The Chrysomelid species of the genus Xanthogaleruca, X. aenescens Fairmaire, 1878 is reportd for the first time from South Korea. The genus Xanthogaleruca Laboissiére, 1934, within subfamily Galerucinae, contains only nine species, and is distributed Palearctic region (Beenen, 2010), but one adventive species, X. luteola (Müller, 1766), is widespread throughout much of Canada, North Africa and the United States. Also known as the elm leaf beetle, it feed on Ulmus (Ulmaceae). In the present study we report on the genus Xanthogaleruca Laboissiére, 1934 from Korea for the first time, based on X. aenescens Fairmaire, 1878. We provide the habitus photographs, illustrations of diagnostic features and a key to the genus in S. Korea.

Among the Coleoptera, case bearing is found in four related subfamilies of the Chrysomelidae, the so-called Camptosomates: Clytrinae, Cryptocephalinae, Chlamisinae, and Lamprosomatinae (Böving and Craighead, 1931). Adults of casebearing chrysomelids feed on foliage of a variety of eudicots (Erber, 1988), but their larvae often show departures from strict phytophagy. Besides those with true herbivore larvae, that feed on green plant parts and complete development on the host plant, the larvae of most species live on the ground, in leaf litter, and feed on dry vegetable material and detritus (Erber, 1988; Brown and Funk, 2005). The larvae of some clytrine species live in ant nests (Erber, 1988; Brothers et al., 2000), but besides these mirmecophiles, many other clytrine larvae live in leaf litter and some few others on plants (Erber, 1988; Jolivet, 1988). The genus Smaragdina Chevrolat is distributed in the Paleoarctic region, and in the Oriental region (Chûjô & Kimoto, 1961; Erber & Medvedev, 1999; Gök, 2003; Maican, 2005, 2006). Forth-three Smaragdina species are distributed throughout northeast Asia, from Korea to Japan (Gressitt & Kimoto, 1961; Kimoto & Takizawa, 1994, 1997). In Korea a total of 5 species were known by Lee and An (2001). Recently, Smaragdina nipponensis Chûjô is newly recorded by Park et al. (2011). However, for the clytrine larvae has never been studied from Korea. The present study contains the description of the egg and first instar larva of S. nipponensis with notes on biology of adults and larvae, observes in natural conditions and in laboratory.
Sphaeroderma seriatum Baly (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Alticinae), New to Korea

The genus Sphaeroderma Baly, comprising over 165 species, is distributed mainly in Palaeotropical superregion and a few species are also known from Neotropical region. Seventy-four species in Palearctic region. In Korea a total of 5 species were known by Lee & An (2001), An (2011). In this paper, we report Sphaeroderma seriatum Baly for the first time in the Korean fauna. We provide the habitus photographs, illustrations of diagnostic features and a key to the genus in Korea. Up to now 6 species of Sphaeroderma have been recorded from the Korea, including the present species.

A taxonomic review of the genus Gonioctena in the Korean Peninsula is presented. Ten species belonging to three subgenera are recognized. Gonioctena jacobsoni (Ogloblin et Medvedev) and Gonioctnea kamiyaiKimoto are recorded for the first time in Korea. A key, illustrations of diagnostic characters, and the coloration patterns of Korean Gonioctena are provided.

The genus Gonioctena Chevrolat, 1836 is one of the largest genera of the subfamily Chrysomelinae with approximately 110 valid species in nine subgenera distributed in the Holarctic and Oriental regions. The Gonioctena mauroi species-group of the subgenus Brachyphytodecta Bechyně, 1948 is proposed to include four species: Gonioctena mauroi Cho & Borowiec, 2016 (Vietnam), G. medvedevi Cho & Borowiec, 2016 (Vietnam), G. kuatunensis sp. nov. (China) and G. longshengensis sp. nov. (China). They are characterized by the presence of setae on the aedeagus, which is unique within the subgenus. A key to the species, habitus photographs, illustrations of diagnostic characters and a distribution map are provided. Ovoviviparity is newly recorded in G. longshengensis sp. nov.

The genus Morphosphaera Baly, 1861, within subfamily Galerucinae, contains eighteen species, and is distributed Palearctic region. In the present study we report on the genus Morphosphaera Baly, 1861 from Korea for the first time, based on M. japonica Hornstedt, 1788. We provide the habitus photographs, illustrations of diagnostic features and a key to the genus in S. Korea.

The genus Gonioctena Chevrolat, 1836 is one of the largest genera of the subfamily Chrysomelinae with approximately110 valid species in nine subgenera distributed in the Holarctic and Oriental Regions (Cho 2016). Their larval morphologyis relatively well known, especially in Europe, the Russian Far East and Japan. Larvae of 41 species have been describedbased primarily on the tubercles and chaetotaxy (Kimoto 1962; Medvedev & Zaitzev 1978; Baselga 2008, 2010, etc.).However, their relationship is still incomplete because descriptions of many species are too brief and more than half ofthe species are completely unknown. Here, we redescribe in detail the last instar larva of Gonioctena coreana (Bechyně),G. gracilicornis (Kraatz), G. jacobsoni (Ogloblin & Medvedev) and G. viminalis (Linnaeus) from South Korea. Noteson biology, host plant and ovoviviparity are also provided.

본 논문은 일본산 잎벌레과 유충 분류에 관한 연구의 일부로서, 벼룩잎벌레아과의 2속에 속하는 검정다리벼룩잎벌레 Altica caerulescens (Baly), 어깨벼룩잎벌레 A. cirsicola Ohno, 두점알벼룩잎벌레 Argopistes biplagiatus Motschulsky 및 큰알벼룩잎벌레 A. coccinelliformis Csiki를 다루었으며, 이들 유충은 일본에서 처음 기재된다. 특히 Argopistes 속의 유충은 잠엽성이며 이들에 관한 기타 생태학적 관찰도 추가되었다. The present paper is a part of the study on the larvae of leaf beetles in Japan. It is the first time to describe and to illustrate the larvae of four Japanese species belonging to two genera in the subfamily Alticinae; Altica caerulescens (Baly), A. cirsicola Ohno, Argopistes biplagiatus Motschulsky, and A. coccinelliformis Csiki. Out of them, the Argopistes larvae are leaf-miners. Also given are biological notes as well as taxonomic remarks.
