      • DOES POL ITICAL PARTICIPATION OF ORANG ASLI(ABORIGINAL PEOPLES) MEETING INTERNATIONAL LAW STANDARDS?

( Yahya ),( Rohaida Nordin ),( Siti Noranizahhafizah Boyman ),( Marshelayanti Mohamad Razali ),( Nafisah Ilham Hussin ),( Mohd Syafiq Zainal ) 한국정책학회 2016 한국정책학회 추계학술발표논문집 Vol.2016 No.-

Ploitical participation plays vital roles in translating the rights to self-determination of indigenous peoles into practice. Article 3 of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) recognized the rights to self-determination of indigenous peoples including the right to freely determine their political status. Irrespective of the current recognition, the rights of indigenous peoples including Orang Asli (Aboriginal Peoples) in the Peninsular of Malaysia are still at stake. The main objective of this study is to critically valuate the compatibility of the rights to political participation of Orang Asli by looking at the international law standards. To achieve the said objective, the discussion will be divided into four parts and conducted using the qualitative approach. In the first part, the study provides information background of Orang Asli includig their brief history and demographic. In the second part, the current study analyses the concept of political participation as part of the rights to self-determination of indigenous peoples under the international law. As the study focuses on the experience of Orang Asli in Malaysia, it will evaluate the political pariticipation of Orang Asli in pursuance to Malaysian law as compared to the international law standards. Ultimately, suitable recommendations and sustainable solutions to improve the political participation of Orang Asli will be presented. This is vital to ensure that the protection of the rights of Orang Asli is compatible with the international law standards. The solutions would also assist the Malaysian State to meet its international law duties and obligations.

General thermo-elastic solution of radially heterogeneous, spherically isotropic rotating sphere

Yahya Bayat,Hamid EkhteraeiToussi 대한기계학회 2015 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.29 No.6

A thick walled rotating spherical object made of transversely isotropic functionally graded materials (FGMs) with general types ofthermo-mechanical boundary conditions is studied. The thermo-mechanical governing equations consisting of decoupled thermal andmechanical equations are represented. The centrifugal body forces of the rotation are considered in the modeling phase. The unsymmetricalthermo-mechanical boundary conditions and rotational body forces are expressed in terms of the Legendre series. The series methodis also implemented in the solution of the resulting equations. The solutions are checked with the known literature and FEM based solutionsof ABAQUS software. The effects of anisotropy and heterogeneity are studied through the case studies and the results are representedin different figures. The newly developed series form solution is applicable to the rotating FGM spherical transversely isotropicvessels having nonsymmetrical thermo-mechanical boundary condition.

ON THE INDEX AND BIDERIVATIONS OF SIMPLE MALCEV ALGEBRAS

Yahya, Abdelaziz Ben,Boulmane, Said Korean Mathematical Society 2022 대한수학회논문집 Vol.37 No.2

Let (M, [ , ]) be a finite dimensional Malcev algebra over an algebraically closed field 𝔽 of characteristic 0. We first prove that, (M, [ , ]) (with [M, M] ≠ 0) is simple if and only if ind(M) = 1 (i.e., M admits a unique (up to a scalar multiple) invariant scalar product). Further, we characterize the form of skew-symmetric biderivations on simple Malcev algebras. In particular, we prove that the simple seven dimensional non-Lie Malcev algebra has no nontrivial skew-symmetric biderivation.

      • A system of several fraction laws for the identification of rotating response of FG shell

        Yahya, Ahmad,Hussain, Muzamal,Khadimallah, Mohamed A.,Khedher, Khaled Mohamed,Al-Basyouni, K.S.,Ghandourah, Emad,Banoqitah, Essam Mohammed,Alshoaibi, Adil Techno-Press 2022 Advances in concrete construction Vol.13 No.3

The problem is formulated by applying the Kirchhoff's conception for shell theory. The longitudinal modal displacement functions are assessed by characteristic beam ones meet clamped-clamped end conditions applied at the shell edges. The fundamental natural frequency of rotating functionally graded cylindrical shells of different parameter versus ratios of length-to-diameter and height-to-diameter for a wide range has been reported and investigated through the study with fractions laws. The frequency first increases and gain maximum value with the increase of circumferential wave mode. By increasing different value of height-to-radius ratio, the resulting backward and forward frequencies increase and frequencies decrease on increasing height-to-radius ratio. Moreover, on increasing the rotating speed, the backward frequencies increases and forward frequencies decreases. The trigonometric frequencies are lower than that of exponential and polynomial frequencies. Stability of a cylindrical shell depends highly on these aspects of material. More the shell material sustains a load due to physical situations, the more the shell is stable. Any predicted fatigue due to burden of vibrations is evaded by estimating their dynamical aspects.

Safety and Efficacy of Permacol Injection in the Treatment of Fecal Incontinence

        Yahya A Al-Abed,Jennifer Ayers,Abraham Ayantunde,Bandipalyam V Praveen 대한대장항문학회 2016 Annals of Coloproctolgy Vol.32 No.2

Purpose: Permacol has been gaining popularity in recent times for the treatment of fecal incontinence (FI). This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of anal submucosal Permacol injection in the treatment of FI. Methods: All consecutive patients who underwent Permacol injection for FI over a 3-year period were included. Patients’ data relating to obstetric history, anorectal/pelvic operations, type of FI, preoperative anorectal physiology results and follow-up details for outcome measures were collected. Preoperative and postoperative Cleveland Clinic Florida Incontinence Scores (CCFISs) were noted. Patients were surveyed by using a telephone questionnaire to assess the quality of life and other outcome measures. Data were analysed using SPSS ver.19.0. Results: Thirty patients (28 females and 2 males) with a median age of 67 years were included in the study. Of those patients, 37%, 50%, and 13% were noted to have passive, mixed and urge FI, respectively. Six of the patients (20%) had repeat Permacol injections, 5 of whom had sustained responses to the first Permacol injection for a mean of 11 months. There was a significant improvement in the CCFIS from a baseline median of 12.5, mean 12.8 (interquartile range [IQR], 6–20), to a median of 3.5, mean 4.8 (IQR, 0–20), P < 0.001. Of the patients surveyed by telephone 89% were satisfied with their overall experience and the improvement in their symptoms following Permacol injections. Conclusion: This study has demonstrated that Permacol injection for the treatment of FI is safe and effective and has no associated major complications. However, the results are not permanent; consequently, a significant proportion of the patients with an initial response may require repeat injections.

Associations between Muscle Strength with Different Measures of Obesity and Lipid Profiles in Men and Women: Results from RaNCD Cohort Study

        Yahya Pasdar,Mitra Darbandi,Elham Mirtaher,Shahab Rezaeian,Farid Najafi,Behrooz Hamzeh 한국임상영양학회 2019 Clinical Nutrition Research Vol.8 No.2

We aimed to examine associations between muscle strength and obesity and serum lipid profile in Ravansar Non-Communicable Disease (RaNCD) cohort study. This study was conducted on 6,455 subjects aged 35–65 years old from baseline data of RaNCD in Iran. The associations between grip strength and adiposity measurements were explored using linear regression with adjustment for age, height, smoking status, alcohol intake, social class, and prevalent disease. The mean of body mass index (BMI) and muscle strength was 27.2 ± 4.6 kg/m2 and 33.3 ± 11.5, respectively. Muscular strength increased with increasing BMI and waist circumference (WC) in both sexes. Multivariate regression analysis revealed a 3.24 (95% confidence interval [CI], 2.29, 4.19) kg difference between BMI in top and bottom in men, and 1.71 (95% CI, 0.98, 2.34) kg/m2 in women. After multivariable adjustment, a difference of 2.04 (95% CI, 1.12, 2.97) kg was observed between the top and bottom WC quartiles in men and 1.25 (95% CI, 0.51, 1.98) kg in women. In men, with increase of low-density lipoprotein and cholesterol, the mean muscle strength was significantly increased. Muscle strength may be associated with body composition and lipid profiles. Muscle strength can be an appropriate indicator for predicting some of the problems caused by body composition disorders, which requires further longitudinal studies.

Utilization of Supplemental Regional Anesthesia in Lobectomy for Lung Cancer in the United States: A Retrospective Study

        Yahya Alwatari,Vignesh Vudatha,Daniel Scheese,Salem Rustom,Dawit Ayalew,Athanasios E. Sevdalis,Walker Julliard,Rachit D. Shah 대한심장혈관흉부외과학회 2022 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.55 No.3

Background: Pulmonary lobectomy is the standard of care for the treatment of early- stage non-small cell lung cancer. This study investigated the rate of utilization of supplemental anesthesia in patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) or open lobectomy using a national database and assessed the effect of regional block (RB) on postoperative outcomes. Methods: Patients who underwent lobectomy for lung cancer between 2014–2019 were identified in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program. The patients’ primary mode of anesthesia and supplemental anesthesia were recorded. Preoperative characteristics and postoperative outcomes were compared between 2 surgical groups: those who underwent general anesthesia (GA) alone versus GA with RB. Multivariable regression analyses were performed on the outcomes of interest. Results: In total, 13,578 patients met the study criteria, with 87% undergoing GA and the remaining 13% receiving GA and RB. The use of neuraxial anesthesia decreased over the years, while RB use increased up to 20% in 2019. Age, body mass index, and preoperative comorbidities were comparable between groups. Patients who underwent VATS were more likely to receive RB than those who underwent thoracotomy. RB was most often utilized by thoracic surgeons. An adjusted analysis showed that RB use was associated with shorter hospital stays and a reduced likelihood of prolonged length of stay, but a higher rate of surgical site infections (SSIs). Conclusion: In a large surgical database, there was underutilization of supplemental anesthesia in patients undergoing lobectomy for lung cancer. RB utilization was associated with a shorter length of hospital stay and an increase in SSI incidence.
