        정창영,배선명,이동형,민순기,강태영,백금문,Jeong, Chang Young,Bae, Sun Myung,Lee, Dong Hyung,Min, Soon Ki,Kang, Tae Young,Baek, Geum Mun 대한방사선치료학회 2014 대한방사선치료학회지 Vol.26 No.2

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to verify the accuracy of dose delivery according to the pitch and roll rotational setup error with 6D robotic couch in Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) for pelvic region in patients. Materials and Methods : Trilogy(Varian, USA) and 6D robotic couch(ProturaTM 1.4, CIVCO, USA) were used to measure and analyze the rotational setup error of 14 patients (157 setup cases) for pelvic region. The total 157 Images(CBCT 78, Radiography 79) were used to calculate the mean value and the incidence of pitch and roll rotational setup error with Microsoft Office Excel 2007. The measured data (3 mm, 3%) at the reference angle ($0^{\circ}$) without couch rotation of pitch and roll direction was compared to the others at different pitch and roll angles ($1^{\circ}$, $1.5^{\circ}$, $2^{\circ}$, $2.5^{\circ}$) to verify the accuracy of dose delivery by using 2D array ionization chamber (I'mRT Matrixx, IBA Dosimetry, Germany) and MultiCube Phantom(IBA Dosimetry, Germany). Result from the data, gamma index was evaluated. Results : The mean values of pitch and roll rotational setup error were $0.9^{\circ}{\pm}0.7$, $0.5^{\circ}{\pm}0.6$. The maximum values of them were $2.8^{\circ}$, $2.0^{\circ}$. All of the minimum values were zero. The mean values of gamma pass rate at four different pitch angles ($1^{\circ}$, $1.5^{\circ}$, $2^{\circ}$, $2.5^{\circ}$) were 97.75%, 96.65%, 94.38% and 90.91%. The mean values of gamma pass rate at four different roll angles ($1^{\circ}$, $1.5^{\circ}$, $2^{\circ}$, $2.5^{\circ}$) were 93.68%, 93.05%, 87.77% and 84.96%. when the same angles ($1^{\circ}$, $1.5^{\circ}$, $2^{\circ}$) of pitch and roll were applied simultaneously, The mean values of each angle were 94.90%, 92.37% and 87.88%, respectively. Conclusion : As a result of this study, it was able to recognize that the accuracy of dose delivered is lowered gradually as pitch and roll increases. In order to increase the accuracy of delivered dose, therefore, it is recommended to perform IGRT or correct patient's position in the pitch and roll direction, to improve the quality of treatment.

Effect of the pre‑treated pyrolysis fuel oil: coal tar pitch ratio on the spinnability and oxidation properties of isotropic pitch precursors and the mechanical properties of derived carbon fibers

        Jinchang Liu,Hiroki Shimanoe,Jong‑Eun Choi,Seunghyun Ko,Young‑Pyo Jeon,Koji Nakabayashi,Jin Miyawaki,Seong‑Ho Yoon 한국탄소학회 2019 Carbon Letters Vol.29 No.2

Pitch precursors affording excellent spinnability, high-level oxidation-resistance, and good carbonization yields were prepared by bromination–dehydrobromination of various ratios of pyrolyzed fuel oil and coal tar pitch. The pitches exhibited spinnabilities that were much better than those of pitches prepared via simple distillation. A pitch prepared using a 1:2 ratio of fuel oil and coal tar pitch exhibited the best tensile strength. Pitch fibers of diameter 8.9 ± 0.1 μm were stabilized at 270 °C without soaking time after heating at a rate of 0.5 °C/min and carbonized at 1100 °C for 1 h after heating at 5 °C/min. The resulting carbon fibers exhibited a tensile strength, elongation, Young’s modulus, and average diameter of 1700 ± 170 MPa, 1.6 ± 0.1%, 106 ± 37 GPa, and 7.1 ± 0.2 μm, respectively.

Preparation of petroleum-based binder pitch for manufacturing thermally conductive carbon molded body and comparison with commercial coal-based binder pitch

2020 Carbon Letters Vol.30 No.4

In the present study, carbon molded bodies were prepared by using graphite/coke fllers and petroleum-based binder pitch with various softening points, and the thermal properties of the prepared carbon molded bodies were investigated. The ratio of a binder afects the molded body preparation: no molded body was prepared at a low binder pitch content, and swelling occurred during the thermal treatment at a high binder pitch content. The binder pitch thermal treatment yield was the highest at 41 wt% at the softening point of 150 °C and the lowest at 23 wt% at the softening point of 78 °C. A signifcant mass reduction was found in the range of 150 to 300 °C in the petroleum-based binder pitch, and in the range of 300 to 475 °C in the coal-based binder pitch. The molecular weight of the binder pitch was analyzed through the matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-fight (MALDI-TOF) method. The molecular weight ratio within the interval showing the highest binder pitch molecular weight (178 to 712 m/z) was the highest at 66.4% in the coal-based binder pitch (softening point 115 °C) and the lowest at 46.0% in the petroleum-based binder pitch (softening point 116 °C). When the petroleumbased binder pitch was applied, as the softening point was increased, the voids decreased and thus the thermal conductivity increased. The highest thermal conductivity was 99.5 W/mK for the carbon molded bodies prepared using the coal-based binder pitch and 102.8 W/mK for those prepared by using the petroleum-based binder pitch. The results showed that the thermal properties were similar between the coal-based binder pitch (softening point 115 °C) and the petroleum-based binder pitch (softening point 150 °C).

Vol.19 No.1

Background: To investigate how many rookie pitchers suffered from injuries while playing in the amateur league without guidelines for prevention of excessive pitching, we analyzed their amateur pitching patterns based on the pitch count, use of breaking balls, and pitches during winter camp. Methods: Forty-one rookie pitchers who graduated from high school or university in 2013 and joined professional baseball teams. Participants were interviewed by a trainer using our questionnaire. Injury inclusion criteria were 1) history of shoulder surgery, 2) history of elbow surgery, 3) shoulder pain requiring treatment, and 4) elbow pain requiring treatment. Results: Mean number of pitches per game and warm-up pitches for practice was 84.5 pitches (range, 15 to 130 pitches) and 16.4 pitches (range, 2 to 210 pitches), respectively. Mean number of pitches during the last year was 906.9 (range, 80 to 2,000). Mean number of maximal pitches was 127 pitches (range, 50 to 210 pitches). Fourteen pitchers had pitched over 150 pitches. Twenty-seven pitchers (65.9%) had pitched in spite of enduring pain. During winter training (mean 1.8 months), mean number of pitches per day was 162.5 pitches, and 20 pitchers (48.8%) had practiced pitching excessively despite the cold weather. Twenty-six rookies (63.4%) had shoulder pain or history of shoulder surgery, and 31 pitchers (75.6%) had elbow pain or history of elbow surgery. Only four participants (9.8%) did not have pain and history of surgery. Conclusions: For young baseball pitchers, guidelines for prevention of excessive pitching and for regulating the winter training program may be needed.

Vol.14 No.7

In this study, a self-made customized phantom was used to quantitatively measure the change in CT number and noise according to the change of pitch. In order to acquire an image using the phantom, the inside of the phantom was filled with sterile distilled water. Inside the glass tube, a solution obtained by diluting the ratio of normal saline and contrast medium to 100%(NS), 400:1, 200:1, 100:1, 50:1, respectively, was placed and imaged. At this time, the pitch was divided into steps of 0, 0.35, 0.7, 1.05, and 1.4 for each dilution ratio of the solution and imaged, respectively. One-way ANOVA analysis were performed to verify whether the mean of the CT number and noise values measured in all ROIs by dilution ratio showed a significant difference according to the change in pitch. As a result of the experiment, there was no statistically significant difference in the change of the CT number according to the change in the pitch for each dilution ratio, but the noise value tended to increase with the increase of the pitch, and showed a statistically significant difference. In the spiral image acquisition of CT, noise can be changed to a significant level depending on the pitch. Therefore, it will be necessary to set the quality evaluation items and criteria for CT images using the spiral image acquisition method.

      • Mesophase development in petroleum pitches as binder pitches for carbon/carbon composites

Vol.2014 No.1

Petroleum pitches were used to produce mesophase pitch used as binder pitches for carbon/carbon (C/C) composites. Petroleum pitches were thermally treated at 260~340°C to remove low molecular compounds in the pitch, and then increasing the temperature of the pitch to 400°C to form anisotropic mesophase as the second stage temperature. The characterizations of the petroleum and mesophase pitches were measured by elemental analysis, coke yield, solubility, and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Polarization microscope was used to investigate the mesophase content of the petroleum pitches. Pyrolysis behaviors of the petroleum and mesophase pitches were also analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG).

Vol.33 No.12

A study on mesophase pitch as a matrix precursor of carbon fiber reinforced carbon (C/C) composite has been recently presented. This study is concerned with the production of mesophase pitch as matrix precursors for C/C composite from coal tar pitch. A commercial coal tar pitch was heat-treated at 25$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours to remove low molecular weight fraction from the pitch then increasing the temperature of the pitch to between 350~45$0^{\circ}C$ to produce mesophase pitch. The pitch was continuously stirred during this time and nitrogen gas was continuously bubbled through the pitch. Spherical and bulk mesophases were formed in the pitch after heat-treatment,. Parent and mesophae pitches were characterized by elemental analysis coke yield solubi-lity in tetrahydrofuran and hexane and an optical microscopy to measure the mesiophase content. It was neces-sary to produce C/C composite that a mesophase pitch with about 30-40 vol% mesophase spherulites can be infiltrated into a fiber preform without a filter effect as a matrix precursor conditions. This condition was satisfied with mesophase pitch heat treated at 40$0^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours. The other heat treatment conditions showed the nuclei of mesophase or bulk mesophae which were not satisfied with the matix precursor condition.

Controlling spinning pitch property by tetrahydrofuran‑soluble fraction of coal tar pitch co‑carbonization with petrolatum

        Wei Jiang,Guosong Ni,Pingping Zuo,Shijie Qu,Yunmei Li,Hongxian Niu,Wenzhong Shen 한국탄소학회 2019 Carbon Letters Vol.29 No.5

Isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber was successfully prepared from tetrahydrofuran-soluble fraction of coal tar pitch cocarbonization with petrolatum by air-blowing. The effects of reaction temperature and time, amount of petrolatum added on the composition and spinning properties of resultant pitches were investigated. It indicated that petrolatum could effectively improve the softening point, aromaticity, hydrogen content and molecular weight of the resultant pitches by promoting cross-linking and dehydrogenation polymerization reactions at low air-blowing temperature. Moreover, more aliphatic and naphthenic structures had been introduced into resultant pitches as addition of petrolatum and also inhibited the generation of quinoline-insoluble particles. The obtained green fibers were facile to be stabilized and carbonized and the resultant carbon fibers showed fully isotropic and finer, uniform diameter with smooth surface and higher tensile strength of up to 0.92 GPa. It provided a facile chemical modification method for isotropic pitch-based carbon fiber production.

      • Preparation and characteristics of mesophase pitches prepared from chemically modified pitch with AlCl3

Vol.2015 No.0

Mesophase pitches consist of molecules including high aromaticity and orientation. So, mesophase pitches based carbon materials have high thermal, electrical properties. Therefore it is important to understand the changes of chemical characteristics of the molecules during preparation of mesophase pitches from isotropic pitches in order to manufacture the high performance carbon materials. In this study, we prepared isotropic pitches from pyrolysis fuel oil with AlCl3 through catalytic modification as precursors of mesophase pitches. And then, prepared pitches were transformed the mesophase pitches through high heat treatment according to various reaction time. Elementary compositions of the mesophase pitches were confirmed by elemental analysis(EA). In addition, their aromaticities were calculated by combination of elemental analysis and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) results. Crystallinities and molecular structures of the mesophase pitches were examined using X-ray diffraction(XRD) and solid state carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance(13C NMR) respectively.

Control of the properties of a binder pitch to enhance the density and strength of graphite blocks

Ji Hong Kim 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.6

This paper proposes the optimal molecular weight for a petroleum-based binder pitch to enhance the density and strength of the prepared graphite block. The effect of the molecular weight on the binder properties, which was quantified using solvent fractionation, was considered based on the evaluation of the coking and viscosity characteristics. The affinity of the pitch to coke influenced the carbonization yield of the block, and the proportion of closed pores was reduced via the use of a highaffinity binder pitch. In addition, the viscosity was found to influence the uniformity of the coke and pitch dispersions, and numerous open pores were formed in the graphite block under high-viscosity conditions. In terms of the molecular weight, a reduction in the content of the insoluble 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) fraction, which was the heaviest fraction present in the pitch, was found to reduce the affinity of the binder to coke while increasing its viscosity. Therefore, the density and strength of the prepared graphite block were reduced upon increasing the insoluble NMP content of the binder pitch. Consequently, it was necessary to control the content of this fraction within < 13.81 wt% to obtain high-density and high-strength graphite blocks.
