To retrospectively compare treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) using gelatin sponges or microspheres plus lipiodol-doxorubicin vs. doxorubicin-loaded drug-eluting beads (DEB). A total of 158 patients with HCC received TACE from November 2010 to November 2011 were enrolled in this study, including 64 (40.5%) received TACE with lipiodol-doxorubicin and gelatin sponges (group A), 41 (25.9%) received TACE with lipiodol-doxorubicin and microspheres (group B), and 53 (33.5%) received TACE with doxorubicin-loaded DEB (group C). Tumor response and adverse events (AEs) were evaluated. No significant difference was found at baseline among the three groups. The doxorubicin dosage in group C wassignificantly (p < 0.001) higher compared to the dose used in groups A or B (median, 50 mg vs. 31 mg or 25 mg). Significantly (p < 0.001) more patients in group C achieved complete response compared to those in groups A or B (32.1% vs. 6.3% or 2.4%). Significantly (p < 0.001) less patients in group C had progressive disease compared to those in groups A or B (34.0% vs. 57.8% or 68.3%). Minor AEs were more common in groups A and B compared to group C, with rates of 54.7%, 34.1%, and 5.7%, respectively. In patients with HCC, TACE with DEB offers better safety and efficacy profiles compared to either TACE with gelatin sponges or TACE with microspheres.

The widening project on Freeway No.1 in Taiwan has a total length of roughly 14 kilometers, and includes three special bridges, namely a 216 m long-span bridge crossing the original freeway, an F-bentdouble decked bridge in a co-constructed section, and a steel and prestressed concrete composite bridge. This study employed in-situ monitoring in conjunction with numerical modeling to establish a real-timemonitoring system for the three bridges. In order to determine the initial static and dynamic behavior of thereal bridges, forced vibration experiments, in-situ static load experiments, and dynamic load experimentswere first carried out on the newly-constructed bridges before they went into use. Structural models of thebridges were then established using the finite element method, and in-situ vehicle load weight, arrangement, and speed were taken into consideration when performing comparisons employing data obtained fromexperimental measurements. The results showed consistency between the analytical simulations andexperimental data. After determining a bridge's initial state, the proposed in-situ monitoring system, which isemployed in conjunction with the established finite element model, can be utilized to assess the safety of abridge's members, providing useful reference information to bridge management agencies.
Medullary sponge kidney on retrograde pyelography

A woman aged 31 had recurrent urinary tract infection with bloody urine. A series imageof medullary sponge kidney presented by intravenous urography (IVU) was detecteddynamically by retrograde pyelography (RP). Other than ultrasonography and IVU,RP is also a reliable method to detect medullary sponge kidney.

Researchers usually examine the quality of survey data by several conventional measures of reliability and validity. However, those measures are mainly designed to examine the quality of an individual measurement, rather than the quality of a data set as a whole. There is a relative lack of methods for evaluation of the overall data quality. This paper attempts to fill this gap. We propose using interviewers’ assessments as one of criteria for evaluating the overall data quality. Interviewers are the ones who literally conduct and thus directly observe interviews. Taiwan’s Election and Democratization Studies (TEDS) have required interviewers to assess how trustworthy the responses of each of their interviewees are, and to provide several descriptions about the process and environment of the interviews. We use this information to evaluate the data quality of TEDS surveys and compare it with the results from the conventional test-retest method. The findings are that the interviewer assessment is a fair indicator of the overall reliability of attitudinal questions but not a good indicator when factual questions are examined. Regarding the evaluation of data validity, more data is required to see whether or not interviewers’ assessment is informative in terms of data quality.

The Environmental Policy Stringency in Taiwan and Its Challenges on Green Economy Transition
Mu-Xing Lin,Tsung-Yi Lee,Kuei-Tien Chou 서울대학교 사회발전연구소 2018 Journal of Asian Sociology Vol.47 No.3
With the aim of promoting green economic transition on a national level, this study applies the environmental policy stringency index, developed by OECD, to analyse Taiwan’s energy policies between 1990 and 2015, and compare results with those of other OECD countries. After examining the institutional foundation and regulatory tools in Taiwan’s green economy transition, we found that green transition in Taiwan currently faces eight major challenges in common with other OECD member states. We argue that the government of Taiwan needs to make adjustments to its environmental policy or follow OECD trends and strengthen environmental regulations. However, we also argue that the goal of green economic transition will never be easy to reach as long as a nation remains heavily dependent on “non-market mechanisms.” The establishment of the OECD environmental policy stringency provides an international standard by which individual countries can compare themselves to measure their development.

A direct insulator-quantum Hall (I-QH) transition corresponds to a crossover/transition from the insulating regime to a high Landau level filling factor ν > 2 QH state. Such a transition has been attracting a great deal of both experimental and theoretical interests. In this study, we present three different two-dimensional electron systems (2DESs) which are in the vicinity of nanoscaled scatterers. All these three devices exhibit a direct I-QH transition, and the transport properties under different nanaoscaled scatterers are discussed.
