      • Homeownership Determinants of Young People in Post-socialist China and the Implications for Social Stratification

        Wen Jing Deng,Joris S. C. M. Hoekstra,Marja G. Elsinga 한국주거학회 2015 한국주거학회 국제학술대회논문집 Vol.2015 No.4

This article aims to study the determinants of young Chinese people’s homeownership. More specifically, it aims to compare the ups and downs of ‘redistributive power’ and ‘market ability’, as well as the influence of ‘ascribed’ and ‘achieved’ social status, in the Chinese social stratification after more than three decades of market transition. Firstly, the paper discusses the issues which link the Chinese housing system and young people. Subsequently, logistic regression analysis was applied to investigate the relationship between explanatory variables and homeownership outcomes among young people. In relation to this, the paper distinguishes between independent homeowners (live independently), dependent homeowners (live with home owning parents), and non-home owners, in order to further explore the impact of home-owning parents. Results show that a redistributive power still persists in the Chinese housing allocation, mainly in the form of territorial affiliation (hukou registration). Ascribed social status, such as original hukou site and social status of parents, is still of influence on homeownership among young people. The paper ends with a discussion of the implications of the research findings for the social stratification.

MiR-214 inhibits apoptosis in thyroid epithelial follicular cells induced by amiodarone through the FASL/MAPK pathway

        Wen Jing,Deng Chaonan,Shi Lixin,Zhou Shi,Zhang Miao,Hu Xiaoli,Wang Nianxue,Luo Lijuan 대한독성 유전단백체 학회 2022 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.18 No.2

Background Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), also known as chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is one of the most common autoimmune disease (AITD) in clinical practice. It is urgent to explore the mechanism of amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction. Objective This study aims to assess the expression levels of miR-214 and FasL in amiodarone contact type of HT, and the effect of miR-214 on cell viability and apoptosis and potential mechanism. Results We found that miR-214 was low expressed in the tissues of amiodarone-treated thyroiditis patients. MiR-214 increased the survival rate of amiodarone-induced thyroid epithelial follicular cells and inhibited apoptosis. Mechanically, we found that miR-214 could bind to FASL and regulate MAPK signaling pathway through FASL. Conclusions Our results suggested that miR-214 could be a potential therapeutic target for Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

      • Improvement of a Fingerprint-Based Remote User Authentication Scheme

Jing Xu,Wen-Tao Zhu,Deng-Guo Feng 보안공학연구지원센터 2008 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.2 No.3

Password authentication has been adopted as one of the most commonly used solutions in network environments to protect resources from unauthorized access. Recently, Khan et al. proposed an efficient fingerprint-based remote user authentication scheme with smart cards [15], in which a password/verification table is not required on the remote server, and users are allowed to choose and update their passwords freely. In this paper, we show that their scheme is vulnerable to the parallel session attack. Furthermore, their scheme is susceptible to the impersonation attack provided that the information stored in the smart card is disclosed by an adversary. We also propose an improved scheme which is immune to the presented attacks.

Lateral-torsional Buckling Analysis of Cantilever Beam with Tip Lateral Elastic Brace under Uniform and Concentrated Load

        Wen-Fu Zhang,Ying-Chun Liu,Gui-Lan Hou,Ke-Shan Chen,Jing Ji,Yun Deng,Shi-Lin Deng 한국강구조학회 2016 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.16 No.4

The studies on the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever steel beam with tip lateral elastic brace are rarely reported. The total potential energy is first established for the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever steel beam with tip lateral elastic brace under uniform and concentrated load. The modal trial function of the lateral displacement and torsional angle are expressed as trigonometric function combination with six terms. By introducing new dimensionless parameters, the analytical solution of the dimensionless buckling equation for the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever steel beam with tip lateral elastic brace is obtained. With the help of 1stOpt software which is mathematical optimization analysis software, the non-dimensional critical moment formula of the lateral-torsional buckling of cantilever beam with tip lateral elastic brace is obtained. Then, the accuracy of the formula is verified by ADINA finite element software. The results show that the given critical moment formula is of high accuracy. It provides convenient and simple design method for practical engineering.

      • Combined Effects Methylation of FHIT, RASSF1A and RARβ Genes on Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in the Chinese Population

Li, Wen,Deng, Jing,Tang, Jian-Xin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.13

Epigenetic modifications of tumour suppressor genes are involved in all kinds of human cancer. Aberrant promoter methylation is also considered to play an essential role in development of lung cancer, but the pathogenesis remains unclear. We collected the data of 112 subjects, including 56 diagnosed patients with lung cancer and 56 controls without cancer. Methylation of the FHIT, RASSF1A and RAR-${\beta}$ genes in DNA from all samples and the corresponding gene methylation status were assessed using the methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR, MSP). The results showed that the total frequency of separate gene methylation was significantly higher in lung cancer compared with controls (33.9-85.7 vs 0 %) (p<0.01).Similar outcomes were obtained from the aberrant methylation of combinations of any two or three genes (p<0.01). There was a tendency that the frequency of combinations of any two or three genes was higher in stage I+II than that in stage III+IV with lung cancer. However, no significant difference was found across various clinical stages and clinic pathological gradings of lung cancer (p>0.05).These observations suggest that there is a significant association of promoter methylation of individual genes with lung cancer risk, and that aberrant methylation of combination of any two or three genes may be associated with clinical stage in lung cancer patients and involved in the initiation of lung cancer tumorigenesis. Methylation of FHIT, RASSF1A and $RAR{\beta}$ genes may be related to progression of lung oncogenesis.

      • Association of Methylation of the RAR-β Gene with Cigarette Smoking in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with Southern-central Chinese Population

        Li, Wen,Deng, Jing,Wang, Shuang-Shuang,Ma, Liang,Pei, Jiang,Zeng, Xiao-Xi,Tang, Jian-Xin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.24

Pathogenesis of lung cancer is a complicated biological process including multiple genetic and epigenetic changes. Since cigarette smoking is confirmed as the most main risk factor of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the aim of this study was to determine whether tobacco exposure plays a role in gene methylation. Methylation of the RAR-${\beta}$ gene were detected using methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction in DNA from 167 newly diagnosed cases with NSCLC and corresponding 105 controls. A significant statistical association was found in the detection rate of the promoter methylation of RAR-${\beta}$ gene between NSCLC and controls ($x^2$=166.01; p<0.01), and hypermethylation of the RAR-${\beta}$ gene was significantly associated with smoking status (p=0.038, p<0.05). No relationship was found between RAR-${\beta}$ gene methylation and pathologic staging including clinical stage, cell type, gender and drinking (p>0.05), and the methylation of RAR-${\beta}$ gene rate of NSCLC was slightly higher in stages III+IV (80.0%) than in I+II (70.8%). Similar results were obtained for methylation of the RAR-${\beta}$ gene between squamous cell carcinoma (77.9%) and other cell type lung cancer (73.9%). These results showed that the frequency of methylation increased gradually with the development of clinical stage in smoking-associated lung cancer patients, and tobacco smoke may be play a potential role in RAR-${\beta}$ gene methylation in the early pathogenesis and process in lung cancer, particularly squamous cell carcinoma. Aberrant promoter methylation is considered to be a promising marker of previous carcinogen exposure and cancer risk.

      • XIAP Associated Factor 1 (XAF1) Represses Expression of X-linked Inhibitor of Apoptosis Protein (XIAP) and Regulates Invasion, Cell Cycle, Apoptosis, and Cisplatin Sensitivity of Ovarian Carcinoma Cells

Zhao, Wen-Jing,Deng, Bo-Ya,Wang, Xue-Mei,Miao, Yuan,Wang, Jian-Nan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.6

Background: X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein (XIAP) associated factor 1 (XAF1) exhibits aberrantly low or absent expression in various human malignancies, closely associated with anti-apoptosis and overgrowth of cancer cells. However, limited attention has been directed towards the contribution of XAF1 to invasion, apoptosis, and cisplatin (DDP)-resistance of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) cells. This study aimed to evaluate the potential effects of XAF1 on invasion, cell cycle, apoptosis, and cisplatin-resistance by overexpressing XAF1 in SKOV-3 and SKOV-3/DDP cells. Methods and Results: The pEGFP-C1-XAF1 plasmid was transfected into SKOV-3 and SKOV-3/DDP cells, and the expression of XAF1 at both mRNA and protein levels was analyzed by reverse transcription-PCR and Western blotting. Overexpression of XAF1 suppressed XIAP expression in both SKOV-3 and SKOV-3/DDP cells. Transwell invasion assays demonstrated that XAF1 exerted a strong anti-invasive effect in XAF1-overexpressing cells. Moreover, flow cytometry analysis revealed that XAF1 overexpression arrested the cell cycle at G0/G1 phase, and cell apoptosis analysis showed that overexpression of XAF1 enhanced apoptosis of SKOV-3 and SKOV-3/DDP cells apparently by activating caspase-9 and caspase-3. Furthermore, MTT assay confirmed a dose-dependent inhibitory effect of cisplatin in the tested tumor cells, and overexpression of XAF1 increased the sensitivity of SKOV-3 and SKOV-3/DDP cells to cisplatin-mediated antiproliferative effects. Conclusions: In summary, our data indicated that overexpression of XAF1 could suppress XIAP expression, inhibit invasion, arrest cell cycle, promote apoptosis, and confer cisplatin-sensitivity in SKOV-3 and SKOV-3/DDP cells. Therefore, XAF1 may be further assessed as a potential target for the treatment of both cisplatin-resistant and non-resistant EOCs.

Numerical analysis of a dual-wave band guided-mode resonance filter with embedded bilayer asymmetric metallic gratings

        Ma Wen-Zhuang,Liu Jing,Yu Gao-Xiang,Chen Wei,Chen Yu-Shan,Deng Xu-Chu 한국물리학회 2021 Current Applied Physics Vol.27 No.-

In this paper, a novel guided-mode resonances (GMRs) based embedded dual-wavelength filter, which had the bilayer gratings located at the two sides of dielectric substrate and arranged at asymmetric position, was investigated and studied theoretically. As compared to symmetric structures that usually provided single wavelength of transmission resonance, as one normal incidence was used for transverse magnetic polarized light, the designed asymmetric structure could generate two remarkable narrow band wavelengths of transmission resonance. The parameters to affect the resonance wavelengths and the transmission resonance Q value (Q = λ/Δλ) of two bands were the distance between the two metallic gratings, the relatively lateral positions of the upper and lower gratings, the number of structure period, the thicknesses of metallic gratings, and the thickness of dielectric film. By optimizing the designed parameters, a GMR device with two resonance wavelengths located at 1239 and 1302 nm showed relative optimal performance because they had high transmission depth (99.9% and 90%) and ultra-narrow transmission bandwidth (2.8 and 1.8 nm) at the two resonance wavelengths. The presented structure can offer a potential route towards dual-band narrow-band filters and refractive index sensors in the near infrared.

Hsa-miRNA-143-3p Reverses Multidrug Resistance of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer by Inhibiting the Expression of Its Target Protein Cytokine-Induced Apoptosis Inhibitor 1 In Vivo

Yu Wei Deng,Wen Jing Hao,Yi Wen Li,Yi Xin Li,Bo Chen Zhao,Dan Lu 한국유방암학회 2018 Journal of breast cancer Vol.21 No.3

Purpose: Multidrug resistance (MDR) remains a major obstacle in the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) with conventional chemotherapeutic agents. A previous study demonstrated that hsa-miRNA-143-3p plays a vital role in drug resistance of TNBC. Downregulation of hsa-miRNA-143-3p upregulated the expression of its target protein cytokine-induced apoptosis inhibitor 1 (CIAPIN1) in order to activate MDR, while upregulation of hsa-miRNA-143-3p effectively enhances the sensitivity of drug-resistant TNBC cells to chemotherapeutics. The present study aimed to further verify these findings in vivo. Methods: We established a hypodermic tumor nude mice model using paclitaxel- resistant TNBC cells. We expressed ectopic hsa-miRNA- 143-3p under the control of a breast cancer-specific human mammaglobin promoter that guided the efficient expression of exogenous hsa-miRNA-143-3p only in breast cancer cells. Thereafter, we overexpressed hsa-miRNA-143-3p in xenografts using a recombinant virus system and quantified the expression of hsa-miRNA-143-3p, CIAPIN1 protein, and proteins encoded by related functional genes by western blot. Results: We successfully completed the prospective exploration of the intravenous virus injection pattern from extensive expression to targeted expression. The overexpression of hsa-miRNA-143-3p significantly alleviated chemoresistance of TNBC by inhibiting viability. In addition, we observed that the expression of CIAPIN1 as a hsa-miRNA-143-3p target protein was remarkably decreased. Conclusion: We partly illustrated the mechanism underlying the hsa-miRNA-143-3p/CIAPIN1 drug resistance pathway. HsamiRNA- 143-3p as a tumor suppressive microRNA may be a novel target to effectively reverse MDR of TNBC in vivo.
