation in susceptibility to antibiotics or pesticides was observed among the isolates tested. Streptomycete A020645 isolate was highly resistant to all the tested chemicals except neomycin up to 5,000 ppm. On the other hand, out of 36 antagonistic microbes subjected to in vivo pot tests using cultivar Daejima, four streptomycete isolates namely, A020645, A010321, A010564, and A020973, showed high antagonistic activity with >60% and 55% control value, respectively, and high chemical resistance to 10 kinds of chemicals. Therefore, these isolates were selected as potential BCAs for the control of potato common scab.

‘Seohong’ was bred within the potato breeding program of National Institute of Highland Agriculture (NIHA). It was originated from a cross made in 1997 between ‘Jashim’ as a female and 93K65-1 as a male parent. Seohong was evaluated as a seedling number 97S05-1 for tuber characteristics, growth and yielding ability from 2001 to 2002, and than this clone was renamed as Daegwan 1-82. This clone was evaluated in the regional yield trial and the disease resistance in the five locations for three years. Finally, this clone was named as ‘Seohong’ and registered a new recommended potato cultivar in 2006. This cultivar has a round, shallow eye depth, light red-skinned tuber characteristics and low to medium dry matter content. It showed high resistance to common scab (Streptomyces scabies) and potato leaf roll virus (PLRV), however it was susceptible to potato virus Y (PVY) and late blight (Phytophthora infestans). Its mean tuber yields from the regional yield trial and winter cropping trial were 12 and 49 percent higher than that of ‘Superior’, respectively.

Lately, the autumn cropping areas of potato have been steadily increased to supply fresh potatoes all year round in Korea. Although "Dejima" is a main cultivar for autumn cropping, it is very susceptible to common scab (Streptomyces scabies) and show high frequency of physiological disorders such as knobs and cracking on tubers. "Chudong" was bred in 2002 for fresh table use from a cross between H83520-3 with short tuber dormancy and "Superior" with common scab resistance. It has attractive, round tuber shape with white skin and flesh colors. Its tuber dormant periods is 5 days longer than 65 days of "Dejima". Its average yields were 32.4 and 21.8 ton/ha at 90 days after planting in spring and autumn cropping of regional yield trials, respectively. It is more resistant to common scab and potato leaf roll virus and less susceptible to late blight (Phythophthora infestans) compared to "Dejima". However, it is susceptible to potato virus Y.

Potato common scab disease is caused by pathogens belonging to Streptomyces spp. and results in a serious yield loss worldwide. Despite decades of research aimed at disease management, a definitive control method remains undiscovered. This study aims to explore the correlation between the C/N ratio and urea application with potato common scab pathogen dynamics and disease severity. We applied sawdust with a high C/N ratio and urea into the soil prior to potato cropping, both in pot and field experiments. Disease severity assessments and quantification of the TxtB gene were conducted at the harvest stage. Furthermore, culture experiments were performed to assess the direct impact of urea on the pathogen. Our findings revealed that higher disease severity was correlated with a high C/N ratio application and pathogenic gene quantity. Urea exhibited a direct influence on S. scabiei activity, reducing the disease severity in pot experiments. However, the effects of urea application on disease suppression in the conductive field were inconclusive. Although the results of urea application experiments displayed inconsistencies between pot and field trials, urea worked as the control to suppress S. scabiei activity. Further investigations are needed under various field conditions to confirm these findings.
