Today's aesthetics and design orientations seem to be: flexibility, mobility, multi-functionality required front user's new needs. Our spaces have changed increasingly contain the needs of constant mobility and ability to adapt to a wide variety of situations. For efficient use, a modular system in furnishing can manage the spaces with components which are easy to assemble and disassemble. The function comes from spacial technological structure that is an 'union' formed by units to joint each other. The repeated module is tailored to unchanging environmental conditions. On the other hand, the structure defined by change reacts flexibility to a dynamic environment. In decision-making, it is flexible and able to adapt. Their ability to be positioned freely anywhere in the room allows individual tasks to be carried out by different people, and their almost endless variety of uses create distinctive spaces for living.

This study considered stools not just as a tool for sitting but with their symbolicity as well. Regarding the changes and meanings of general stools and X-stools, this paper studied their images and explanations as well as literatures by quoting as it limited their range from the ancient times till Neo-classicism. In conclusion, the origin of stools exists in consciousness and also the social hierarchy of authority. There still remain the elements of X in any way along with the functions. This proves that furniture has reason for existence even today not just for its functions but something beyond that. Along with the historic flow of X-stools, we should know that there is diversity of thinking in the area of stools. In understanding furniture design or furniture, now is the time to approach to it in various ways, and it is expected that new design can be born through that thinking.

주거공간의 공간조절행위에 따른 가구배치특성 연구 - 아파트의 가구배치 실태조사를 중심으로 -

This study aimed at acknowledging characteristics of space usage and suggesting orientation of space planning and furniture designing that meet various residents’ demands correlating with residential area, furniture and family members by doing fact finding of volume of the furniture in medium/small sized apartment. The contents of the study are “experience of functional remodeling,” “a number of bedrooms correlating with a number of family” and “furniture arrangement of each space and characteristics of space utilization” based on forty six cases. Followings are results of the study. 1) It was acknowledged that the function of space relating to family members largely depends on furniture arrangement correlating with age of children. It is needed that flexible planning of residential area to meets growing children and various family demands. 2) Functional remodeling requires furniture rearrangement attended with the remodeling. Thus, it is required that ideas in more simple and efficient furniture designing and consideration of construction environment embracing that ideas. 3) It can be acknowledged that the most demanding matter to enjoy satisfied and comfortable life in residential area is the matter of storage area. It is also understandable that the matter can be worse by time going by and the change of living pattern. Therefore, it is required that the consideration of enough storage area compatible with its function of the room and the planning of built-in furniture for storage.

촉진 열화 느티나무 부재의 역학적 특성

This study was carried out to analyze the effects on mechanical properties of deteriorated wood member by outdoor condition. The surface color, mechanical properties and structural stability of traditional wooden structures, exposed in water and UV, could be changeable. For the purpose, accelerated weathering test based on outdoor condition was carried out. The weathering time levels were composed 0, 500, 1000, 1,500 and 2,000 hours and mechanical properties were evaluated on each specimen according to weathering time level. Bending properties were decreased on weathering but recovered after 1,000 hours. Fatigue and impact strength were decreased to 1,000 hours and did not changed since then. Abrasion resistance was minimized in 1,000 hours. This results could be utilized for effectively stability management of traditional wooden structures and members.

촉진열화실험에 따른 목재 부재의 재색 특성 분석

This study was carried out to analyze the surface color change according to the weathering time. The surface color of material was one of evaluation indexes in exposure experiment. For the purpose, accelerated weathering test was performed with wood. The weathering time level was composed with 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 hours and color difference was estimated with the color difference meter. The surface color was changed to 500 hours that lightness and redness were decreased and yellowness was increased. However it did not changed after 500 hours. It means that the surface color could be the evaluation index of deterioration of the wood but it means very little after certain time.

Since 1990s the concern on essence and inside has transferred onto the surface and its style. The longing for plastic surgery and skin beauty might prove this fervent tendency. Furthermore the development of digital media and technology as well as high-tech material enabled this hope to be real in the realm of design. All these progresses and transitions toward the surface introduced more creative and novel phenomena of furniture design arena around its surface. The rising of surface has evolved through architecture, interior design and furniture. The surface of furniture can be easily transposed into the human skin. And it acquires the aspects of skin's metaphoric and symbolic meaning. The characteristics of skin effect in furniture design can be summarized as material aspects, relational aspects, and formal aspects. Material aspects shows skin's elasticity and smooth plane. Relational aspects express the reactive functions of skin. Formal aspects represent organic power through surface.

These days global warming is the most important problem and the most important factor is high emission of carbon dioxide. The 23% of carbon dioxide emission for building construction must be reduced. Thermal conductivity is the most basic factor that can decrease the energy consumption especially insulation. Therefore, an accurate and continuous thermal conductivity measurement can be a way to save energy. In this paper, there are methods about how to investigate thermal conductivity measurements and comparing two methods which are the Heat Flow Meter 436 and TCi.

업사이클링(upcycling) 가구디자인의 경향 연구 - 소재 분류에 따른 사례 연구 중심으로 -

The attempt of the contemporary society to overcome the environmental crisis is considered what the whole world is currently interested in. Since value of resources recycling has become emphasized even more, the field of design is, now, working hard to prove how much they are passionate about this eco-friendly design. Of all those activities that the field of design is involving in, a concept called ‘upcycling’ is receiving the greatest spotlight as a new trend. When it comes to upcycling, you should understand it as a both functional and aesthetic upgraded idea of conventional ‘recycling’ which would re-use waste resources. With this upcycling, you will have a chance to re-create an object of a new value, and it is a design concept which would consider environmental aspects but also social aspects. Since the year of 2000, the field of furniture design has been pursuing a new design trend which would intensively concern this upcycling concept. In the light of the present circumstances described on the above, this study conducts a case analysis on how upcycling of different materials is applied to furniture design since the year 2000. In doing so, the study improve understanding on furniture design as proposing new ways for you to look at the concerned design. Not only that, it also comes up with ideas and directions for new upcycling furniture design which could be demanded by the environmental industry.

백제권 유물을 활용한 컴퓨터용품 디자인 개발연구 - 무령왕 족좌를 중심으로 -

Meanwhile, on the basis of a practical item, the largest issue was the consumption of cultural products by maximizing the economic benefit of the community and at the same time a symbol of cultural heritage items have been transformed into the effectiveness of the national image enhancement is expected to be achieved.

플라스틱 가구디자인의 로우테크(low-tech) 기법에 관한 연구 -플라스틱 디자인 수공예적 방법의 가구디자이너를 중심으로-

This study shows how the plastic furniture design has developed in general and bycontemporary auteurist designers. Plastic furniture design began with Mies van der Rohe'schairs produced with compression moldings, and was later successfully commercialized by Knolland Herman Miller. Plastic undoubtedly played a significant role in giving modern furniture designits current status with its suitability for efficient mass-production. However, the expectationsconsumers have for designers have extended by the widespread internet accessibilityalong with the higher standards of the well-developed design industry, and now mass-productionis no more the only key to appealing to those in need. Based on the information gatheredfrom the process above, analyses were done on the works of various design artists in thecurrent industry, which leads to certain suggestions that would help bring the plastic furnituredesign to the next level as a whole.
