Radiation therapy is an important treatment for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). However, how to promote radiation sensitivity in HNSCC remains a challenge. This study aimed to investigate the radiosensitizing effects of fenofibrate on HNSCC and explore the underlying mechanisms. HNSCC cell lines CNE-2 and KB were subjected to ionizing radiation (IR), in the presence or absence of fenofibrate treatment. Cell growth and survival, apoptosis and cell cycle were evaluated. In addition, CNE-2 cells were xenografted into nude mice and subjected to IR and/or fenofibrate treatment. The expression of cyclinB and CDK1 was detected by Western blotting. Our results showed that fenofibrate efficiently radiosensitized HNSCC cells and xenografts in mice, and induced apoptosis and G2/M arrest via reducing the activity of the CDK1/cyclinB1 kinase complex. These data suggest that fenofibrate could be a promising radiosensitizer for HNSCC radiotherapy.

Cadmium manganese telluride (CdMnTe or CMT), a compound semiconductor, is considered a promising material for the fabrication of high-performance room-temperature x-ray and gamma-ray detectors. The presence of material defects, e.g., high density of Te inclusions, has been a long-standing issue in CMT crystals grown by various Bridgman methods, since these defects degrade the device performance via charge-trapping. To address this issue, we employed the modified floating-zone method (MFZ) to grow CMT crystals and obtained as-grown crystals free of Te inclusions. This represents a new and distinct feature, absence of Te inclusions, compared to CMT crystals grown by Bridgman methods. White-beam x-ray diffraction topography (WBXDT) measurements demonstrated the existence of a high stress field within the MFZ-grown CMT crystals, which originates from the steep temperature gradient near the growth interface. Furthermore, we achieved a resistivity of 109 Ωcm for the MFZ-grown CMT crystals. The low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements show that the intensity of the dislocation-related Y band is much higher than that of the principal exciton peaks, (D0,X) and (A0,X), confirming that the crystalline quality is affected by the high stress field. A long-term in-situ or post-growth thermal annealing will help to release such stress to improve the crystalline quality.
HGO and neural network based integral sliding mode control for PMSMs with uncertainty

This paper proposes an integral sliding mode control that integrates a high-gain observer (HGO) and a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with uncertainty. Since the second-order motion equation of the PMSM is used to improve the control performance, the speed derivative, which cannot be measured directly, is required. Thus, the HGO is designed to estimate the unknown state (speed derivative). In addition, the RBFNN is designed to approximate the compounded disturbance including the lumped disturbance of system and the HGO error effect. Unlike previous studies, the output of the RBFNN is compensated by both the controller and the HGO to improve the system robustness and observer accuracy. The sliding function and the HGO error are both taken into account in the RBFNN to explicitly guarantee the stability of the whole system. To demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method, comparative simulations and experiments were carried out in different cases.
Five new species of Stenothemus Bourgeois from Guangxi, China (Coleoptera, Cantharidae)

Five new species of Stenothemus Bourgeois, 1907 from Guangxi, China are described, S. normalis sp. nov., S. flavicans sp. nov., S. nigripennis sp. nov., S. elongaticeps sp. nov. and S. maculaticollis sp. nov.. They are illus trated with habitus photos and aedeagi of males, also abdominal sternites VIII and internal genitalia of females. A key for the identification of the above species is provided.
COINCIDENCE THEOREMS FOR NONCOMPACT ℜℭ-MAPS IN ABSTRACT CONVEX SPACES WITH APPLICATIONS

In this paper, a coincidence theorem for a compact ${\Re}\mathfrak{C}$-map is proved in an abstract convex space. Several more general coincidence theorems for noncompact ${\Re}\mathfrak{C}$-maps are derived in abstract convex spaces. Some examples are given to illustrate our coincidence theorems. As applications, an alternative theorem concerning the existence of maximal elements, an alternative theorem concerning equilibrium problems and a minimax inequality for three functions are proved in abstract convex spaces.
Effects of Ga-doping on the microstructure and magnetic properties of MnBi alloys

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The low temperature phase Mn<SUB>55</SUB>Bi<SUB>45-<I>x</I> </SUB>Ga<SUB> <I>x</I> </SUB> (<I>x</I> = 0, 1, 3, 5, and 10) alloys were prepared by induction melting process with subsequent low temperature annealing. The effects of Ga-doping on the crystal structure and magnetic properties of the alloys were systematically studied. The room temperature coercivities of Mn<SUB>55</SUB>Bi<SUB>45-<I>x</I> </SUB>Ga<SUB> <I>x</I> </SUB> after ball milling increased from 1.43 T for <I>x</I> = 0 to 1.66 T for <I>x</I> = 5, while the saturation magnetization decreased from 60.7 Am<SUP>2</SUP>/kg (<I>x</I> = 0) to 45.1 Am<SUP>2</SUP>/kg (<I>x</I> = 5). The maximum energy product (<I>BH</I>)<SUB>max</SUB> of Mn<SUB>55</SUB>Bi<SUB>44</SUB>Ga powders reached 7.87 MGOe. Family of Dual-Input Dual-Buck Inverters Based on Dual-Input Switching Cells

A family of dual-DC-input (DI) dual-buck inverters (DBIs) is proposed by employing a DI switching cell as the input of traditional DBIs. Three power ports, i.e. a low voltage DC input port, a high voltage DC input port and an AC output port, are provided by the proposed DI-DBIs. A low voltage DC source, whose voltage is lower than the peak amplitude of the AC side voltage, can be directly connected to the DI-DBI. This supplies power to the AC side in single-stage power conversion. When compared with traditional DBI-based two-stage DC/AC power systems, the conversion stages are reduced, and the power rating and power losses of the front-end Boost converter of the DI-DBI are reduced. In addition, five voltage-levels are generated with the help of the two DC input ports, which is a benefit in terms of reducing the voltage stresses and switching losses of switches. The topology derivation method, operation principles, modulation strategy and characteristics of the proposed inverter are analyzed in-depth. Experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed DI-DBIs.
IWApriori: An Association Rule Mining and Self-updating Method Based on Weighted Increment

The mining of association rules plays an important role in fault prediction. Many studies have shown that there is an obvious temporal and spatial correlation between the failure records of the cluster system. Therefore, most cluster system failure prediction engines are built based on causal correlation analysis between log events. However, the original system log file usually contains a large number of invalid records (duplicate or non-fault related records), which makes the mining of event correlation extremely difficult and seriously affects the efficiency and accuracy of fault prediction. Therefore, this paper proposes an association rule mining and self-updating method based on weighted increment, named IWApriori (improved weighted Apriori algorithm). The method includes two important steps: 1) log preprocessing; 2) mining and updating of association rules based on improved algorithm IWApriori. This method can effectively improve the rule completeness and realize the efficient mining and updating of rules in the whole life cycle of the system. In addition, we used the real log data set Blue Gene/L to validate our method. The results show that our association rule mining method is better than other methods in terms of time performance, space performance and the effectiveness of mining rules.
Robust Stability Conditions for DMC Controller with Uncertain Time Delay

For Networked Control Systems (NCSs), the conventional Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) may not applicable due to the unknown transmission delay. The uncertain time delay was usually converted to constant time delay by using registers. This paper addresses the stability problem for single-input-single-output (SISO) linear NCSs with uncertain time delay via DMC controller. A novel DMC controller which is effective for such NCSs has been proposed. Applying Jury’s dominant coefficient lemma, the sufficient stability and stabilization conditions are presented. Finally, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the theoretical results.
