In vitro Removal of Deoxynivalenol and T-2 Toxin by Lactic Acid Bacteria

        Zhong-Yi Zou,Zhi-Fei He,Hong-Jun Li,Peng-Fei Han,Xiao Meng,Yu Zhang,Fang Zhou,Ke-Pei Ouyang,Xi-Yue Chen,Jun Tang 한국식품과학회 2012 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.21 No.6

Five strains of lactic acid bacteria were tested for their ability to remove deoxynivalenol (DON) and T-2toxin from MRS broth. The ability of Lactobacillus plantarum strain 102 (LP102) was the strongest among 5strains after incubation at 37oC for 72 h. The mode of removal was physical binding, rather than biotransformation. The abilities were not significantly different between when removing single toxin and when removing mixed toxins by viable cells of LP102. DON and T-2 toxin released from LP102 viable cell-toxin complexes were 28.22±1.55 and 35.42±2.02% of total bound toxins respectively after 3times of wash with posphate buffered saline, respectively, those were 4.59±0.86 and 5.59±1.47% after incubation with simulated gastric fluid (SGF) at 37oC for 4 h, and 6.86±0.81 and 9.04±1.13% after incubation with simulated intestinal fluid (SIF) at 37oC for 4 h, respectively.

Numerical Study of Ion Orbits in EAST Plasmas with a Current-reversal Equilibrium Configuration

        Yi-jun Zhong,Xue-yu Gong,Ye-ming Hu,Xin-xia Li 한국물리학회 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.11

By solving the Grad-Shafranov equation in the cylindrical coordinate system, we numerically obtain the tokamak plasma equilibrium configurations of the conventional mode and the high-to-lowfield- side current-reversal equilibrium mode (HL-CREC) by using the discharge parameters for the Experimental Advanced Superconductor Tokamak (EAST). By coupling with the particle’s motion equation, we obtain the orbits of trapped particles and passing particles under both equilibrium configurations. We find that the orbit of the passing particle in the HL-CREC is wholly confined on the low-field side and that the half width of the banana orbit of trapped particles increases greatly compared with those in the conventional equilibrium configuration. In addition, the ion loss is studied based on the Monte Carlo method. The results show that for ions near the plasma edge, a much high ion loss rate can be obtained in HL-CREC than that in the conventional equilibrium configuration.

Molecular Characterization of an Isolate of Bean Common Mosaic Virus First Identified in Gardenia Using Metatranscriptome and Small RNA Sequencing

        Zhong-Tian Xu,Hai-Tao Weng,Jian-Ping Chen,Chuan-Xi Zhang,Jun-Min Li,Yi-Yuan Li 한국식물병리학회 2024 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.40 No.1

Gardenia (<i>Gardenia jasminoides</i>) is a popular and economically vital plant known for its ornamental and medicinal properties. Despite its widespread cultivation, there has been no documentation of plant viruses on gardenia yet. In the present study, gardenia leaves exhibiting symptoms of plant viral diseases were sampled and sequenced by both metatranscriptome and small RNA sequencing. As a consequence, bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) was identified in gardenia for the first time and named BCMV-gardenia. The full genome sequence of BCMV-gardenia is 10,054 nucleotides (nt) in length (excluding the poly (A) at the 3′ termini), encoding a large polyprotein of 3,222 amino acids. Sequence analysis showed that the N-termini of the polyprotein encoded by BCMV-gardenia is less conserved when compared to other BCMV isolates, whereas the C-termini is the most conserved. Maximum likelihood phylogenetic analysis showed that BCMV-gardenia was clustered closely with other BCMV isolates identified outside the leguminous plants. Our results indicated that the majority of BCMV-gardenia virus-derived small interfering RNAs (vsiRNAs) were 21 nt and 22 nt, with 21 nt being more abundant. The first nucleotide at the 5′ termini of vsiRNAs derived from BCMV-gardenia preferred U and A. The ratio of vsiRNAs derived from sense (51.1%) and antisense (48.9%) strands is approaching, and the distribution of vsiRNAs along the viral genome is generally even, with some hot spots forming in local regions. Our findings could provide new insights into the diversity, evolution, and host expansion of BCMV and contribute to the prevention and treatment of this virus.

Optical Properties of Zinc-oxide Films Determined Using Spectroscopic Ellipsometry with Various Dispersion Models

        Zhong-Hong Dai,Jie Shao,Yi-Ming Chen,Yu-Xiang Zheng,Jia-Da Wu,Liang-Yao Chen,Rong-Jun Zhang 한국물리학회 2009 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.55 No.3

In this work, we have studied the optical properties of wurtizite zinc-oxide films grown on silicon (100) substrates by means of pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Spectroscopic ellipsometry and three dispersion models, namely, the Sellmeier, Cauchy, and Forouhi-Bloomer models, were applied for determining the optical constants of the ZnO thin films. A comparison was made between two samples that were deposited for 30 minutes (sample I) and 60 minutes (sample II), respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that there are two types of preferred-orientation, i.e., (101) and (100) orientations for sample I and II, respectively. Results show that the Cauchy model gives the best fit for the samples with least root mean square error (RMSE) whereas the Forouhi-Bloomer model is most suitable for the data analysis in both the transparent and the absorption regions. The optical properties extracted from different dispersion models have been compared with the data reported in the literature. The results given in this work show that different dispersion models should be applied to obtain the optical constants In this work, we have studied the optical properties of wurtizite zinc-oxide films grown on silicon (100) substrates by means of pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Early Enteral Nutrition and Sepsis-Associated Acute Kidney Injury: A Propensity Score Matched Cohort Study Based on the MIMIC-III Database

        Jun Wang,Li Jiang,Sheng Ding,Si-Yi He,Shun-Bi Liu,Zhong-Jie Lu,Yuan-Zhang Liu,Li-Wen Hou,Bin-Su Wang,Jin-Bao Zhang 연세대학교의과대학 2023 Yonsei medical journal Vol.64 No.4

Purpose: We aimed to analyze the optimal timing of enteral nutrition (EN) in the treatment of sepsis and its effect on sepsis-asso ciated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI.)Materials and Methods: The MIMIC-III database was employed to identify patients with sepsis who had received EN. With AKI as the primary outcome variable, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were utilized to calculate the optimal cut-off time of early EN (EEN). Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to control confounding effects. Logistic regressions and propen sity score-based inverse probability of treatment weighting were utilized to assess the robustness of our findings. Comparisons within the EEN group were performed. Results: 2364 patients were included in our study. With 53 hours after intensive care units (ICU) admission as the cut-off time of EEN according to the ROC curve, 1212 patients were assigned to the EEN group and the other 1152 to the delayed EN group. The risk of SA-AKI was reduced in the EEN group (odds ratio 0.319, 95% confidence interval 0.245–0.413, p<0.001). The EEN patients re ceived fewer volumes (mL) of intravenous fluid (IVF) during their ICU stay (3750 mL vs. 5513.23 mL, p<0.001). The mediating ef fect of IVF was significant (p<0.001 for the average causal mediation effect). No significant differences were found within the EEN group (0–48 hours vs. 48–53 hours), except that patients initiating EN within 48 hours spent fewer days in ICU and hospital. Conclusion: EEN is associated with decreased risk of SA-AKI, and this beneficial effect may be proportionally mediated by IVF volume.

Effect of Li on the microstructure and electrical properties of (K_0.17Na_0.83)NbO_3 lead-free piezoceramics

        Guo-Zhong Zang,Yan Wang,Xiu-Jie Yi,Juan Du,Zhi-Jun Xu 한국물리학회 2011 Current Applied Physics Vol.11 No.2

Lead-free (K_0.17Na_(0.83-x)Li_x)NbO_3 piezoceramics were synthesized by conventional solid state sintering and the effect of Li on the microstructure and electrical properties was investigated. The experimental results show that 4 mol% Li doping facilitates the grain growth and increases the density of the ceramics. The measurement of dielectric properties reveals that the orthorhombic-tetragonal (T_(O-T)) and tetragonalcubic (T_C) phase transition temperatures change linearly with increasing Li content and the sample with x = 0.06 exhibits the highest T_C of 429 ℃ and lowest T_(O-T) of 181 ℃. Because of the wide apart of T_(O-T) from room temperature, no polymorphic phase structures were obtained and the piezoelectric strain coeffi-cient d_33 and piezoelectric coupling constant k_p varied between low values of 57, 61 pC/N and 0.18, 0.24,respectively with less than 6 mol% Li doping.

HIV-negative plasmablastic lymphoma: report of 8 cases and a comprehensive review of 394 published cases

        Ya-Jun Li,Ji-Wei Li,Kai-Lin Chen,Jin Li,Mei-Zuo Zhong,Xian-Ling Liu,Ping-Yong Yi,Hui Zhou 대한혈액학회 2020 Blood Research Vol.55 No.1

BackgroundHuman immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is a rare entity of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The clinicopathological features of and optimal treatment for HIV-negative PBL remain largely unknown.MethodsTo gain insight into this distinct lymphoma, we summarized the clinicopathologic charac-teristics of 8 unpublished HIV-negative PBLs and performed a comprehensive review of 394 published cases.ResultsOf the 8 unpublished PBLs, the median patient age was 53.0 years. Four patients pre-sented with stage IV disease. All 8 patients showed a plasma cell-like immunophenotype. Of the six patients who received anthracycline-based chemotherapy, including two who received bortezomib, three patients achieved a continuous complete response, two pa-tients died due to disease progression, and one patient was lost to follow-up. The other two patients achieved continuous complete response after receiving chemotherapy com-bined with radiotherapy and surgery. Of the 402 patients, the majority were male, with a mean age of 58.0 years. EBV infection was detected in 55.7% of the patients. The median survival times of the patients who received CHOP or CHOP-like regimens and intensive regimens were not reached and 23.0 months, respectively, and the intensive regimen did not improve the survival outcome (P=0.981). Multivariate analysis showed that EBER remained the only independent factor affecting overall survival (OS).ConclusionHIV-negative PBL is a distinct entity with a predilection for elderly and immunosup-pressed individuals. Intensive chemotherapy had no apparent survival benefits over the CHOP regimen in terms of OS; the prognosis of this disease is poor with current chemo-therapy methods, and treatment remains a challenge.
