Lignin/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) composite precursors and PAN precursors were prepared by wet spinning and thenconverted into carbon fibers together under different carbonization temperatures. The microscopic morphology, mechanicalproperties and microstructure of the carbon fibers were studied. All the carbon fibers had dense structure without any visiblemacrovoids. Carbon fibers with tensile strength of 2.1 GPa and tensile modulus of 224 GPa were obtained from the lignin/PAN composite precursor by carbonizing at 1200 oC. Interestingly, the lignin/PAN-based carbon fibers had a unique uniformdisordered carbon structure. They were expected to be applied in the fields of electrothermal conversion and thermalinsulation, besides composites.
Autophagy Involvement in Olanzapine-Mediated Cytotoxic Effects in Human Glioma Cells
Wang, Yi-Xuan,Xu, Shu-Qing,Chen, Xiang-Hui,Liu, Rui-Si,Liang, Zhong-Qin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of olanzapine on growth inhibition as well as autophagy in glioma cells in vitro and in vivo. The proliferation of both LN229 and T98 glioma cells, measured by MTT assay, was suppressed in a concentration-dependent and time-dependent manner. Moreover, apoptosis of both cells was significantly increased with the treatment of olanzapine as evidenced by increased Bcl-2 expression, Hoechst 33258 staining and annexinV-FITC/PI staining. Olanzapine treatment also enhanced activation of autophagy with increased expression of LC3-II, expression of protein p62, a substrate of autophagy, being decreased. The growth inhibition by olanzapine in both glioma cell lines could be blocked by co-treatment with 3-MA, an autophagy inhibitor. Furthermore, olanzapine effectively blocked the growth of subcutaneous xenografts of LN229 glioma cells in vivo. The increased level of protein LC3-II and decreased level of p62 followed by a decreased level of Bcl-2, suggesting that autophagy may contribute to apoptosis. In addition, reduced proliferation of glioma cells was shown by a decrease of Ki-67 staining and increased caspase-3 staining indicative of apoptosis in mouse xenografts. These results indicated that olanzapine inhibited the growth of glioma cells accompanied by induction of autophagy and apoptosis both in vitro and in vivo. Olanzapine-induced autophagy plays a tumor-suppressing role in glioma cells.
Two new ursane-type triterpenoid saponins from Elsholtzia bodinieri
Jin-Dong Zhong,Xue-Wei Zhao,Xuan-Qin Chen,Hong-Mei Li,Chin-Ho Chen,Xue-Shan Xia,Rong-Tao Li 대한약학회 2016 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.39 No.6
Two new ursane-type triterpenoid saponins, bodiniosides M (1) and N (2), along with three knownsaponins, oblonganosides I (3), pseudobuxussaponin B (4)and bodinioside A (5), were isolated from the aerial partsof Elsholtzia bodinieri. The structures of compounds 1 and2 were characterized by spectroscopic data as well as acidhydrolysis and GC analysis as 3-O-b-D-xylopyranosyl-19ahydroxy-23-acetoxy-urs-12(13)-en-28-oic acid 28-O-a-Lrhamnopyranosyl-(1-2)-b-D-glucopyranoside and 3-O-b-Dglucopyranosyl-2a,19a-dihydroxy-urs-12(13)-en-28,20blactone. Compounds 1 and 5 exhibited potent anti-HCVactivities in vitro with a selective index of 6.53 and 4.41,respectively.

Background: Myocarditis is a myocardial injury that can easily cause adolescent death. Traditional research models of animal invasion with viral components, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or porcine myocardial myosin, among others, have the shortcomings of potential biological safety hazards and high animal mortality. Objective: To explore the construction of a novel myocarditis model with cyclosporine A and the potential genes and pathways associated with it. Methods: BALB/c mice were used in this study, and cyclosporin A and LPS were injected into the peritoneal cavity of mice. The successful establishment of the model was assessed by detecting serum myocardial injury markers and inflammatory factors levels, HE, IHC staining, and RT-qPCR methods. Key genes were obtained using the GSE35182 dataset from the GEO database and validated with the RT-qPCR method. Results: We found that a large number of inflammatory cells infiltrated the myocardium of mice in each group of Cyclosporin A constructed model, while the expression of inflammatory factor indicators was increased, and this model has the characteristics of high degree of local inflammation in myocardial tissue, low mortality, and safe and non-toxic treatment. Using GSE35182 data, we selected 18 Hub genes and validated Hub genes in myocardial tissue with RT-qPCR and found that multiple signaling pathways such as Toll-likereceptor signaling pathway(TLRs), Rap1 signal pathway(Rap1), and Chemokine signaling pathway may be involved in the development of myocarditis. Conclusion: Cyclosporin A can construct a new myocarditis model, and TLRs, Chemokines and Rap1 signaling pathways may be the core pathways of myocarditis.

Ectropis grisescens Warren (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) is an important defoliator pest of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis L. Our previous studies showed that E. grisescens pupae had significantly lower body water content when they pupated in the dry soil (20%-moisture) than those that pupated in the wetter soil (50%- or 80%-moisture). However, it is still unclear whether low-moisture conditions during pupating would further influence the physiological and fitness traits of adults. In the present study, E. grisescens individuals were allowed to pupate in 20%-, 50%- or 80%-moisture soil (silt loam), or in containers without soil (no-substrate conditions) in the laboratory. No significant difference in emergence was detected among different pupating conditions. However, female moths that emerged from 20%-moisture soil had significantly lower body water content compared to 80%-moisture soil, whereas the body water content of males was similar among the four treatments. The paired moths that emerged from 20%-moisture soil laid significantly fewer eggs than those that emerged from 50%- moisture soil. In addition, the number of hatched offerings (larvae) were significantly less when the adults previously pupated in no-soil containers compared to 50%-moisture soil. The longevity of adults was shortest when they emerged from 20%-moisture soil. Our study showed that the no-substrate and low-moisture conditions during pupating adversely affected E. grisescens adults.
