Free vibration of FGM plates with porosity by a shear deformation theory with four variables

In this work, a high order hyperbolic shear deformation theory with four variables is presented to study the vibratory behavior of functionally graduated plates. The field of displacement of the theory used in this work is introduced indeterminate integral variables. In addition, the effect of porosity is studied. It is assumed that the material characteristics of the porous FGM plate, varies continuously in the direction of thickness as a function of the power law model in terms of volume fractions of constituents taken into account the homogeneous distribution of porosity. The equations of motion are obtained using the principle of virtual work. An analytical solution of the Navier type for free vibration analysis is obtained for a FGM plate for simply supported boundary conditions. A comparison of the results obtained with those of the literature is made to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the present theory. It can be concluded from his results that the current theory is not only accurate but also simple for the presentation of the response of free vibration and the effect of porosity on the latter.

This paper presents a part of North Africa/Europe collaboration results in education to develop project-oriented courses in power electronics and motor drive field. The course aims to teach Permanent Magnet motor drives close to a real world project of significant size and depth so as to be motivational, namely mobile robot project. Particular skills, student will acquire, are those relative to the detailed design and implementation of PM motor controllers in DSP based rapid prototyping environment. Simulation work is completed using graphical modeling tools in Simulink/Plecs, while real-time implementation is achieved by means of eZdspF2812 board and Simulink/TI C2000 Embedded Target tools. This flexible development environment fit the robot traction system very well and provides exactly the functionality necessary for an efficient PM motor drives teaching as demonstrated by a set of simulation and experiments.

Leveraged Buy Out: Does the Arrival of New Targets Increase the Agents' Incentives?

This paper studies the financial capital structure in Leveraged Buy Out (LBO) acquisitions. It analyzes how the arrival of new targets improves the agents' incentives when there is asymmetric information. The entrepreneur and the LBO investor exert unobservable efforts to enhance the productivity of their project. We show that there are no debt-equity contracts that induce the entrepreneur and the LBO investor to provide the first-best levels of efforts. The decision of the LBO fund to exit prematurely the entrepreneur's project increases the agents' incentives. We also find that the entrepreneur's incentives increase with the amount of debt and when the LBO investor promises her the whole compensation cost.

The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of water deficit and recovery on growth, photosynthesis and water relations in four Medicago laciniata populations from saharian (Ml-90), inferior arid (Ml-204), superior arid (Ml-306) and semi-arid (Ml-376) Tunisian regions. After 28 d of sowing with ample irrigation, the plants were subjected to 4 water regimes: optimal irrigation (100% of field capacity, FC), moderate drought (75% FC), severe drought (35% FC) and rewatering (plants submitted to 35% FC during 7 d, afterwards the plants were rewatered to 100% FC). Harvest was carried out after 28 d of treatments. The drought tolerance in M. laciniata populations was found to be increased particularly with increasing temperatures of collection site of the population. The Ml-204 and Ml-90 populations used mainly physiological strategies for survival under moderate water shortage. Higher severe drought tolerance in both signaled populations would be related to their lower photosynthesis metabolic impairment, relatively higher leaf RWC and greater osmotic potential decrease. The results suggest that plants with low values of leaf features are likely to maintain higher leaf RWC under sever drought. The largest decrease of osmotic potential was found associated with the solute accumulations such as proline and K+.
Indirect Position and Speed Sensing for PMSM Sensorless Control

This paper present a position and speed estimation algorithm based on measurement of phase currents and voltages and a pre-knowledge of the machine model. The aim is to elaborate an accurate estimator in accordance with some specifications, especially the ability to cancel any initial position error and robustness toward a dc-disturbance measured within the electric measurements. In earlier work, an old version of this method was investigated for open-loop position and speed estimation of permanent magnet motor. The present work provides complete description and Real-Time implementation of the method incorporated into sensorless vector control.

Speaking consists to a large extend in making statements about objects: ‘”The babyis asleep”, “The gameis over”, etc. Yet objects can be described in many ways: it, the library, the first building to the right, etc. The way how an object is described or referred to depends to a large extent on the context, i.e. the set of elements (physically or mentally present in the listeners mind) with which the target can be confused (think of different kind of round objects you can purchase in a sporting goods retail store). Hence, the question: how does a speakers decide on the information to convey (content) and on the linguistic resource to use (expression)? This implies among other things pragmatic knowledge, which is often learned on the basis of correlations. People realize that changes of the situation often reflect in language: different inputs (ideas, objects of a scene) yielding different outputs, i.e. linguistic forms. We present here a setting that allows for this kind of learning. It is a web-based application that generates a scene and various descriptions of its components. Users can change the scene and watch how these choices affect (or not) the linguistic form. The descriptions are produced in English and French, and they are rated in terms of communicative adequacy. This should allow students not only to learn to produce correct sentences, but also help them to realize which one of them is, communicatively speaking, the most adequate form.
