노걸대 3종 판본 내 중국어 명사 접미사의 형태론적 생산성에 대한 통시적 연구

        ( Maeng¸ Junghwan ) 한국중국언어학회 2021 중국언어연구 Vol.- No.95

This study focuses on the historical change in the productivity of Chinese nominal suffixes based on three versions of Laoqida (老乞大) published in the Yuan, Ming and Qing periods respectively. Because Laoqida transcribes spoken Chinese language at the time and also reflects language change over time spanning from the Yuan to Qing period, it serves as a corpus database that allows us to examine the premodern spoken Chinese language. Using Laoqida as a corpus database, this study used hapax-based analysis to examine morphological productivity of the nominal suffixes (-zi, -er, -men) under investigation based on the number of novel expressions created by each suffix. The findings of the study show that -er remains as the most productive suffix throughout the Yuan-Qing periods whereas the productivity of -zi and -men continues to decline over the same periods. The results of the study suggest that the morphological productivity and the lexicalization of derived words are closely associated with each other. Furthermore, the study provides evidence that lexicon and morphology should be considered as two independent domains.

CAD/CAM-assisted total joint replacement for correction of facial asymmetry caused by large osteoma of mandibular condyle

        Ji Youn Maeng(Ji Youn Maeng),Jin-Young Choi(Jin-Young Choi) 대한미용의학회 2023 대한미용의학회지 Vol.7 No.1

Osteoma of mandibular condyle is uncommon benign tumor that grows slowly. Growth of condylar osteoma can cause functional and morphological problems such as facial asymmetry and malocclusion. Surgical removal and concurrent temporomandibular condyle replacement is a strategy that can resolve functional and aesthetic problems associated with large osteoma of mandibular condyle. Total joint replacement (TJR) with computer-associated surgical simulation (CASS) and computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology can effectively and accurately rehabilitate debilitated condyle. A 52-year-old female visited department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Seoul National University Dental Hospital with a chief complaint of facial asymmetry and discomfort of left temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Radiographic and CT images showed a large bony mass at left TMJ surrounding left condylar head. Clinical examination revealed mandibular shift to right side, causing malocclusion and facial asymmetry. TJR of left TMJ with customized alloplastic condyle prosthesis and Biomet fossa was planned for the patient. Condyle was designed and fabricated using CAD/CAM. Surgical guides and occlusal splint fabricated with CAD/CAM technology was well. After 2 years, patient still showed occlusal stability with restored facial symmetry. No complications or recurrence were observed. TJR with customized alloplastic condyle and stock fossa can be an effective treatment strategy for large symptomatic condylar osteoma in restoration of normal function and aesthetics.

      • SnO2 Nanoslab as NO2 Sensor: Identification of the NO2 Sensing Mechanism on a SnO2 Surface

        Maeng, Sunglyul,Kim, Sang-Woo,Lee, Deuk-Hee,Moon, Seung-Eon,Kim, Ki-Chul,Maiti, Amitesh American Chemical Society 2014 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.6 No.1

<P>Among the various metal oxides, SnO2 has been most widely exploited as a semiconductor gas sensor for its excellent functionalities. Models illustrating the sensing mechanism of SnO2 have been proposed and tested to explain experimentally derived “power laws”. The models, however, are often based on somewhat simplistic assumptions; for instance, the net charge transfer from an adsorbate to a sensor surface site is assumed to occur only by integer values independent of the crystallographic planes. In this work, we use layer-shaped SnO2 crystallites with one nanodimension (1ND-crystallites) as NO2 gas sensing elements under flat band conditions, and derive appropriate “power laws” by combining the dynamics of gas molecules on the sensor surface with a depletion theory of semiconductor. Our experimentally measured sensor response as a function of NO2 concentration when compared with the theoretically derived power law indicates that sensing occurs primarily through the chemisorption of single NO2 molecules at oxygen vacancy sites on the sensor surface.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/aamick/2014/aamick.2014.6.issue-1/am404397f/production/images/medium/am-2013-04397f_0007.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/am404397f'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

First Record of Epinephelus areolatus (Perciformes: Serranidae) from Korea

Maeng Jin Kim,Choon Bok Song 한국수산과학회 2010 Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Vol.13 No.4

One specimen of Epinephelus areolatus, belonging to the subfamily Epinephelinae of the family Serranidae, was collected by a hook from commercial longline fisheries in the coastal waters of Jeju Island, Korea. This species is mostly similar to E. chlorostigma, but the former is distinguished from the latter by having larger brown spots and a white posterior margin on the caudal fin. We propose a new Korean name "Dae-moon-ba-ri" for E. areolatus.

The Use of Listening Strategies among Korean Elementary Students

Maeng, Un-Kyoung The English Teachers Association in Korea 2006 영어어문교육 Vol.12 No.3

Though a large amount of research concerning listening strategies has been conducted, the strategic behaviors of younger students in this area have received less attention. This study is a follow up study of an earlier case study by the author (2006). The purpose of this study is to verify what listening strategies Korean elementary learners use in a general L2 listening situation. 213 elementary students participated in this study, and a listening strategy questionnaire was used. ANOVA, MANOVA, Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis were used to interpret the data. The results of this study reveal that younger participants used all four types of listening strategies, cognitive, compensation, metacognitive and affective, fairly often; however, the results also show that they differ in how frequently they use each strategy according to their listening proficiency. Overall, highly proficient learners use more strategies compared to less proficient learners. High proficiency learners use compensation strategies most and cognitive strategies least. Low proficient learners use affective strategies most and compensation strategies least. Moreover, the results showed no significant grade- or gender-related strategic behaviors, and also showed that L2 listening proficiency can be a significant predictor of strategic behavior of young learners. 12% of the variance in L2 strategic behaviors was attributable to L2 listening proficiency.
