      • 8q24 rs4242382 Polymorphism is a Risk Factor for Prostate Cancer among Multi-Ethnic Populations: Evidence from Clinical Detection in China and a Meta-analysis

        Zhao, Cheng-Xiao,Liu, Ming,Xu, Yong,Yang, Kuo,Wei, Dong,Shi, Xiao-Hong,Yang, Fan,Zhang, Yao-Guang,Wang, Xin,Liang, Si-Ying,Zhao, Fan,Zhang, Yu-Rong,Wang, Na-Na,Chen, Xin,Sun, Liang,Zhu, Xiao-Quan,Yuan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19

Background: Evidence supporting an association between the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and prostate cancer (PCa) risk has been reported in North American and Europe populations, though data from Asian populations remain limited. We therefore investigated this association by clinical detection in China, and meta-analysis in Asian, Caucasian and African-American populations. Materials and Methods: Blood samples and clinical information were collected from ethnically Chinese men from Northern China with histologically-confirmed PCa (n=335) and from age-matched normal controls (n=347). The 8q24 (rs4242382) gene polymorphism was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-high-resolution melting analysis. We initially analyzed the associations between the risk allele and PCa and clinical covariates. A meta-analysis was then performed using genotyping data from a total of 1,793 PCa cases and 1,864 controls from our study and previously published studies in American and European populations, to determine the association between PCa and risk genotype. Results: The incidence of the risk allele was higher in PCa cases than controls (0.222 vs 0.140, $P=7.3{\times}10^{-5}$), suggesting that the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism was associated with PCa risk in Chinese men. The genotypes in subjects were in accordance with a dominant genetic model (ORadj=2.03, 95%CI: 1.42-2.91, $Padj=1.1{\times}10^{-4}$). Presence of the risk allele rs4242382-A at 8q24 was also associated with clinical covariates including age at diagnosis ${\geq}65$ years, prostate specific antigen >10 ng/ml, Gleason score <8, tumor stage and aggressive PCa, compared with the non-risk genotype ($P=4.6{\times}10^{-5}-3.0{\times}10^{-2}$). Meta-analysis confirmed the association between 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and PCa risk (OR=1.62, 95%CI: 1.39-1.88, $P=1.0{\times}10^{-5}$) across Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. Conclusions: The replicated data suggest that the 8q24 rs4242382-A variation might be associated with increased PCa susceptibility in Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. These results imply that this polymorphism may be a useful risk biomarker for PCa in multi-ethnic populations.

Advanced aerostatic stability analysis of suspension bridges

Xiao, Ru-Cheng,Cheng, Jin Techno-Press 2004 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.7 No.1

Aerostatic instability of a suspension bridge may suddenly appears when the deformed shape of the structure produces an increase in the value of the three components of displacement-dependent wind loads distributed in the structure. This paper investigates the aerostatic stability of suspension bridges using an advanced nonlinear method based on the concept of limit point instability. Particular attention is devoted to aerostatic stability analysis of symmetrical suspension bridges. A long-span symmetrical suspension bridge (Hu Men Bridge) with a main span of 888 m is chosen for analysis. It is found that the initial configuration (symmetry or asymmetry) may affect the instability configuration of structure. A finite element software for the nonlinear aerostatic stability analysis of cable-supported bridges (NASAB) is presented and discussed. The aerostatic failure mechanism of suspension bridges is also explained by tracing aerostatic instability path.

Differential effects on the MICE sustainability and customer loyalty perceived by domestic and international attendees

Cheng, Xiao Xi(정효희),Kim, Chul Won(김철원) 한국전시산업융합연구원 2017 한국과학예술융합학회 Vol.30 No.-

The objective of this study is to explore differential effects of the sustainability perceived by domestic and international participants in the MICE (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Convention, and Exhibition) held in the Republic of Korea and to examine the relationship between customer loyalty and perception of the sustainable MICE. In this study, 30 sustainability variables for the MICE were extracted and tested by the factor analysis, representing four underlying dimensions: economic sustainability, social sustainability, environmental sustainability and event sustainability. The results revealed that significant differences in these four dimensions of the sustainable MICE were perceived by domestic and international participants. The largest difference were perceived by domestic and international participants with respect to the environmental sustainability factor. The mean scores indicated that international participants tended to give higher evaluations than domestic participants. Second, there were statistically significant relationships among economic, environmental, and event sustainability factors and customer loyalty from the perspective of international participants. For domestic participants, only event sustainability had a vital relationship with customer loyalty. The study implied how policy makers and the MICE managers should adopt four dimensions of sustainability to establish a harmonious and sustainable MICE practices.

      • Experimental investigation on the behaviour of UHPC-steel composite slabs under hogging moment

        Xiao-Long Gao,Jun-Yan Wang,Chen Bian,Ru-Cheng Xiao,Biao Ma 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.42 No.6

Ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) can be used in the UHPC-steel composite structures especially for bridge structures to achieve high stiffness and high fatigue resistance with low self-weight. The structural performances of UHPC-steel composite slabs subjected to hogging moment have a significant influence on the global stiffness and durability of UHPC-steel composite structures. In order to study the structural behaviors of non-steam-cured UHPC-steel composite slabs subjected to negative moment, five composite slabs combined the thin UHPC layers to steel plates via shear stud connecters with the diameter of 16mm were fabricated and tested under negative moment. The test program aimed to investigate the effect of stud spacing and longitudinal reinforcement ratios on the failure mode, load-deflection behaviors, cracking patterns, bond-slips, and carrying capacities of composite slabs subjected to negative moment. In addition, direct tensile tests for the dog-bone UHPC specimens with longitudinal reinforcement bars were carried out to study the effect of reinforcement bars on the tensile strength of UHPC in the thin structure members. Based on the experimental results, analytical models were also developed to predict the cracking load and ultimate load of UHPC-steel composite slabs subjected to negative moment.

      • A Collaborative Filtering Recommendation Algorithm Fusing Rating and Time Interval Similarity on Item Attributes

Xiao-hui Cheng,Yu Wu,Yun Deng 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Grid and Distributed Comp Vol.9 No.12

Traditional methods UBCF have limitations of poor recommendation quality and problems of data sparsity. To alleviate these problems, a novel collaborative filtering algorithm is designed, which firstly get the users’ ratings and time intervals for each attribute from the users’ ratings for items, then produce two methods to calculate the similarity between users, introduce a weighting parameters to control the weight between the two similarity methods in order to get a fusion similarity between two users. The results show that this method is able to improve the accuracy of predicted values, resulting in improving recommendation quality of the collaborative filtering recommendation algorithm.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Diagnosis of Locally Recurrent Prostate Cancer: Are All Pulse Sequences Helpful?

        Xiao-Li Liao,Jun-Bao Wei,Yong-Qiang Li,Jian-Hong Zhong,Cheng-Cheng Liao,Chang-Yuan Wei 대한영상의학회 2018 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.19 No.6

Objective: To perform a meta-analysis to quantitatively assess functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of locally recurrent prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: A comprehensive search of the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews was conducted from January 1, 1995 to December 31, 2016. Diagnostic accuracy was quantitatively pooled for all studies by using hierarchical logistic regression modeling, including bivariate modeling and hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic (HSROC) curves (AUCs). The Z test was used to determine whether adding functional MRI to T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) results in significantly increased diagnostic sensitivity and specificity. Results: Meta-analysis of 13 studies involving 826 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy showed a pooled sensitivity and specificity of 91%, and the AUC was 0.96. Meta-analysis of 7 studies involving 329 patients who underwent radiotherapy showed a pooled sensitivity of 80% and specificity of 81%, and the AUC was 0.88. Meta-analysis of 11 studies reporting 1669 sextant biopsies from patients who underwent radiotherapy showed a pooled sensitivity of 54% and specificity of 91%, and the AUC was 0.85. Sensitivity after radiotherapy was significantly higher when diffusion-weighted MRI data were combined with T2WI than when only T2WI results were used. This was true when meta-analysis was performed on a per-patient basis (p = 0.027) or per sextant biopsy (p = 0.046). A similar result was found when 1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) data were combined with T2WI and sextant biopsy was the unit of analysis (p = 0.036). Conclusion: Functional MRI data may not strengthen the ability of T2WI to detect locally recurrent prostate cancer in patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy. By contrast, diffusion-weight MRI and 1H-MRS data may improve the sensitivity of T2WI for patients who have undergone radiotherapy.

The influence of Li2O incorporation on the electrochemical properties of Li4Ti5O12 thin film electrodes

        Xiao, Cheng-Fan,Kim, Jong Heon,Choi, Daehwan,Park, Yun Chang,Kim, Jung Hyun,Park, Jozeph,Kim, Yong Joo,Kim, Hyun-Suk ELSEVIER SCIENCE 2019 JOURNAL OF ALLOYS AND COMPOUNDS Vol.801 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>High quality Li4Ti5O12 anode films were deposited by radio-frequency co-sputtering Li4Ti5O12 and Li2O targets on Pt-coated stainless steel substrates. The use of an additional Li2O target not only compensated the lithium content in the resulting layers but also decreased the impurity content. Consequently, the electrochemical properties of the Li4Ti5O12 anode exhibited better electrochemical properties than an identical film prepared using a single Li4Ti5O12 target. Upon annealing, the co-sputtering Li4Ti5O12 showed a relatively high discharge capacity of 618 mAh/cm3 (theoretical specific capacity of 598.5 mAh/cm3) at a current density of 0.1 C. Also, superior high rate capability with a discharge capacity of 309 mAh/cm3 at 20 C was observed, accompanied by an excellent cycling stability, with a capacity retention ratio exceeding 94% after 500 cycles at 1 C. Probabilistic determination of initial cable forces of cable-stayed bridges under dead loads

        Cheng, Jin,Xiao, Ru-Cheng,Jiang, Jian-Jing Techno-Press 2004 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.17 No.2

This paper presents an improved Monte Carlo simulation for the probabilistic determination of initial cable forces of cable-stayed bridges under dead loads using the response surfaces method. A response surface (i.e. a quadratic response surface without cross-terms) is used to approximate structural response. The use of the response surface eliminates the need to perform a deterministic analysis in each simulation loop. In addition, use of the response surface requires fewer simulation loops than conventional Monte Carlo simulation. Thereby, the computation time is saved significantly. The statistics (e.g. mean value, standard deviation) of the structural response are calculated through conventional Monte Carlo simulation method. By using Monte Carlo simulation, it is possible to use the existing deterministic finite element code without modifying it. Probabilistic analysis of a truss demonstrates the proposed method' efficiency and accuracy; probabilistic determination of initial cable forces of a cable-stayed bridge under dead loads verifies the method's applicability.
