Training-free neural architecture search: A review

        Wu Meng-Ting,Tsai Chun-Wei 한국통신학회 2024 ICT Express Vol.10 No.1

The goal of neural architecture search (NAS) is to either downsize the neural architecture and model of a deep neural network (DNN), adjust a neural architecture to improve its end result, or even speed up the whole training process. Such improvements make it possible to generate or install the model of a DNN on a small device, such as a device of internet of things or wireless sensor network. Because most NAS algorithms are time-consuming, finding out a way to reduce their computation costs has now become a critical research issue. The training-free method (also called the zero-shot learning) provides an alternative way to estimate how good a neural architecture is more efficiently during the process of NAS by using a lightweight score function instead of a general training process to avoid incurring heavy costs. This paper starts with a brief discussion of DNN and NAS, followed by a brief review of both model-dependent and model-independent training-free score functions. A brief introduction to the search algorithms and benchmarks that were widely used in a training-free NAS will also be given in this paper. The changes, potential, open issues, and future trends of this research topic are then addressed in the end of this paper.

      • Mitigating SYN flooding Attack and ARP Spoofing in SDN Data Plane

        Ting-Yu Lin,Jhen-Ping Wu,Pei-Hsuan Hung,Ching-Hsuan Shao,Yu-Ting Wang,Yun-Zhan Cai,Meng-Hsun Tsai 한국통신학회 2020 한국통신학회 APNOMS Vol.2020 No.09

As the number of network devices increases rapidly, it becomes more and more difficult to defend network attacks. Large-scaled attacks, such as SYN flooding, may lead to heavy burden to the switches as well as the controller in a software defined network (SDN). In this paper, we investigate the SYN flooding and Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) spoofing attacks in SDN, and then propose mechanisms to address these two attacks. We also present a new scheme to detect SYN flooding by using only a few forwarding rules. Moreover, we utilize the Programming Protocol-independent Packet Processors (P4) technique to mitigate the burden of the controller.

Phenotype-considered kinematically aligned total knee arthroplasty for windswept-deformity-associated osteoarthritis: surgical strategy and clinical outcomes

        ( Cheng-en Hsu ),( Meng-hsueh Tsai ),( Hsin-ting Wu ),( Jen-ting Huang ),( Kui-chou Huang ) 대한슬관절학회 2024 대한슬관절학회지 Vol.36 No.-

Background Windswept deformity (WSD) in relation to advanced osteoarthritis (OA) presents a significant surgical challenge in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The primary goal of this study is to investigate the Prevalance of WSD associated osteoarthritis who have undergone total knee arthroplasty. The secondary goal is to explore the causes of WSD and its association with spinal deformity or leg length discrepancy in these patients. Finally, we evaluate the surgical outcomes of phenotype-considered kinematically aligned TKA (KA-TKA) in treating patients with WSD. Methods A review was conducted on data from 40 knees of 33 WSD patients who underwent phenotype-considered KA-TKA from August 2016 to December 2020. Patient demographics, associated diseases, preoperative and postoperative knee alignment angles, range of motion (ROM), Oxford Knee Score (OKS), and Knee Society Score (KSS) were collected and analyzed. Subgroup analysis for comparing the results between valgus and varus knees were also performed. Results Within the studied cohort of WSD patients, a substantial 64% displayed concomitant coronal spinal imbalance and 21% evidenced leg length discrepancy. Postoperative improvements were notable in knee alignments, ROM, OKS, and KSS following the application of the phenotype-considered KA-TKA approach. There were significant differences in the knee alignment angles, including mHKA, LDFA, and MPTA, between the valgus and varus side of knees (P = 0.018). However, no statistically significant difference were observed in the functional scores, comprising ROM, OKS, and KSS, between valgus and varus knees. Conclusions A high percentage of patients with WSD exhibited coronal spinal imbalance and leg length discrepancy. Phenotype-considered KA-TKA effectively provided alignment targets for the treatment of both varus and valgus knees in patients with WSD, achieving excellent short-term outcomes and acceptable knee alignment.

Conceptual design for a multi-rotor UAV based on variable paddle pitch

        Zhen Qin,Xiaoran Tang,Ziqi Meng,Yu-Ting Wu,류성기,Yue Wang 대한기계학회 2023 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.37 No.10

The field of unmanned aerial vehicles has experienced a "golden era" of progress in recent years (UAV). UAVs come in a vast variety, from the commercial to the military sectors. The UAVs available today are tiny, mini multirotor devices. The advantages of the small multi-rotor structure are its small size, straightforward design, high hovering effectiveness, adaptability in changing directions, and quick flight speed. For activities like tracking and aerial photography, it is especially useful. However, the majority of multi-rotor UAVs, according to current UAV offers, are built around cameras and sensors. As a result, they can't complete other kinds of missions due to their large overall size, light weight, and small cargoes. The outbreak has sparked interest in and study into whether contactless distribution and logistics are practical. Unmanned mechanical devices for various rescue and specialized duties are also being researched by organizations. Therefore, a medium to big multi-rotor UAV needs to be researched and developed. The assembly of paddle holders and auto-tilters for medium- to large-sized multi-rotor UAVs is examined in this work. The multi-rotor UAV is intended to mount an auto-tilter. Its component strength checks are analyzed. Additionally, the blade requirements are chosen, along with strength tests of the individual components, and the structural design of the UAV rotor system is provided. The mechanical viability of the UAV is then confirmed using a motion simulation of its mechanical design.

Caspase-3 inhibitor inhibits enterovirus D68 production

        Wenbo Huo,Jinghua Yu,Chunyu Liu,Ting Wu,Yue Wang,Xiangling Meng,Fengmei Song,Shuxia Zhang,Ying Su,Yumeng Liu,Jinming Liu,Xiaoyan Yu,Shucheng Hua 한국미생물학회 2020 The journal of microbiology Vol.58 No.9

Enterovirus D68 (EVD68) is an emerging pathogen that recently caused a large worldwide outbreak of severe respiratory disease in children. However, the relationship between EVD68 and host cells remains unclear. Caspases are involved in cell death, immune response, and even viral production. We found that caspase-3 was activated during EVD68 replication to induce apoptosis. Caspase-3 inhibitor (Z-DEVDFMK) inhibited viral production, protected host cells from the cytopathic effects of EVD68 infection, and prevented EVD68 from regulating the host cell cycle at G0/G1. Meanwhile, caspase-3 activator (PAC-1) increased EVD68 production. EVD68 infection therefore activates caspase-3 for virus production. This knowledge provides a potential direction for the prevention and treatment of disease related to EVD68.

      • Aspartate Transaminase to Platelet Ratio Index (APRI) and Albumin-Bilirubin Grade (ALBI) Predict Postoperative Morbidity Following Hepatectomy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma A Multicenter Cohort Study

        ( Tian Yang ),( Li-yang Sun ),( Lei Liang ),( Ya-hao Zhou ),( Wei-min Gu ),( Hong Wang ),( Ting-hao Chen ),( Yong-yi Zeng ),( Wan Yee Lau ),( Meng-chao Wu ),( Feng Shen ) 대한간학회 2020 춘·추계 학술대회 (KASL) Vol.2020 No.1

Aims: Postoperative morbidity following hepatectomy remains high, and understanding its risk factors is important to improve perioperative outcomes. We aimed to identify the role of two non-invasive markers - albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) and aspartate transaminase to platelet ratio index (APRI) - in predicting postoperative morbidity following hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: A multicenter data of patients undergoing hepatectomy for HCC at 8 centers were retrospectively analyzed. These patients were divided into normal and high groups according to preoperative ALBI and APRI scores. ALBI and APRI’s predictive accuracy of postoperative 30-day overall and major morbidity were evaluated by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and compared with two conventional scores: Child-Pugh grade and model for end-stage liver disease (MELD). Results: In 2,301 patients, 866 (37.6%) and 400 (17.4%) were in the high ALBI and APRI groups, respectively. There were significant differences of postoperative overall morbidity between the normal and high ALBI groups (26.2% vs. 40.1%, P<0.001), as well as between the normal and high APRI groups (29.2% vs. 42.4%, P<0.001). The AUCs of the ALBI and APRI scores for predicting overall morbidity are greater than those of Child- Pugh grade and MELD score. Multivariable analyses revealed that ALBI and APRI were independent predictors of overall morbidity in both preoperative and postoperative prediction models. Similar results existed in predicting postoperative major morbidity. Conclusions: Preoperative ALBI and APRI could predict postoperative 30-day overall and major morbidity following hepatectomy for HCC before or after surgery.
