Systematical changes in diffraction efficiencies through Ag-photodoping into amorphous GeSe thin films

        Yeo, Jong-Bin,Yun, Sang-Don,Kim, Tae-Wan,Lee, Hyun-Yong Elsevier 2008 Journal of non-crystalline solids Vol.354 No.52

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>It is well known that the phenomenon of Ag-photodoping into amorphous (<I>a</I>-) chalcogenide film depends on film thickness (<I>d</I>). Herein, we report that the effects of Ag-photodoping into <I>a</I>-GeSe thin films exhibit a systematical change dependent on <I>d</I> using a holographic exposure (HeCd laser) and the measurement of diffraction efficiency (<I>η</I>) in real time. The <I>η</I>-kinetics of Ag-photodoping in the sample structure of an <I>a</I>-GeSe/Ag/<I>p</I>-type Si substrate is divided into two steps. A <I>photodarkening-dominant process</I> related to the generation of valence-alternation pairs (VAPs) in the chalcogenide explains the first step while a <I>doping-dominant process</I> accounts for the second step. In particular, we confirmed that the <I>d</I>-dependencies of the <I>η</I>-kinetics are classified into 3 groups: (A) <I>d</I><2<I>d</I>P; (B) 2<I>d</I>P⩽<I>d</I><4<I>d</I>P; (C) <I>d</I>>4<I>d</I>P, where <I>d</I>P indicates the penetration depth of the HeCd laser. In group A, the Ag-doping process occurs simultaneously with the darkening process. In group C, the <I>η</I>-kinetics results from the darkening process only. Contrarily, in group B, the <I>η</I>-kinetics exhibits a sharp distinction between the photodarkening process and the Ag-doping process, and in particular, <I>η</I>M increases almost linearly with an increase in <I>d</I>.</P>

Gastric Angiolipoma Resected with Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection

        Sang Myung Yeo,Jae Kwang Lee,Hyun Soo Kim,Chang Geun Park,Jae Kwon Jung,Dae Jin Kim,Yun Jin Chung,Han Jun Ryu 대한소화기내시경학회 2021 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.54 No.3

Angiolipoma is a benign fatty neoplasm that has components of proliferating blood vessels. These types of lesions commonly occurin the subcutaneous tissue of the limbs and trunk. Angiolipoma in the gastrointestinal tract is extremely rare, and the final diagnosisgenerally depends on histological examination of the excised biopsy. In most previously reported cases, the lesions were diagnosedand treated with surgical management. In this study, we report a case of gastric angiolipoma of approximately 4 cm in size that wasdiagnosed and treated with endoscopic submucosal dissection.

      • Microwave Absorption of λ/4 Wave Absorbers Using High Permeability Magnetic Composites in Quasi-microwave Frequency Band

        Yeo-Chun Yun,Kyung-Sub Lee,Sang-Woo Kim,Sung-Soo Kim 한국자기학회 2007 한국자기학회 학술연구발표회 논문개요집 Vol.- No.-

For the aim of thin electromagnetic wave absorbers used in quasi-microwave frequency band, this study proposes the high-permeability magnetic composite sheets of quarter wavelength thickness (λ/4 spacer) coated with resistive film of 377 Ω/sq (impedance transformer). For the λ/4 spacer, flexible magnetic composite sheets of Fe??Si9.5Al5.5flake particles aligned in rubber matrix are prepared by conventional magnetic composite fabrication technique. Due to high permeability and high permittivity of the composite sheets, λ/4 thickness can be reduced as low as 0.5 ㎜ in 2 ㎓. The microwave absorbance (determined at 2 ㎓) of the magnetic composite sheets are found to be -4.6 ㏈ (65% power absorption) at a λ/4 thickness of 0.5 ㎜. By coating the conductive paste (graphite and carbon black dispersed in polymer resin matrix) on the λ/4 spacer (thickness = 0.5㎜), the microwave absorbance is greatly improved. When the sheet resistance of coated films is close to 377 Ω/sq, the reflection loss is reduced to -11 ㏈ (90% power absorption). This is attributed to the wave impedance matching led by the resistive film of free-space impedance combined with a λ/4 thickness of high-permeability magnetic spacer. It is, therefore, proposed that the resistive film/magnetic composite structure with controlled electrical properties and thickness can be useful as thin microwave absorbers used in quasi-microwave frequency band.

      • Roles of chitinase 3-like 1 in the development of cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and inflammatory diseases

        Yeo, In Jun,Lee, Chong-Kil,Han, Sang-Bae,Yun, Jaesuk,Hong, Jin Tae Elsevier 2019 Pharmacology & therapeutics Vol.203 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Chitinase 3-like 1 (CHI3L1) is a secreted glycoprotein that mediates inflammation, macrophage polarization, apoptosis, and carcinogenesis. The expression of CHI3L1 is strongly increased by various inflammatory and immunological conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and several cancers. However, its physiological and pathophysiological roles in the development of cancer and neurodegenerative and inflammatory diseases remain unclear. Several studies have reported that CHI3L1 promotes cancer proliferation, inflammatory cytokine production, and microglial activation, and that multiple receptors, such as advanced glycation end product, syndecan-1/αVβ3, and IL-13Rα2, are involved. In addition, the pro-inflammatory action of CHI3L1 may be mediated via the protein kinase B and phosphoinositide-3 signaling pathways and responses to various pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, and interferon-γ. Therefore, CHI3L1 could contribute to a vast array of inflammatory diseases. In this article, we review recent findings regarding the roles of CHI3L1 and suggest therapeutic approaches targeting CHI3L1 in the development of cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, and inflammatory diseases.</P>

      • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Postoperative Day due to Pulmonary Embolism

        Yeo-Ul Yun,Sang-Min Shim,Yun-Sook Kim 순천향대학교 순천향의학연구소 2015 Journal of Soonchunhyang Medical Science Vol.21 No.2

Cardiac arrest one day after cesarean section is extremely rare. Obstetrical clinicians have low experience to these serious situations necessitating immediate first aid and knowledge of its differential diagnosis. A 33-year-old woman underwent elective repeat cesarean section at 38 weeks of gestation under spinal anesthesia. The patient underwent uneventful course on that day. Loss of consciousness occurred one day after cesarean section during her first ambulation. Immediate cardiac compression was performed and eventually resulted in good recovery of her heartbeat. Her condition was suitable disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). She developed acute ischemic pancreatitis after cardiac arrest. We describe the consideration of amniotic fluid embolism with DIC as most appropriate in this case. To our knowledge, our case is one of the most dangerous conditions after the cesarean section. Here, we report our case with a review of literatures.

      • Role of hypoxia-mediated cellular prion protein functional change in stem cells and potential application in angiogenesis

        Yun, Seung Pil,Han, Yong-Seok,Lee, Jun Hee,Yoon, Yeo Min,Yun, Chul Won,Rhee, Peter,Lee, Sang Hun SPANDIDOS PUBLICATIONS 2017 MOLECULAR MEDICINE REPORTS Vol.16 No.5

<P>Cellular prion protein (PrPC) can replace other pivotal molecules due to its interaction with several partners in performing a variety of important biological functions that may differ between embryonic and mature stem cells. Recent studies have revealed major advances in elucidating the putative role of PrPC in the regulation of stem cells and its application in stem cell therapy. What is special about PrPC is that its expression may be regulated by hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α, which is the transcriptional factor of cellular response to hypoxia. Hypoxic conditions have been known to drive cellular responses that can enhance cell survival, differentiation and angiogenesis through adaptive processes. Our group recently reported hypoxia-enhanced vascular repair of endothelial colony-forming cells on ischemic injury. Hypoxia-induced AKT/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 phosphorylation eventually increases neovasculogenesis. In stem cell biology, hypoxia promotes the expression of growth factors. According to other studies, aspects of tissue regeneration and cell function are influenced by hypoxia, which serves an essential role in stem cell HIF-1α signaling. All these data suggest the possibility that hypoxia-mediated PrPC serves an important role in angiogenesis. Therefore, the present review summarizes the characteristics of PrPC, which is produced by HIF-1α in hypoxia, as it relates to angiogenesis.</P>

Calibration of High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Values From the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Data, 2008 to 2015

        Yun, Yeo-Min,Song, Junghan,Ji, Misuk,Kim, Jeong-Ho,Kim, Yongkang,Park, Taesung,Song, Sang Hoon,Park, Seungman,Kim, Min Jin,Nho, Sun Jin,Oh, Kyung Won The Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine 2017 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.37 No.1

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>For correct interpretation of the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), the values should be comparable to reference values. We aimed to suggest a way to calibrate KNHANES HDL-C data from 2008 to 2015 to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reference method values.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>We derived three calibration equations based on comparisons between the HDL-C values of the KNHANES laboratory and the CDC reference method values in 2009, 2012, and 2015 using commutable frozen serum samples. The selection of calibration equation for correcting KNHANES HDL-C in each year was determined by the accuracy-based external quality assurance results of the KNHANES laboratory.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Significant positive biases of HDL-C values were observed in all years (2.85-9.40%). We created the following calibration equations: standard HDL-C=0.872×[original KNHANES HDL-C]+2.460 for 2008, 2009, and 2010; standard HDL-C=0.952×[original KNHANES HDL-C]+1.096 for 2012, 2013, and 2014; and standard HDL-C=1.01×[original KNHANES HDL-C]-3.172 for 2011 and 2015. We calibrated the biases of KNHANES HDL-C data using the calibration equations.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Since the KNHANES HDL-C values (2008-2015) showed substantial positive biases compared with the CDC reference method values, we suggested using calibration equations to correct KNHANES data from these years. Since the necessity for correcting the biases depends on the characteristics of research topics, each researcher should determine whether to calibrate KNHANES HDL-C data or not for each study.</P>

      • Validation of QTLs associated with spikelets per panicle and grain weight in rice

        Yeo, Sang-Min,Yun, Yeo-Tae,Kim, Dong-Min,Chung, Chong-Tae,Ahn, Sang-Nag Cambridge University Press 2014 Plant genetic resources Vol.12 No.1

<P>In this study, a near-isogenic line (BC4F10) CR572 developed by introgressing a chromosomal segment from <I>Oryza rufipogon</I> (accession no. 105491) into the <I>Oryza sativa</I> subsp. <I>japonica</I> cv. Hwaseong was found to exhibit a significant increase in the number of spikelets per panicle (SPP) and grain weight compared with the recurrent parent Hwaseong. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis in F2 generation derived from the cross between CR572 and Hwaseong revealed that two QTLs, <I>qSPP1</I> and <I>qTGW1</I>, were linked to a simple sequence repeat marker, RM283, on chromosome 1. The additive effect of the <I>O. rufipogon</I> allele at <I>qSPP1</I> was 13 SPP, and 21.6% of the phenotypic variance was explained by the segregation of RM283. The <I>qTGW1</I> QTL explained 19.1% of the phenotypic variance for grain weight. Substitution mapping was carried out with five F3 lines derived from F2 plants having informative recombination breakpoints within the target region. Substitution mapping indicated the linkage of <I>qSPP1</I> and <I>qTGW1</I>. The grain yield of CR572 was 18.2 and 15.8% higher than that of Hwaseong at two locations, respectively, mainly due to the increase in 1000-grain weight and SPP. These results are very useful for QTL cluster transfer by molecular marker-assisted selection in rice breeding programmes and for QTL gene cloning by map-based cloning.</P>
