Effect of Different Levels of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium on Root Activity and Chlorophyll Content in Leaves of Brassica oleracea Seedlings Grown in Vegetable Nursery Substrate

        Jian Zhang,Yan Wang,Pengcheng Wang,Qi an Zhang,Congsheng Yan,Feifei Yu,Jianqun Yi,Ling Fang 한국원예학회 2017 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.58 No.1

Nutrients in the substrate are important for plant growth, particularly during the development of vegetableseedlings. The continued development of intensive methods to produce seedlings has made growing healthy and high-gradeseedlings a requirement for nurseries. This study evaluated the effect of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium(K) on the root activity, dry weight, and chlorophyll content in leaves of Brassica oleracea seedlings. D-optimal designwas used in this study because of its accuracy. A total of 10 treatments (T1–T10) were designed, and differentconcentrations were chosen in the following ranges: N (0.6-5.0 g·kg-1), P (0.2-6.0 g·kg-1), and K (0.7-7.0 g·kg-1). Our studyshows that the application of N, P, and K to the substrate significantly influenced the growth of B. oleracea seedlings. T6significantly increased root activity, root dry weight, chlorophyll content in leaves when compared with the control T1,which had added nutrient concentrations at normal levels. However, the addition of high levels of N (5.0 g·kg-1) withhigh (7.0 g·kg-1) or low (0.7 g·kg-1) levels of K (T2 and T9) not only significantly decreased the root dry weight but alsodecreased leaf area. Our results suggest that N, P, and K can be added to the substrate at an appropriate ratio togrow vigorous B. oleracea seedlings under intensive seedling production conditions. The present results give insightinto the nutrient requirements during early growth of B. oleracea seedlings in growth substrate.

Optimal layout of long-gauge sensors for deformation distribution identification

Jian Zhang,Qingqing Zhang,Qi Xia,Zhishen Wu 국제구조공학회 2016 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.18 No.3

Structural deflection can be identified from measured strains from long gague sensors, but the sensor layout scheme greatly influences on the accuracy of identified resutls. To determine the optimal sensor layout scheme for accurate deflection identification of the tied arch bridge, the method of optimal layout of long-gauge fiber optic sensors is studied, in which the characteristic curve is first developed by using the bending macro-strain curve under multiple target load conditions, then optimal sensor layout scheme with different number of sensors are determined. A tied arch bridge is studied as an example to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method for static and dynamic deflection identification.

An Effective Guidewire Looping Technique for the Recanalization of Occlusive Segments of Infrapopliteal Vessels

        Jian-bo Wang,Jun-gong Zhao,Ming-hua Li,Yue-qi Zhu,Jue Wang,Pei-lei Zhang 대한영상의학회 2010 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.11 No.4

Objective: To determine the efficacy, safety and primary follow-up results of a guidewire looping technique for the treatment of infrapopliteal arteries. Materials and Methods: From October 2006 to May 2008, an intraluminal angioplasty of the infrapopliteal arteries was attempted in 200 consecutive patients. Altogether, 417 infrapopliteal lesions, with lengths varying from 2 cm to 32 cm, were treated as part of this study, including 305 lesions in the anterior tibial arteries, 89 in the posterior tibial arteries, and 23 in the peroneal arteries. The ‘U’-shaped guidewire technique was attempted in 393 lesions from 361 limbs. The tip of a hydrophilic 0.035-inch guidewire was formed into a ‘U’ shape with the aid of a 4-Fr catheter and collateral branch vessel to recanalize the completely occluded long segment lesions. Results: A successful angioplasty with at least one artery recanalized directly to the malleolar or dorsal foot was achieved in 322 limbs (89%). The looping technique had a success rate of 90% (352 of 393 lesions). After the procedure, the rest pain was relieved in 58 of 69 patients, while 207 of 245 limbs (85%) showed improvement for intermittent claudication. Complete wound healing was noted in 21 of 54 patients, while 20 of 54 patients showed an improvement in the wound size or depth. A total of 38 major immediate procedure-related complications were noted, including retroperitoneal hematoma, distal emboli, and vessel rupture. Conclusion: The results of this study suggests that the guidewire looping technique is a safe and effective method for the recanalization of the occluded lesions in infrapopliteal vessels. • Etoposide-Cisplatin Alternating with Vinorelbine-Cisplatin Versus Etoposide-Cisplatin Alone in Patients with Extensive Disease Combined with Small Cell Lung Cancer

        Zhang, Jie,Qi, Hui-Wei,Zheng, Hui,Chen, Mo,Zhu, Jun,Xie, Hui-Kang,Ni, Jian,Xu, Jian-Fang,Zhou, Cai-Cun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.10

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of alternating etoposide-cisplatin and vinorelbine-cisplatin (EP-NP) compared with an etoposide-cisplatin (EP) regimen for advanced combined small cell carcinomas. Materials and Methods: Histologically confirmed combined small cell carcinoma patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned (1:1) into either the EP-NP setting (group A) or the EP setting (group B). The primary endpoint was progression-free survival in patients who received at least one dose of treatment. Results: Eighty-two patients entered into this trial, 42 in group A and 40 in group B. The objective response rates in group A and group B were 42.9% and 32.5%, respectively (p=0.334). Survival analysis showed that median progression-free survival was 6.1 months in group A, which was significantly longer than the 4.1 months in group B (p=0.041). However, as to overall survival, no significant difference was found between the two groups (11.0 vs 10.1 months in groups A and B, respectively, p=0.545). No unexpected side effects were observed in either group. Conclusions: The EP-NP regimen for combined small cell carcinomas prolonged progressio-nfree survival compared with the EP regimen. Further clinical investigations are warranted.

Construction of Recombinant Pichia pastoris Carrying a Constitutive AvBD9 Gene and Analysis of Its Activity

( Jian Tu ),( Kezong Qi ),( Ting Xue ),( Haiting Wei ),( Yongzheng Zhang ),( Yanli Wu ),( Xiuhong Zhou ),( Xiaolong Lv ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2015 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.25 No.12

Avian beta-defensin 9 (AvBD9) is a small cationic peptide consisting of 41 amino acids that plays a crucial rule in innate immunity and acquired immunity in chickens. Owing to its wide antibacterial spectrum, lack of a residue, and failure to induce bacterial drug resistance, AvBD9 is expected to become a substitute for conventional antibiotics in the livestock and poultry industries. Using the preferred codon of Pichia pastoris, the mature AvBD9 peptide was designed and synthesized, based on the sequence from GenBank. The P. pastoris constitutive expression vector pGHKα was used to construct a pGHKα-AvBD9 recombinant plasmid. Restriction enzyme digestion was performed using SacI and BglII to remove the ampicillin resistance gene, and the plasmid was electrotransformed into P. pastoris GS115. High-expression strains with G418 resistance were screened, and the culture supernatant was analyzed by Tricine-SDS-PAGE and western blot assay to identify target bands of about 6 kDa. A concentrate of the supernatant containing AvBD9 was used for determination of antimicrobial activity. The supernatant concentrate was effective against Escherichia coli, Salmonella paratyphi, Salmonella pullorum, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, and Enterobacter cloacae. The fermentation product of P. pastoris carrying the recombinant AvBD9 plasmid was adjusted to 1.0 × 108 CFU/ml and added to the drinking water of white feather broilers at different concentrations. The daily average weight gain and immune organ indices in broilers older than 7 days were significantly improved by the AvBD9 treatment.

An improved SCGM(1,m) model for multi-point deformation analysis

        Qi-jie Wang,Chang-cheng Wang,Rong-an Xie,Xin-qing Zhang,Jian-jun Zhu 한국지질과학협의회 2014 Geosciences Journal Vol.18 No.4

Considering the deformation of discrete monitoringpoints within the same deformable body usually have similar physicalproperties and tend to undergoing identical dynamic process, jointmodelling of the deformation processes of these points in time domainare expected to generate better results. Yin et al. (1997) first extendedthe multi-variable grey model-system cloud grey model SCGM(1,m),with obviously superior modelling mechanism than single-variablegrey model, to multi-point deformation modelling. However, thismodel is still not widely recognized and its applications remain verylimited in the field of deformation analysis. The objective of this studyis to demonstrate the capability of the SCGM(1,m) model, to presenttwo revisions to further improve the performance of the model andto draw more attention to the community of deformation analysis. We first introduce the principles of the SCGM(1,m) model in theanalysis and prediction of deformation surveys. Two practicaltechniques, namely residuals re-modelling and linear regressionadjustment, are then presented to improve the SCGM(1,m) model. Combined with slope monitoring data, the modelling with the originaland the improved SCGM(1,m) models by residuals re-modellingand linear regression adjustment are illustrated. The mean relativeprediction errors decrease from 5.89% to 3.54% and 2.69%, whenthe two refining techniques are applied, respectively, indicating relativeimprovements of 39.9% and 54.3%.

      • A new geopolymeric grout blended completely weathered granite with blast-furnace slag

        Zhang, Jian,Li, Shucai,Li, Zhaofeng,Li, Hengtian,Du, Junqi,Gao, Yifan,Liu, Chao,Qi, Yanhai,Wang, Wenlong Techno-Press 2020 Advances in concrete construction Vol.9 No.6

In order to reduce the usage of cement slurry in grouting engineering and consume the tunnel excavation waste soil, a new geopolymeric grouting material (GGM) was prepared by combine completely weathered granite (CWG) and blast-furnace slag (BFS), which can be applied to in-situ grouting treatment of completely weathered granite strata. The results showed CWG could participate in the geopolymerization process, and GGM slurry has the characteristics of short setting time, high flowability, low viscosity, high stone rate and high mechanical strength, and a design method of grouting pressure based on viscosity evolution was proposed. By adjusted the content of completely weathered granite and alkali activator concentration, the setting time of GGM were ranged from 5 to 30 minutes, the flowability was more than 23.5 cm, the stone rate was higher than 90%, the compressive strength of 28 days were 7.8-16.9 MPa, the porosity were below 30%. This provides a novel grouting treatment and utilizing excavated soil of tunnels in the similar strata.
