INFRARED OBSERVATIONS OF DUST AROUND HELIUM NOVA V445 PUPPIS

We detected bright mid- to far-infrared emission from the helium nova V445 Puppis in the AKARI all-sky survey data taken in 2006. Assuming an optically thin condition, we decomposed the spectral energy distribution (SED) of V445 Puppis in October 2006 by model fitting and found that the SED can be explained by a combination of cold amorphous carbon (125~K and the mass of $4.5^{+6.6}_{-2.7}\times 10^{-4} ~{\rm M}_{\odot}$) and warm amorphous carbon (250~K and the mass of $1.8^{+1.0}_{-0.5}\times 10^{-5} ~{\rm M}_{\odot}$). Assuming that the former is pre-existing dust formed in the past nova outbursts and the latter is newly formed dust in December 2000's nova wind, this result suggests that the amount of dust formed around V445 Puppis in a single outburst is larger than $10^{-5} ~{\rm M}_{\odot}$, which is larger than those in any other classical novae ever reported.

Background/Aims: The safety and effectiveness of adalimumab was demonstrated in a phase 3 trial in Japanese patients with intestinal Behçet’s disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term safety and effectiveness of adalimumab in Japanese patients with intestinal Behçet’s disease. Methods: This prospective, all-case, post-marketing study was conducted at 254 centers in Japanese patients with intestinal Behçet’s disease receiving adalimumab. The primary endpoint was incidence of adverse drug reactions. Effectiveness endpoints included global improvement rating and change in C-reactive protein levels. Results: Of the 473 registered patients, 462 and 383 included in the safety and effectiveness populations were administered adalimumab for a mean of 515.3 and 579.5 days, respectively. Overall, 395 patients (85.5%) received adalimumab at the recommended dose. Adverse drug reactions and serious adverse drug reactions were reported in 120 (25.97%) and 51 (11.04%) patients, respectively. The incidence of adverse drug reactions was significantly higher in patients with comorbidities (P<0.0001), patients taking concomitant oral corticosteroids (P<0.0001), and those not self-administering adalimumab (P=0.0257). At study end, global improvement rating was “effective” (n=156, 40.7%) or “markedly effective” (n=168, 43.9%) in 324 patients (overall effective, 84.6%). Mean C-reactive protein levels (mg/dL) decreased from 1.96 at baseline (n=324) to 0.58 at week 24 (n=208) and 0.25 at week 156 (n=37). Conclusions: This large real-world study confirmed the long-term safety and effectiveness of adalimumab in patients with intestinal Behçet’s disease. No new safety concerns were identified. SPECTRAL EVOLUTION OF NOVAE IN THE NEAR-INFRARED BASED ON AKARI OBSERVATIONS

We have carried out the near-infrared spectroscopic observations of recent classical novae (e.g., V2468Cyg, V1280Sco) within a few years from the outburst with AKARI as a part of AKARI Open Time Observing Program for Phase 3-II "Spectral Evolution of Novae in the Near-Infrared based on AKARI Observations (Proposal ID: SENNA)". The homogeneous datasets of near-infrared spectra from 2.5 $\mu$m to 5 $\mu$m with AKARI/IRC collected in this program are useful to infer the physical conditions of the shell formed by the ejected materials, to examine the chemical properties of the ejecta gas, and to examine the properties of dust formed in the nova ejecta.
A Novel Spiral-Type Motion Estimation Architecture for H.264/AVC

New features of motion compensation, such as variable block size and multiple reference frames are introduced in H.264/AVC. However, these new features induce significant implementation complexity increases. In this paper, an efficient architecture for spiral-type motion estimation is proposed. First, we propose a hardware-friendly spiral search order. Then, an efficient processing element (PE) architecture for ME is proposed to achieve the proposed search order. The improved PE enables one-pixel-move of the reference pixel data to top, bottom, right, and left by four ports for input and output. Moreover, the parallel calculation architecture to calculate all block size with the SAD of 4x4 is introduced in the proposed architecture. As the result of hardware implementation, the hardware cost is about 145k gates. Maximum clock frequency is 134 MHz in the case of FPGA (Xilinx Vertex5) implementation.

Improvement of Motion Estimation with Modified Search Center and Search Range for H.264/SVC

In this paper, we propose a novel optimized motion estimation algorithm with a modified search center for spatial scalability when using inter-layer motion prediction of H.264/SVC. Firstly, up-sampled motion vector of base layer is evaluated to find the relation with the enhancement layer. Based on the results, in enhancement layer encoding we use the motion vector of the base layer to estimate the optimal search center for enhancement layer. Then, based on the modified search center we adaptively control the search range to reduce the redundant motion estimation. The proposed algorithm is evaluated using reference software JSVM. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can achieve over 80% computation complexity reduction of total motion estimation.
