Determinants Influencing Tax Compliance: The Case of Vietnam

NGUYEN, Thi Thuy Du'o'ng,PHAM, Thi My Linh,LE, Thanh Tam,TRUONG, Thi Hoai Linh,TRAN, Manh Dung Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.2

The purpose of this paper is to ascertain the key factors affecting tax compliance among Vietnamese firms in Vietnam. We employ both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Qualitative research has been carried out through focus group discussions with ten chief accountants and tax officers. Quantitative research has been conducted through interviews with 200 firms (chief accountants or financial directors) in Vietnam. Analysis of the model includes the following stages: (i) Cronbach's test for reliability of the scale, (ii) exploratory factor analysis (EFA), (iii) confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and (iv) structural equation model (SEM). The results of the research show that voluntary tax compliance is directly affected by the three factors of audit probability, corporate reputation and business ownership. The probability of audit and severity of sanctions have the strongest impact on tax compliance. Therefore, the tax authorities need to strengthen the inspection of tax declarations, tax payments and tax refunds of firms. The paper confirms that enforced tax compliance is directly affected by the three factors of audit probability, sanction severity and social norms. Voluntary compliance and compulsory compliance have an effect on tax compliance, though voluntary compliance has a more powerful impact.

The role of rapid tissue expansion in separating xipho-omphalopagus conjoined twins in Vietnam

Tran, Thiet Son,Pham, Thi Viet Dung,Ta, Thi Hong Thuy,Vu, Duy Kien,Nguyen, Thanh Liem Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surge 2021 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.48 No.4

Conjoined twins are rare, and each set of conjoined twins has a unique conjoined anatomy. It is necessary to perform separation to increase the chance of patient survival. Tissue expansion is an advanced technique for providing sufficient soft tissue and skin for wound closure. We report the successful application of rapid tissue expansion in 10-month-old xipho-omphalopagus conjoined twins in Vietnam. A tissue expander was placed on the anterior body between the sternum and umbilicus with a baseline of 70 mL sterile saline (0.9% NaCl). The first injection into the tissue expander began on the 6th day after expander insertion, and injections continued every 2 days with approximately 30-70 mL per injection according to the expansion of the skin. The expander reached 335 mL after six injections and within 10 days. In order to prepare for surgical separation, expansion was completed on the 15th day after insertion. The expanded skin area was estimated to be 180 cm2, which was sufficient to cover both patients' skin deficiencies. The twins presented for surgical separation 6 days following the completion of tissue expansion. Both babies were discharged in good health 1 month after separation.

Determinants Influencing Entrepreneurial Intention among Undergraduates in Universities of Vietnam

BUI, Thi Hong Viet,NGUYEN, Thi Le Thuy,TRAN, Manh Dung,NGUYEN, Thi Anh Thu Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.7

The paper aims to identify the determinants that influence entrepreneurial intention among National Economics University graduates. For the sample size, we conducted a questionnaire survey of 250 full-time third-year undergraduates at the National Economics University, with convenience sampling technique. Of those 250 undergraduates, 150 were Business Administration students and 100 Economy Management students. After eliminating invalid responses due to lack of information or low quality information, 215 responses were used (93.07% of respondents) for data analysis. The results show that the factor "Perceived desirability" has the strongest impact on the intention to start a business. It is followed by the factor "Perceived feasibility" in which the "ability to search and plan for start-up" has a stronger influence on undergraduates' entrepreneurial intention than the "leadership and ability to overcome adversity". The hypothesis of a positive relationship between undergraduates' propensity to act and their intention to start a business is also supported in this study. Based on the results, we suggest some recommendations for the university and State management agencies to nurture and develop entrepreneurial intention of undergraduates, forming the young generation of potential entrepreneurs to contribute to the development of emerging countries such as Vietnam, the case study.

Determinants Influencing the Conversion of Financial Statements: The Case of Multinational Firms in Vietnam

Manh Dung TRAN,Thi Tuyet Mai NGO,To Uyen PHAN,Duc Tai DO,Thi Thuy Hang PHAM 한국유통과학회 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.3

The research aims to investigate the impact levels of determinants on the conversion of financial statements from Vietnamese accounting standards (VAS) to International financial reporting standards (IFRS) in the multinational firms in Vietnam. The method of data collection was done through the survey and subjects are accountants in Multinational Firms doing business in Hanoi and ten neighboring provinces. After checking the information on the votes, there are 170 questionnaires with full information for data entry and analysis. We use Cronbach‟s Alpha, EFA analysis and run regression model to investigate the impact levels of each independent variable on dependent variable of the conversion of VAS financial statements to IFRS. The results show that five determinants including Economic, Politics, Law, Culture, and Conditions for implementation have positive relationships with the conversion of VAS financial statements to IFRS. In particular, Economic determinant is the most strongest. Based on the findings, some recommendations are given for improving the conversion of VAS financial statements to IFRS of multinational firms doing business in the context of Vietnam. The results are considered a useful reference for firms when making financial statements to transparently change the financial statement information and improve the quality of financial statement information.

The Relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility and Customer Purchase Intention: Empirical Evidence from Vietnam

Thang Quang TRAN,Ninh Truong Thi THUY,Dung Viet PHAM 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.5

Corporate social responsibility is becoming increasingly important to organizations, and it has received a lot of attention from the general public and marketing academics. This study aimed to look at the many aspects of corporate social responsibility and see how brand reputation and brand love play a role in the relationship between corporate social responsibility and customer purchase intent. To reach the end, this research applied the theory of social exchange and corporate social responsibility to explain the relationship between the variables. The Partial Least Squares was applied to analyze data collected from survey questionnaires in the Hanoi market (Vietnam) to test the proposed hypothesis. The study resulted in 239 valid survey questionnaires which can be used to test hypotheses by applying SmarPLS software. The results indicated that there are three key elements of corporate social responsibility from customers’ perspectives: responsibility to customers, responsibility to the environment, and responsibility to the community. Interestingly, brand reputation and brand love contribute as mediating roles in the correlation between corporate social responsibility and customer purchase intention. Finally, the authors discussed the findings and the implications of this research in both theoretical and practical aspects, as well as the limitations that future research can focus on.

Study on the Characteristics of X-ray Spectra in Imaging Diagnosis Using Monte Carlo Simulations

Khanh Ai Tran,Loan Thi Hong Truong,Nhon Van Mai,Phuong Nguyen Dang,Dung Thi Thuy Vo 한국물리학회 2016 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.69 No.7

X-rays are widely used in diagnostic imaging such as radiography and computed tomography. An understanding of the X-ray spectrum is essential for estimating the dose absorbed by the patient and for improving image quality. In this research, X-ray emission spectra were investigated by using two different approaches: a Monte Carlo method using the MCNP5 code and a semi-empirical calculation with SpekCalc software. The results were compared with each other to validate the Monte Carlo simulation of the X-ray spectra, so that the simulation model can be applied to estimating the dose rate distribution in X-ray imaging. The obtained results show good agreement between the two approaches, but some divergence is still observed in the characteristic X-ray peaks. In addition, the influence of X-ray tube parameters such as the peak voltage, filter, anode angle and target material on of the beam quality was investigated.

Perception of Organizational Support to Lecturers' Research Motivation: The Case of Vietnam

NGUYEN, Thanh Do,BUI, Thi Hong Viet,NGUYEN, Thi Le Thuy,TRAN, Manh Dung,TRAN, Thi Kim Nhung Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.2

The aim of this study is to test the direct relationship and the indirect relationship of the perceived organizational support to lecturers' research motivation through "expectation" factor (belief in ability). The subject of the study is lecturers who are teaching and researching in the fields of economic, management and business administration at universities in Vietnam. The questionnaires were directly sent to lecturers at scientific conferences, sent out via e-mail and Facebook, the questionnaires were designed on google docs and directly sent to the lecturers. The detailed sample includes 475 respondents. The results of a quantitative analysis with a research sample of 475 lecturers in economics universities in Vietnam show that it is impossible to separate between lecturers' research ability and motivation. Lecturers with increased expectation (in terms of capability) also have increased research motivation, and vice versa. At the same time, the research also affirms the role of perceived organizational support, which not only has a direct positive impact on research motivation, but also increases expectation, thus, indirectly influence research motivation. This suggests that the solution for managers who want to improve research motivation by having measures to increase the expectation for the lecturers through various forms of organizational support.

Vu Van Khien,Duong Minh Thang,Tran Manh Hai,Nguyen Quang Duat,Pham Hong Khanh,Dang Thuy Ha,Tran Thanh Binh,Ho Dang Quy Dung,Tran Thi Huyen Trang,Yoshio Yamaoka 거트앤리버 소화기연관학회협의회 2019 Gut and Liver Vol.13 No.5

Antibiotic resistance is the most important factor leading to the failure of eradication regimens. This review focuses on the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori primary and secondary resistance to clarithromycin, metronidazole, amoxicillin, levofloxacin, tetracycline, and multidrug in Vietnam. We searched the PubMed, EMBASE, Vietnamese National Knowledge Infrastructure, and Vietnamese Biomedical databases from January 2000 to December 2016. The search terms included the following: H. pylori infection, antibiotic (including clarithromycin, metronidazole, amoxicillin, levofloxacin, tetracycline, and multidrug) resistance in Vietnam. The data were summarized in an extraction table and analyzed manually. Finally, Excel 2007 software was used to create charts. Ten studies (three studies in English and seven in Vietnamese) were included in this review. A total of 308, 412, 523, 408, 399, and 268 H. pylori strains were included in this review to evaluate the prevalence of H. pylori primary resistance to amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, levofloxacin, tetracycline, and multidrug resistance, respectively. Overall, the primary resistance rates of amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, levofloxacin, tetracycline, and multidrug resistance were 15.0%, 34.1%, 69.4%, 27.9%, 17.9% and 48.8%, respectively. Secondary resistance rates of amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, levofloxacin, tetracycline, and multidrug resistance were 9.5%, 74.9%, 61.5%, 45.7%, 23.5% and 62.3%, respectively. In Vietnam, primary and secondary resistance to H. pylori is increasing over time and affects the effectiveness of H. pylori eradication.
