Optic foramen location on computed tomography
Vuong Duc Nguyen,Minh Tran Quang Le,Chuong Dinh Nguyen,Tho Thi Kieu Nguyen Korean Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association 2023 Archives of Craniofacial Surgery Vol.24 No.4
Background: This study aimed to identify the location of the optic foramen in relation to the anterior sphenoid sinus wall, which is essential information for surgeons in planning and performing endoscopic transnasal surgery. Methods: Computed tomography scans of 200 orbits from 100 adult patients with no abnormalities were examined. The results included the location of the optic foramen in relation to the anterior sphenoid sinus wall and the distance between them, as well as the distance from the optic foramen and the anterior sphenoid sinus wall to the carotid prominence in the posterior sphenoid sinus. Results: The optic foramen was anterior to the anterior sphenoid sinus wall in 48.5% of orbits, and posterior in the remaining 51.5%. The mean distance from the optic foramen to the anterior sphenoid sinus wall was 3.82±1.25 mm. The mean distances from the optic foramen and the anterior sphenoid sinus wall to the carotid prominence were 7.67±1.73 and 7.95±2.53 mm, respectively. Conclusion: The optic foramen was anterior to the anterior wall of the sphenoid sinus in approximately half of the orbits examined in this study, and posterior in the remaining half. The mean distance from the optic foramen to the anterior sphenoid sinus wall of the sphenoid sinus was 3.82±1.25 mm.

WO3 nanonanoplates are synthesized on glass substrates, followed by atomic layer deposition of Pt thin films as the terminal electrode to efficiently collect the photo-carriers generated from the ZnO/CdS absorption layers. Optimization of the fabrication process for the 3D hierarchical structure is performed, and the morphology and its effect on the photoelectrochemical performance of the electrodes are carefully studied using scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and measurements of the photocurrent density and photo-conversion efficiencies. The enhanced PEC performance is elucidated by the 3D hierarchical geometry of the electrode. We propose an overall procedure for measuring and unfolding fast neutron spectra using a trans-stilbene scintillation detector. Detector characterization was described, including the information on energy calibration, detector resolution, and nonproportionality response. The digital charge comparison method was used for the investigation of neutron-gamma Pulse Shape Discrimination (PSD). A pair of values of 600 ns pulse width and 24 ns delay time was found as the optimized conditions for PSD. A fitting technique was introduced to increase the trans-stilbene Proton Response Function (PRF) by 28% based on comparison of the simulated and experimental electron-equivalent distributions by the Cf-252 source. The detector response matrix was constructed by Monte-Carlo simulation and the spectrum unfolding was implemented using the iterative Bayesian method. The unfolding of simulated and measured spectra of Cf-252 and AmBe neutron sources indicates reliable, stable and no-bias results. The unfolding technique was also validated by the measured cosmic-ray induced neutron flux. Our approach is promising for fast neutron detection and spectroscopy.
Capacity Maximization for an RF Energy-harvesting Cooperative Cognitive Radio Network
Khac-Khiem Nguyen,Duc-Phuc Vuong,Le Danh Khanh 대한전자공학회 2018 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.7 No.5
This work considers a cooperative cognitive radio network including a primary system with a primary transmitter-receiver pair (PT-PR) and a secondary system with a secondary transmitter-receiver pair (ST-SR). In order to access the licensed band allocated to primary users, the ST plays the role of a decode-and-forward relay in order to forward primary signals to the PR. In particular, after receiving the primary signals, the ST first uses a power-splitting energyharvesting method to harvest energy and decode the primary signals. Then, the ST superimposes its information on the decoded primary signals, and use the harvested power to transmit the superimposed signal to the PR and the SR. We here devote our efforts to formulating and solving an optimization problem aimed at maximizing the capacity obtained by secondary users while also guaranteeing quality of service for the primary users. Simulation results clearly show that our solution significantly improves the achievable capacity of secondary users.

Traditionally, students from the Southern world tend to cross their national borders to study abroad. However, in recent times, we have observed a trend in which more and more students, both full-time and short-term, select Southern countries as destinations for overseas education. This paper contributes to the sparse literature on the above phenomenon, examining the case of Vietnam. We surveyed 50 universities and colleges about their international student profiles (including statistics and nationalities) and their strategies for attracting international students. The findings of this study provide implications for Vietnam's policymakers and university/college leaders and other Southern countries when implementing the internationalization of tertiary education.
