        Testosterone Stimulates Duox1 Activity through GPRC6A in Skin Keratinocytes

        <P>Testosterone is an endocrine hormone with functions in reproductive organs, anabolic events, and skin homeostasis. We report here that GPRC6A serves as a sensor and mediator of the rapid action of testosterone in epidermal keratinocytes. The silencing of GPRC6A inhibited testosterone-induced intracellular calcium ([Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>]<I><SUB>i</SUB></I>) mobilization and H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> generation. These results indicated that a testosterone-GPRC6A complex is required for activation of G<SUB>q</SUB> protein, IP<SUB>3</SUB> generation, and [Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>]<I><SUB>i</SUB></I> mobilization, leading to Duox1 activation. H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> generation by testosterone stimulated the apoptosis of keratinocytes through the activation of caspase-3. The application of testosterone into three-dimensional skin equivalents increased the apoptosis of keratinocytes between the granular and stratified corneum layers. These results support an understanding of the molecular mechanism of testosterone-dependent apoptosis in which testosterone stimulates H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> generation through the activation of Duox1.</P>

        Hydrolysis of Ginseng Saponins and Quantifications of Saponins, Prosapogenins and Sapogenins in Crude Drug Extracts for Quality Control

        Ginseng saponins have been known as main active principles and are quantified as the index components of ginseng and its products for quality control. However ginseng saponins are easily hydrolyzed in acidic solutions of crude drug preparations. Due to the hydrolysis of saponins in acidic condition, it is generally difficult to determine ginseng saponins in crude drug preparations. Ginseng saponins, prosapogenins and sapogenins of crude drug extracts were quantified by HPLC. Ginseng saponins were quantified by HPLC on Lichrosorb-NH₂ column with acetonitrile/water/1-butanol(80:20:10, v/v). Ginseng prosapogenin-Rg₃ and -Rg₂ were extracted with ethyl acetate from 50% acetic acid hydrolyzates of saponin fractions and quantified by HPLC on Lichrosorb-NH₂ column with acetonitrile/water(90:10, v/v). Ginseng sapogenins, panaxadiol and panaxatriol, were extracted with diethyl ether from 7%-sulfuric acid hydrolyzates of saponin fractions and quantified by HPLC on μ-Bondapak C18 column with acetonitrile/methanol/chloroform(83:10:7, v/v). These methods of analyses of sapogenins and prosapogenins were more useful for quality control than those of ginseng saponins in some of crude drug preparations.

        Design Considerations for a Distributed Generation System Using a Voltage-Controlled Voltage Source Inverter

        Voltage-controlled voltage source inverter (VCVSI) based distributed generation systems (DGS) using renewable energy sources (RES) is becoming increasingly popular as grid support systems in both remote isolated grids as well as end of rural distribution lines. In VCVSI based DGS for load voltage stabilization, the power angle between the VCVSI output voltage and the grid is an important design parameter because it affects not only the power flow and the power factor of the grid but also the capacity of the grid, the sizing of the decoupling inductor and the VCVSI. In this paper, the steady state modeling and analysis in terms of power flow and power demand of the each component in the system at the different values of maximum power angle is presented. System design considerations are examined for various load and grid conditions. Experimental results conducted on a I KVA VCVSI based DGS prove the analysis and simulation results.

        Effect of Dehydration and Discoloration Time of Ethanol, Temperature, and Dipping Time of a Preservation Solution for Dyeing on Quality of Preserved Flowers of Rose ‘ Pink Aurora ’

        본 연구는 국내에서 육종한 품종인 ‘Pink Aurora’ 장미를 보존화로 가공하는 기술의 개발에 관한 것으로 탈수와 탈색 처리를 위한 에탄올의 침지시간과 염색을 위한 보존용액의 온도와 침지시간를 구명하고자 수행하였다. 탈수는 먼셀 H값에서 붉은 색이 완전히 빠지고 시간이 길어질수록 황색이 짙어짐을 고려해 볼 때 12시간이 가장 효과적이었다. 보존용액 처리에 서는 채도값을 나타내는 C의 차이는 크지 않았지만 온도가 높고 처리시간이 길어질수록 색의 맑기가 높아졌다. 낮은 온도 에서 침지시간이 길어짐에 따라 화형의 감소율이 낮았다. 24 시간 건조 후 무게는 모든 온도 처리에서 침지시간이 길어질 수록 53~47% 감소하였고, 건조 48시간의 25℃에서 6시간 침 지에서 73%, 24시간 침지에서 68%의 감소율을 나타내 침지시간이 길어질수록 감소율이 낮았다. 따라서 에탄올로 12시간동 안 탈수하여 염색 보존액을 25℃에서 24시간동안 처리하는 것이 가장 효과적이라고 생각된다. The objective of this study was to examine the proper temperature and time for treatment when using ethanol for dehydration and discoloration of Rosa hybrida ‘Pink Aurora’ bred in Korea and also for treatment of a preservation solution for dyeing to make preserved flowers of this species. For dehydration and decolorization, dipping was carried out at 25 ± 2°C for 3, 6, 12, 18, or 24 hours, and dyeing was treated at 25, 30, or 35 ° C for 6, 12, 18, or 24 hours. The most effective duration of dehydration was 12 hours, considering that the red color decolored perfectly in the H value of the Munsell value, and the yellow color grew richer as the treatment time increased. For the treatment of the preservation solution, a “C” value (indicating chroma) was higher at 35℃ in 48 hours. Flower shrinking percentage was lower at lower temperatures and with longer times of immersion. The weight was reduced by 53%–47% after longer times of immersion at all temperatures (24-hour dehydration), whereas it was reduced by 73% after 6 hours of immersion and by 68% after 24 hours of immersion at 25°C (48-hour dehydration). In conclusion, longer immersion time resulted in lesser reduction of flower weight. In consideration of the above results, the most effective condition was dehydration for 12 hours and dyeing at 25°C for 24 hours.

        The Influence of Arthroscopic Remplissage for Engaging Hill-Sachs Lesions Combined with Bankart Repair on Redislocation and Shoulder Function Compared with Bankart Repair Alone

        Background: Recurrence of glenohumeral dislocation after arthroscopic Bankart repair can be associated with a large osseous defect in the posterosuperior part of the humeral head. Our hypothesis is that remplissage is more effective to prevent recurrence of glenohumeral instability without a severe motion deficit. Methods: Engaging Hill-Sachs lesions were observed in 48 of 737 patients (6.5%). Twenty-four patients underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair combined with remplissage (group I) and the other 24 patients underwent arthroscopic Bankart repair alone (group II). Clinical outcomes were prospectively evaluated by assessing the range of motion. Complications, recurrence rates, and functional results were assessed utilizing the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Rowe score, and the Korean Shoulder Score for Instability (KSSI) score. Capsulotenodesis healing after remplissage was evaluated with magnetic resonance imaging. Results: The average ASES, Rowe, and KSSI scores were statistically significantly higher in group I than group II. The frequency of recurrence was statistically significantly higher in group II. The average loss in external rotation measured with the arm positioned at the side of the trunk was greater in group II and that in abduction was also higher in group II. Conclusions: Compared to single arthroscopic Bankart repair, the remplissage procedure combined with arthroscopic Bankart repair was more effective to prevent the recurrence of anterior shoulder instability without significant impact on shoulder mobility in patients who had huge Hill-Sachs lesions.

        화물차사고 비율에 따른 고속도로 교통사고 분석모형에 대한 연구

        고속도로에서 화물차는 승용차에 비해 도로의 많은 부분을 점유한다. 이로 인해 도로의 용량은 상대적으로 감소하며, 국소적으로 주변 운전자에게 위협적인 요소로 작용한다. 화물차 사고는 일반적인 사고와 달리 사고 특성이 다르므로 분석 방법 또한 일반적인 사고와 다르게 적용해야 한다. 사고 분석 방법 중 사고예측모형은 특정 구간에 대한 사고건수를 예측하며 교통계획을 수립할 때 사고 예방을 위한 대책 수립과 도로의 위험성을 진단할 때 활용된다. 이에 본 연구는 고속도로의 화물차 간 사고 비율을 적용하여 사고예측모형에 투입될 수 있는 보정계수를 산출하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구를 위해 고속도로를 대상으로 사고 자료를 수집하였으며 2014~2016년까지 3개 년도의 교통량 및 사고 자료를 활용하였다. 연간 사고건수를 토대로 사고예측모형을 개발하였으며, 본 연구를 통해 화물차 간 사고 비율에 따른 사고예측모형을 비교함으로써 실질적인 고속도로 사고예측모형을 확인하고 그에 대한 대책을 제시하고자 한다. Trucks take up more portions than cars on highways. Due to this, road use relatively diminish and it serves locally as a threatening factor to nearby drivers. Baggage car accident has distinct characteristics so that it needs the application of different analysis opposed to ordinary accidents. Accident prediction model, one of accident analyses, is used to predict the numbers of accident in certain parts, establish traffic plans as well as accident prevention methods, and diagnose the danger of roads. Thus, this study aims to apply the accident rate of baggage car on highways and calculate the correction factor to be put in the accident prediction models. Accident data based on highway was collected and traffic amounts and accident documents between 2014 and 2016 were utilized. The author developed an accident prediction model based on numbers of annual accidents and set mean annual and daily traffic amounts. This study intends to identify the practical accident prediction model on highway and present an appropriate solution by comparing the prediction model in accords with the accident rate between baggage cars.

        Shoulder arthroscopy is used to treat a range of injuries of the shoulder and has many benefits, but it is also associated with undesirable complications. Even so, as the benefits by far surpass the risk, shoulder arthroscopy remains a common practice in orthopedics today. Here, we describe a previously unreported, potentially fatal complication, pleural effusion, after a shoulder arthroscopy. We removed the pleural effusion by thoracentesis with the patient in a beach-chair position.

        Cracking of S2 Ice by Spherical Indentation

        구형 관입시험에 의한 얼음의 균열을 연구 하였다. -10℃에서 S2 기둥얼음의 시편(152㎜ X 152㎜ X 152㎜)에 stainless 강으로 된 구(지름 25.4㎜)로 하중을 가하였다. 구형 indentor는 얼음 시편의 장축인 기둥방향에 수직으로 하중을 가하였으며 이때 변위율은 0.038㎜/s로 하여 단조증가 하중 시험을 하였다. 하중을 가하기 시작하면 indentor 하부에서 crushing이 발생하고, 하중이 증가함에 따라서 방사선 균열 또는 횡균열이 성장하여 splitting 또는 spallation이 발생 하였다. 단조증가 하중 때와 통일한 indentor를 사용하여 하중 및 비하중율 0.5 KN/s로 맥박하중을 가할 때 이들 방사선 균열 및 횡 균열이 발생 성장하였다. 첫 맥박 하중의 크기는 1KN으로 하고 그 뒤 계속 이어지는 시험은 맥박 하중의 크기를 증가시킨 뒤 행하였으며 균열 길이는 맥박과 맥박 사이에서 계측 하였다. 기타 취성고체에서 관찰 되었던 것과 같이 방사선 균열 및 측면균열의 길이는 impression 반지름과 하나의 지수법칙이 성립함을 보여주었다.
