An integrated space–time framework for linkage discovery of big survey data

        Xinyue Ye,Xiang Lian,Hongwei Xu,Jiaxin Du,Shuming Bao 대한공간정보학회 2024 Spatial Information Research Vol.32 No.2

In the realm of survey research, establishing connections within large datasets remains a challenge. This study aims to unveil underlying connections within extensive survey data, emphasizing the need for a more integrated approach to decipher intricate relationships among survey elements. Utilizing computational semantics, machine learning, and advanced spatiotemporal models, we developed an all-encompassing database. This novel database is adept at extracting and characterizing features from a multitude of survey studies, spotlighting relationships among metadata elements such as terms, variables, and topics. The derived relationships are systematically stored as connectivity matrices. These matrices not only quantify the degree of interconnectedness among features but also provide insights into their complex interplay. As a result, our system functions akin to a digital geographical data librarian. Beyond merely serving as a storage tool, this system facilitates interdisciplinary research. It equips researchers with the capability to discern connections between survey elements, enabling them to identify the most infuential paths among features based on diverse criteria. Such a tool fosters cross-disciplinary integration and unveils potential ties between seemingly unrelated survey attributes, paving the way for breakthroughs in understanding and application.

Generation of U and P Singularities in Partially Coherent Beams Using Intensity Control Holographic Modal Wavefront Sensor

        Xinyu Peng,Dong Ye,Guo Zheng Zhao,Qi Zhao,Minmin Song 한국광학회 2017 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.1 No.2

It is shown that polarization singularities of a new type, namely U and P singularities, arise at thetransverse cross section of a partially coherent beam, instead of the common singularities such as C pointsand L lines in a completely coherent vector field. A relationship between the two kind of singularitieswith respect to intensity is proposed. We also present a setup that can generate the new singularities, andany desired distribution of degree of polarization, using intensity control.

Microwave-assisted modification of activated carbon with ammonia for efficient pyrene adsorption

        Xinyu Ge,Zhansheng Wu,Zhilin Wu,Yujun Yan,Giancarlo Cravotto,Bang-Ce Ye 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.39 No.-

With the aim to enhance the adsorption properties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) fromaqueous solutions, coal-based activated carbon (CAC) was modified with three different protocols: (i)ammonia treatment (A-CAC), (ii) microwave radiation (M-CAC) (iii) and combined microwave radiationin the presence of ammonia (MA-CAC). The original CAC and all the modified samples were characterizedby SEM, nitrogen adsorption–desorption, Boehm method, point of zero charge, FTIR and XPS. The surfacearea increased from 764.96 to 1293.78 m2/g for CAC and MA-CAC, whereas the total oxygen-containinggroups decreased from 1.57 to 0.25 mmol/g. The pyrene adsorption capacity of all the modified sampleswas higher than CAC and the adsorption process for pyrene to the equilibrium needed only 40 min. Adsorption of pyrene on CAC and MA-CAC varies from the monolayer to multilayer process. The filmdiffusion could control the adsorption rate of pyrene onto carbons. The adsorption capacity of the CACand modified samples had a good positive correlation with surface area, carboxyl groups, and lactonesgroups. The modified samples, especially MA-CAC, showed an enhanced adsorption of pyrene openingthe way to a more general application as efficient adsorbent for PAHs contaminant.

Metaheuristic-hybridized multilayer perceptron in slope stability analysis

Xinyu Ye,Hossein Moayedi,Mahdy Khari,Loke Kok Foong 국제구조공학회 2020 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.26 No.3

This research is dedicated to slope stability analysis using novel intelligent models. By coupling a neural network with spotted hyena optimizer (SHO), salp swarm algorithm (SSA), shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA), and league champion optimization algorithm (LCA) metaheuristic algorithms, four predictive ensembles are built for predicting the factor of safety (FOS) of a single-layer cohesive soil slope. The data used to develop the ensembles are provided from a vast finite element analysis. After creating the proposed models, it was observed that the best population size for the SHO, SSA, SFLA, and LCA is 300, 400, 400, and 200, respectively. Evaluation of the results showed that the combination of metaheuristic and neural approaches offers capable tools for estimating the FOS. However, the SSA (error = 0.3532 and correlation = 0.9937), emerged as the most reliable optimizer, followed by LCA (error = 0.5430 and correlation = 0.9843), SFLA (error = 0.8176 and correlation = 0.9645), and SHO (error = 2.0887 and correlation = 0.8614). Due to the high accuracy of the SSA in properly adjusting the computational parameters of the neural network, the corresponding FOS predictive formula is presented to be used as a fast yet accurate substitution for traditional methods.

Identification and Characterization of the Replication Region of Virulence Plasmid pEIB202 in Edwardsiella piscicida

( Xinyue Chang ),( Chengli Teng ),( Haizhen Wu ),( Jiang Ye ),( Qiyao Wang ),( Huizhan Zhang ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2019 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.29 No.8

Edwardsiella piscicida is the causative agent of edwardsiellosis, which has caused enormous economic losses worldwide. In our previous research, an attenuated live vaccine known as WED and based on the virulent strain E. piscicida EIB202 can effectively protect turbots against edwardsiellosis via intraperitoneal injection, while vaccination by immersion exhibits a weaker effect. During the development of the immersion vaccine, we surprisingly found the counts of ΔpEIB202/ EIB202 colonized on zebrafish were 100 times lower than those of EIB202. However, pEIB202 carries 53 predicted ORFs and has several copies in E. piscicida EIB202, impeding the study of its function. Thus, the replication region is located at a 1,980 bp fragment (from 18,837 to 20,816 bp), containing a transcriptional repressor and a replication protein. Moreover, the minimal replication plasmid, named pRep-q77, has low copies in both E. coli and E. piscicida, but is more stable in E. piscicida than in E. coli. This work lays a foundation for further examination of the function of the virulence plasmid pEIB202.

Hybridized dragonfly, whale and ant lion algorithms in enlarged pile’s behavior

Xinyu Ye,Zongjie Lyu,Loke Kok Foong 국제구조공학회 2020 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.25 No.6

The present study intends to find a proper solution for the estimation of the physical behaviors of enlarged piles through a combination of small-scale laboratory tests and a hybrid computational predictive intelligence process. In the first step, experimental program is completed considering various critical influential factors. The results of the best multilayer perceptron (MLP)-based predictive network was implemented through three mathematical-based solutions of dragonfly algorithm (DA), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), and ant lion optimization (ALO). Three proposed models, after convergence analysis, suggested excellent performance. These analyses varied based on neurons number (e.g., in the basis MLP hidden layer) and of course, the level of its complexity. The training R2 results of the best hybrid structure of DA-MLP, WOA-MLP, and ALO-MLP were 0.996, 0.996, and 0.998 where the testing R2 was 0.995, 0.985, and 0.998, respectively. Similarly, the training RMSE of 0.046, 0.051, and 0.034 were obtained for the training and testing datasets of DA-MLP, WOA-MLP, and ALO-MLP techniques, while the testing RMSE of 0.088, 0.053, and 0.053, respectively. This obtained result demonstrates the excellent prediction from the optimized structure of the proposed models if only population sensitivity analysis performs. Indeed, the ALO-MLP was slightly better than WOA-MLP and DA-MLP methods.

      • An analytical model of the additional confining stress in a prestress-reinforced embankment

        Xinyu Ye,Fangxu Li,Wuming Leng,Xi Ai,Hossein Moayedi,Qishu Zhang 국제구조공학회 2023 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.31 No.5

Using a device composed of two lateral pressure plates (LPPs) and a steel reinforcement bar to apply horizontal pressure on slope surfaces, a newly developed prestress-reinforced embankment (PRE) is proposed, to which can be adopted in strengthening railway subgrades. In this study, an analytical model, which is available of calculating additional confining stress (<i>σ</i>H) at any point in a PRE, was established based on the theory of elasticity. In addition, to verify the proposed analytical model, three dimensional (3D) finite element analyses were conducted and the feasibility in application was also identified and discussed. In order to study the performance of the PRE, the propagation of <i>σ</i>H in a PRE was analyzed and discussed based on the analytical model. For the aim of convenience in application, calculation charts were developed in terms of three dimensionless parameters, and they can be used to accurately and efficiently predict the <i>σ</i>H in a PRE regardless of the embankment slope ratio and LPP side length ratio. Finally, the potential applications of the proposed analytical model were discussed.

Numerical Simulation of Hybrid Polarization Singularity Configurations

        Dong Ye,Muchun Zhou,Xinyu Peng,Minmin Song 한국광학회 2017 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.1 No.4

In this article, we proposed hybrid polarization singularity configurations, based on the superpositionof two orthogonal circularly polarized components, one of which is a light beam with two optical vortices. The topological configurations are the hybridization of lowest-order polarization singularities, but aredifferent from high-order polarization singularities. Our numerical simulation may provide a theoreticalbasis for expanding the variety of polarization singularity configuration.

Preceding treatment of non-thermal plasma (NTP) assisted the bactericidal effect of ultrasound on <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i>

        Liao, Xinyu,Li, Jiao,Muhammad, Aliyu Idris,Suo, Yuanjie,Ahn, Juhee,Liu, Donghong,Chen, Shiguo,Hu, Yaqin,Ye, Xingqian,Ding, Tian Elsevier 2018 FOOD CONTROL Vol.90 No.-

<P>Ultrasound is a promising non-thermal inactivation technique. However, ultrasound treatment alone is not very effective. In this study, combined applications of ultrasound and non-thermal plasma (NTP) were assessed for their inactivation efficacy and the physiological change on Staphylococcus aureus cells. The lethal and sublethal injury induced by individual ultrasound, NTP, ultrasound-NTP (UP) and NTP-ultrasound treatments was determined by plate count method. Then, we applied fluorescent technology to demonstrate the physiological variations of S. aureus during various treatments. NTP exposure followed by ultrasound treatment exhibited the highest inactivation rate of S. aureus, Prior NTP helped to provide enough reactive oxygen species (ROS) dissolved in the medium, and the subsequent ultrasound assisted in the injection of ROS into S. aureus cells. This accelerated the reaction between ROS and intracellular biomolecules, which led to the rapid death of the microbes. On the contrary, S. aureus cells treated with ultrasound first were more likely to develop and enhance oxidative response, allowing S. aureus to resist toward the following NTP stressor. Therefore, the findings of this study may be used to the optimization of hurdle technologies of ultrasound and NTP in practice. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.</P>
