A planetary gear train is more compact and endures greater amounts of transmission power compared to other gear systems. Although planetary gear systems operate in small volumes, they are capable of very high efficiency due to the compact combination of their gears in the planetary gear system. They also have outstanding efficiency of only 3% for power transmission, tantamount to the power loss that occurs in each of the shift stages. Given these advantages, planetary gear systems are used in the driving systems of, which are widely used in automobile transmissions, machine tools, semiconductor equipment, and in other areas in industrial fields. Current structural equipment requires higher efficiency and greater torque levels. According to these needs, we have designed a complex planetary gear system which creates higher levels of torque. In this paper, an evaluation of strength designs for the proposed planetary gear system was conducted to ensure the stability of the gear. In addition, a durability analysis based on Miner"s rule was performed using RS B 0095 device.
진동삼축시험을 통한 실트질 모래의 액상화 강도에 대한 연구

국내 해안에 퇴적된 실트질 모래와 hydraulic fill한 지반에서 채취한 시료의 액상화 강도 측정을 위해 응력제어 진동삼축압축시험을 수행하였다. 이를 위해 1) 불교란시료와 교란시료의 액상화 강도 산정과 2) 등방 압밀된 시료와 비등방 압밀된 시료의 반복삼축시험결과 비교, 3) 본 시험결과와 국내 다른 시험자료 및 외국의 결과를 비교하였다. 등방 압밀 시료의 액상화 강도는 시료의 상대밀도에 따라 나타내었다. 실트질 함유량이 30%이하의 경우 액상화 강도는 실트질 영향을 거의 받지 않음이 나타났다. 비등방 압밀된 시료의 액상화 강도는 수직응력을 구속응력으로 나눈 유효압밀비에 영향을 받는다. 본 연구의 시험결과 한국 서해안의 실트질 모래의 액상화 강도는 Seed and Pea cock(1971)가 제안한 범위에서 내에 있음을 알 수 있다. Samples of silty sands and hydraulic fill ground were investigated by dynamic triaxial teats in order to evaluate the liquefaction strengths. In the tests, (1) undisturbed and disturbed samples were prepared, (2) dynamic shear strengths were measured under isotropic and anisotropic condition, and (3) the test results were compared with the other results which were tested by domestic and foreign researchers. The liquefaction shear strengths under ismtropic test condition were presented in terms of the relative densities. The amount of silt under 30o hardly influenced on the liquefaction strength. In the test results of anisotropically consolidated samples the liquefaction strength was dependent on the magnitude of the effective consolidation ratio. These teat results show that the liquefaction strength of the silty sand in Korea went coast exists within the boundary of the values suggested by Seed and Peacock(1971).
A Study on Efficiency of Tapered Roller Bearing for an Automatic Transmission

Automotive fuel efficiency regulations and air pollution control are hot issues of recent years in the automotive industry. To solve these regulation problems, many studies are continuing to improve the transmission efficiency of transmissions. Tapered roller bearings are useful to improve the transmission efficiency in the recent automobile parts. The frictional losses in the tapered roller bearings are mainly composed of the rolling friction and the sliding friction, and are dependent upon the load, the lubrication, the rotation speed of bearings, and etc. In this paper, the operating conditions of the transmission are defined and then the power losses of each bearing are calculated. In addition, improvement options are suggested after identifying the design factors influenced much by the improvement effect of power loss under the operating conditions of each bearing. We compare the power losses of the entire transmission system due to bearing improvements by comparing the friction losses between the original design and the improved design. Lastly, it is shown that the calculated power losses are valid by comparing the test values and the theoretical values for the frictional torque characteristics of the original and improved bearings.

An automatic transmission of automobiles enables comfortable driving experience with lower transmission shifting jerks. However, the assembly structure is more complicated and requires additional components with lower efficiency than the manual transmission system. Extensive research has been conducted to improve the overall transmission efficiency by optimizing each component of the automatic transmission assembly. This study focuses on enhancing the friction torque of double angular contact ball bearings used in automatic transmission. The friction torque of the bearing varies with the operating conditions such as the operational load and rotating speed. Since reducing the friction torque of the bearing tends to deteriorate the durability of the bearing, it is necessary to design the bearing having a minimum required friction torque by determining the durability life of an automatic transmission assembly, In this study, the theoretical life and friction torque of conventional and newly-developed bearings are calculated. The difference in the friction torque between the new and existing bearings are also evaluated.
