<P>The use of small interfering RNA (siRNA) with chemotherapeutic drugs has a synergistic effect of inhibiting target genes. Furthermore, theranostics, which enables therapeutic drug delivery and provides immediate diagnosis, is also emerging as a promising technique. In line with this novel concept, we have developed an albumin-based nanomedicine capable of combination therapy (chemo-and gene therapy) and photoacoustic imaging. The multifunctional (combination therapy and photoacoustic imaging) theranostic nanomedicine contains paclitaxel (PTX), siRNA, and indocyanine green (ICG). Sulfhydryl-modified siRNA and sulfhydryl-modified human serum albumin form more stable nanoparticles mainly through the disulfide bond, unlike prevalent nanomedicines (e. g., lipid-based nanomedicine or siRNA bioconjugates). The albumin-based multifunctional nanomedicine shows double gene inhibition ability and a synergistic effect of chemoand gene therapy. Inhibition of the expression of target genes (Bcl-2, VEGF, etc.) and simultaneous treatment with PTX exhibit a synergistic effect compared to single treatment in vitro and in vivo. Furthermore, using ICG, photoacoustic imaging was very efficient. Our study demonstrates that this multifunctional theranostic nanomedicine could perform co-delivery of PTX and siRNA and yield a synergistic effect for target cells. By virtue of combination gene therapy, this the ranostic nanomedicine has great potential to cure various diseases, including cancer, and aid the prognosis of target tumor cells or tissues by photoacoustic imaging. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of the development of a multifunctional theranostic nanomedicine for combination therapy and non-invasive photoacoustic imaging.</P>
Biological evaluation of neopeptins isolated from a Streptomyces strain

<P>BACKGROUND: Microbial secondary metabolites are a rich source of antifungal agents and have merit as alternatives to synthetic fungicides. To develop disease control agents against powdery mildew, the lipopeptide antibiotic neopeptins were identified from the culture broth of a Streptomyces sp., and in vivo control efficacy of the compounds was evaluated on cucumber plants under glasshouse conditions.</P><P>RESULTS: The Streptomyces sp. KNF2047 antagonistic against powdery mildew development in cucumber plants was isolated from a soil sample. Antifungal compounds were purified from the culture broth and identified as neopeptin A and B. In vitro microtitre assays revealed the inhibitory activities of the compounds in the range 128–512 µg mL<SUP>−1</SUP> against the mycelial growth of Alternaria mali, Botrytis cinerea, Cladosporium cucumerinum, Colletotrichum lagenarium, Didimella bryoniae and Magnaporthe grisea. Although neither compound showed remarkable in vitro antifungal activity against other plant pathogenic fungi, a mixture of neopeptins (484 mg of neopeptin A and 290 mg of neopeptin B per gram of partially purified powder) showed potent protective and curative activity against cucumber powdery mildew in vivo. The disease control activity of the neopeptins at a concentration of 2.4 mg L<SUP>−1</SUP> was 92.1%, which was similar to that of the commercial fungicide fenarimol (89.3% at 63 mg L<SUP>−1</SUP>) and that of the commercial biocontrol agent Actinovate (67.4% at 2 × 10<SUP>7</SUP> cfu L<SUP>−1</SUP>).</P><P>CONCLUSION: Neopeptin mixtures isolated from Streptomyces sp. Simulation and Experimental Study of A TLP Type Floating Wind Turbine with Spoke Platform

As the demand for renewable energy has increased following the worldwide agreement to act against global climate change and disaster, large-scale floating offshore wind systems have become a more viable solution. However, the cost of the whole system is still too high for practical realization. To make the cost of a floating wind system be more economical, a new concept of tension leg platform (TLP) type ocean floating wind system has been developed. To verify the performance of a 5-MW TLP type ocean floating wind power system designed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the FAST simulation developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory is used. Further, 1/50 scale model tests have been carried out in the ocean engineering tank of the Research Institute of Medium and Small Shipbuilding, Korea. This paper compares the simulation and ocean engineering tank test results on motion prediction and tension assessment of the TLP anchor.
Photocatalytic enhancement of cesium removal by Prussian blue-deposited TiO<sub>2</sub>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>After the Fukushima nuclear accident, tremendous efforts were made to treat radiocesium, radiostrontium, and other radioactive materials. For the first time, we demonstrate that a TiO<SUB>2</SUB> photocatalyst can significantly enhance Cs adsorption by Prussian blue-deposited TiO<SUB>2</SUB> (PB/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>) under UV irradiation. In this study, we synthesized PB/TiO<SUB>2</SUB> using the photodeposition method. After the Cs ions were adsorbed on the PB/TiO<SUB>2</SUB> in darkness, we then exposed the PB/TiO<SUB>2</SUB> to UV light irradiation. This resulted in a further increase in Cs ion adsorption of more than 10 times the amount adsorbed in darkness. This photocatalytic-enhanced adsorption of Cs ions was not observed on PB mixed with SiO<SUB>2</SUB>, nor under visible light irradiation. We investigated the effects of PB concentration, PB/TiO<SUB>2</SUB> concentration, and gas purging on both dark and photocatalytic-enhanced adsorption of Cs ions by PB/TiO<SUB>2</SUB>. Based on the results, we suggest that the photocatalytic-enhanced adsorption of Cs ions on PB/TiO<SUB>2</SUB> is due to photocatalytic reduction of PB, which leads to additional adsorption of Cs ions. The change in solution color before and after the reaction, and the change in solution pH in the dark and during UV irradiation strongly support this suggestion. <P>Two new phenylspirodrimane derivatives, stachybotrysin (1) and stachybotrylactone B (2), were isolated from the cultures of the marine derived fungus Stachybotrys sp. KCB13F013. The structures were determined by analyzing the spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR and MS) and chemical transformation, including the modified Mosher's method and single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. Compound 1 exhibited an inhibitory effect on osteoclast differentiation in bone marrow macrophage cells via suppressing the RANKL-induced activation of p-ERK, p-JNK, p-p38, c-Fos, and NFATc1.</P>
전역 실루엣 및 지역 광류 특징을 이용한 사람의 동작 인식

인간의 동작 인식은 가상 현실 시스템 및 게임 등에 적용할 수 있는 컴퓨터 비전 분야의 요소 기술 중 하나로써, 최근까지 그 연구과 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 빠르고 정확한 동작 인식을 위해, 실루엣과 모션 특징이 결합된 방법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 전역 특징을 이용한 후보 동작 선정 및 지역 특징을 이용한 검증 2 단계로 구성된다. 전역 특징은 Motion History Image의 Hu 모멘트를 이용해 계산되며, 후보 동작의 선정은 이들의 통계치를 이용해 결정한다. 한정된 후보 동작들 중 입력 동작을 정확히 인식하기 위해, 공간 및 방향성 비닝 기법으로 추출된 광류와 실루엣 특징을 지역 특징으로 이용한다. 최종 인식 결과는 Hu 모멘트 통계치와의 유사도 및 지역 특징의 학습을 통해 생성된 Support Vector Machine의 결과를 고려하여 결정된다. 제안하는 방법의 성능을 평가하기 위해, 실세계에서 사용 빈도가 높으며 동작의 변화가 큰 13 개의 제스처를 선정하여 데이터 셋을 구성하였다. 실험 결과 제안하는 방법의 연산 시간은 50 ms, 인식 정확도는 95%임을 확인하였다.
