<P>In this paper, a novel two-dimensional (2-D) adaptive dimming technique with X-Y channels for light-emitting diode (LED) backlight system in LCD TVs is proposed. The proposed LED backlight has matrix-structured LED modules with row and column switches to control the brightness of individual division block. It shows local dimming effects such as reduced power consumption and high dynamic contrast ratio even with much less number of LED drivers than that of the conventional 2-D local dimming method. Therefore, low cost and compact design of LED drivers can be achieved. This paper also contains a new adaptive dimming algorithm and image manipulation technique for the proposed LED backlight system. The proposed dimming technique is verified by simulation and experimental results based on a RGB-LED backlight of a 32-in LCD TV.</P>
Neo-ostium Formation in Anomalous Origin of the Left Coronary Artery

Anomalous origin of a coronary aortic artery is a rare cardiac anomaly. Although it can cause angina, syncope, and palpitations, most patients are asymptomatic. This anomaly requires surgical treatment or intervention because it is associated with sudden death. Several surgical techniques, such as coronary reimplantation, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), unroofing, and neo-ostium formation, have been proposed as treatments. We report a case surgically treated with neo-ostium formation in anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the right coronary sinus.
Sterols and terpenoids from phytolacca esculenta

Phytolaccagenin, as a minor free terpenoid, was isolated from the roots of phytolacca esculenta van Houtte. A mixture of sterols was also isolated and identified as ${\alpha}$-spinasterol and ${\delta}^7$-stigmastenol, which never seemed to have been found in phytolaccaceae.

Nature of the Hydrogen Chloride Induced Isomers of $\alpha$-Spinasterol

It was established that .alpha.-spinasterol (I) was isomerized by hydrogen chloride to a mixture of two isomers. These isomers were separated into each of components and identified as .DLETA.$^{8(14),22}$ -stigmastadienol (III) and ${\delta}$$^{14,22}$ -stigmastadienol (IV), respectively. The mass spectra of these compounds were found to be particularly suitable to idetify the position of nuclear double bond of sterols possessing 22 : 23 -double bond in side chain.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Piezoelectric energy harvesting generally demonstrates low output power because its output current is low compared to its high output voltage. The low current and high impedance limit the applications of piezoelectric energy harvesting systems. Thus, it is necessary to increase the output current and reduce the internal impedance. This study presents the fabrication of multilayer piezoelectric thick films with high output currents. Single-layer and five-layer piezoelectric devices are prepared using the tape-casting process. The material properties of each lead zirconate titanate (PZT) ceramic are measured using an impedance analyzer and a d<SUB>33</SUB> meter. The electrical properties of the piezoelectric devices were evaluated by a controllable strain module using vibration exciter. The capacitance of the single-layer device was 7.33 nF and that of the five-layer device was 241.04 nF, which was 32.88 times higher than that of the single-layer device. The open circuit voltage of the five-layer device decreased 6.09 times compared to the single-layer, but the short circuit current increased 5.30 times. The impedance matching load of the five layer device for maximum power transfer was averagely 34.05 times smaller than that of single-layer. Under maximum power transfer conditions, the current of the five-layer PZT device was 6.61 times larger than the single-layer, even though the output power of both devices was similar. Because of this capacitance and current increase, the energy stored in the 220 μF capacitor for 10 s using the five-layer device was 920% larger compared to the energy stored using a single-layer.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Low current and high impedance limit piezoelectric-energy-harvester applications. </LI> <LI> Multilayer piezoelectric thick films with high capacitance are fabricated. </LI> <LI> The electrical properties of the piezoelectric devices were evaluated by a controllable strain module. </LI> <LI> Output current is observed to be proportional to the number of layers. </LI> <LI> The energy stored in the capacitors using the five-layer device was 920% larger than that stored using the single-layer. </LI> </UL> </P>

Time, place, and the high-tech industry to overcome barriers to the fusion of the so-called "smart agriculture" is changing the landscape of agriculture. Precision Agriculture's core temperature, humidity, location information, and summary information in real time, all significant ICT controlling technique. The system is a four-season container production for the mushroom cultivation temperature, humidity, illumination, self-regulation, such as carbon dioxide, the optimal environment for mushroom cultivation was implemented. Hericium erinaceum (also called Lion's Mane Mushroom, Bearded Tooth Mushroom, or Bearded Tooth Fungus) is an edible mushroom and medicinal mushroom in the tooth fungus group. Native to North America, Europe and Asia it can be identified by its tendency to grow all the spines out from one group (rather than branches), long spines (greater than 1 cm length) and its appearance on hardwoods. About 40 days of incubation 1.5kg oak sawdust was used as the test medium bag. The humidity was maintained more than 85~95% and temperature was 18~20°C, and CO2 density was 500~1,000ppm. The days for primordium formation showed us 6~12 days. The amount of fruitbody production was 110~260g per bag. This technique to establish new community support program in conjunction with the international movement, domestic sales and exports are also planned.
